LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 5 FRONT RUNNER SLIMLINE II ROOF RACK INSTALL

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Installing the Front Runner Slimeline II on the 2020 Land Rover Discovery. Not the way we thought the install would go, but it worked out in the end and looks really good.

    Nice video! I ended up drilling a hole in the center of the caps to pop them out. It is a poor design... Hope to see more vids...

    There is special tools to lift that cap, like those ones to open up door interior. Can't just use the screwdriver. I didn't have right tool, and I could not wait, so drilled a hole in the middle of those caps to pull them out.

    Great Video!! Thank you for posting. I considered getting one of those, but read on the forums that the tabs presented a huge issue, and you certainly demonstrated that! I have the same color 2020 LR5. What wheels are those? are they 20s? Also, how is the wind noise?

    Wheels are 21". Wind noise is noticeable on the highway. Its not "loud" its just a noticeable noise. Also its lead to a slight reduction in MPGs but other than that it is a sloid rack and has met expectations thus far.

    Thanks for this video! Question, do you know the weight capacity of the rack? I was told that the weight capacity is that of the roof rails, which I found was 176 lbs. Is that what you understand as well?

  • @bigriveroverland1577

    @bigriveroverland1577

    According to the website is says 660 lbs. I feel as if this is suggested and obviously rated on the lower end. The rack is very strong and durable, I think it can do much more than 660. Another thing to consider is what vehicle you are mounting to and the rating of that vehicles support system you are mounting to.

    @@bigriveroverland1577 thanks for the info. I couldn’t find that capacity on the site. I also chatted with a front runner rep and they told me it’s based on the roof rail capacity. I also have a Disco 5.

    @@bigriveroverland1577 I think his question may have been to the roof capacity point. As you probably know already, your roof has a maximum load capacity of 80kg. Given the rack weighs 40kg, that doesn’t leave much left. Will it fail if you exceed it? I doubt it, but the handling will presumably get progressively worse, and you’d want to be fairly careful off-roading or driving in a “spirited fashion” with much weight up there. I have an LR4 and the same rack btw.

    To anyone who has installed this rack on the Disco 5: Should I be concerned about about liquid/condensation/etc. getting inside the factory roof rails? As you know, you must remove the caps which exposes the interior of the roof rails. As I already have installed it, I cannot remember if there are rubber seals or anything around each of the mounting hardware within the rails to prevent water from getting in, under the roof. Is there any concern about water or the elements getting into the roof?

    No issues on our end so far. Curious to hear if others have had any issues. I don't think exposing the rails to the elements will allow liquid to enter the roof of the vehicle but I could be wrong.

    Just got my 2018 Disco 5 and thinking on buying this. Did you use any lock tight on the bolts ? How has it held up? Install looks pretty straight forward. How is front runners customer service? Thanks.

    No lock tight used. It has been very sturdy and done great so far. Yes, install is straight forward, worst part was removing the caps on the roof rack. Front runners customer service has been nothing but positive. Very quick to respond and offer assistance when needed. (They sent a wrong part# and corrected it very quickly).

    About 5". Measuring from the top of the original roof rails to the top of the rack. This measurement is at the back of the vehicle. The rake of the vehicle down toward the front, at the front it's about 8" from rails to rack.
