I was recently in Los Angeles about to buy a Discovery 5, I love the car, but have watched a lot of videos saying its reliability is poor, if it wasn't for the engine and transmission, the minor issues I could live with.

I've always thought that 20" rims were better, the ride quality, cost of tyres, but also the weight difference, ally rims are heavier than rubber so therefore represent more unsprung weight and greater mass for the engine and brakes to cope with, I've also heard people with large rims getting through brake discs after only 30k from new, the last factor is I go off-road on a regular basis with my hunting dogs and I use BFG's which give a lovely ride and cushion against rocks, I hate to think what's going to happen with the new Landy that sports 23's, it'll just be an expensive trinket!!

Completely agree that an extended warranty is a good investment but I refused to pay for Land Rover’s extended warranty. Instead opted for a third-party warranty that still allows me to use Land Rover main dealers to carry out any work but I managed to get a 3 year extended warranty for £1.400

Factory wheel size is best unless you want to change differential ratios as well. It's not just a case of slapping 22's on and going they look cool. There's also turning clearance in the wheel arch causing damage if not on level ground.

Fully agree on point #3, wheel size. My 2020 D5 HSE came with dealer specced 22 inch alloys, a £2,200 option. The ride does suffer and only last week it cost me £352 to replace one Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season (285/40 R22 110Y) due to pot hole damage. That would be £1,400 to replace all four corners. Definitely stick with the standard 21 inch wheels.

My warranty on my (3 litre) SDV6 HSE D5 runs out in June and this video has just about convinced me to take out the extended warranty. We haven't had a great deal go wrong with the vehicle since getting it new, but that in itself could be a sign that big bills are ahead! I've had an email from the dealer wondering if I wanted to take it in for a "pre warranty expiry" health check and you know what? I might just do that! Cheers Doc, great videos always. Keep them up!

Had a 3 litre HSE lux 67 model. After three year’s all wheels were badly tarnished and the gearbox reverted to Sport on startling quite frequently ( meant I’m driving off in locked first gear with a cold engine) LR refused any remedial action under warranty. Garage refused to help even though I’ve bought 3 almost new cars from them over 10 years. I now drive a Lexus- everything works!

Hi doc, another great video, am currently looking at warranty with Motoreasy for my d4, deffo agree with the engine choice, re the tyres Iehrn a bought my d4, I invested a complete set of brand new alloys , so I can change them over when required. Then replace the tyres on the original set as and when , I had damage and punctures and had to replace them. Like you I have replaced with the same make. Mind you if I did buy alloys again I would have 255 55 20 as look and stand better than 255 50 20 . Regards mark

I struggle to see how you rate this car so highly bearing in mind the extra costs of warranty, repairs and reliability. The uncertainty of getting from A to B would be a worry to me. I speak as a Defender owner of the last 20 years and virtually no problems. I addition, my wife’s X3 now with 80,000 miles and tyres being the only cost over basic servicing. I think it is amazing, the loyalty shown to Land Rover when the product would appear so unreliable. I’m trying to understand it.

I guess it’s because not all of them go wrong all the time and you weigh the attributes of the car against the chances of a problem. I’ve just bought my second RRSport and like the others, I plan to sell it as soon as I have any problem after the five year warranty has run out. Interestingly though, I never had a problem with the other three!

Own a 2008 Discovery 3 SE V8, with that said I would never get the diesel engine and thank goodness it was never offered in the states the six cylinder engine in my opinion is under powered for the Discovery weight class and believe it or not I get pretty good gas mileage out of my 4.4 V8 when driving in sport mode on the highway. One more thing don't care to much for the Disco 5 rounded out body and why did they do away with the rear hatch double door opening? That is/was the main attraction for me anyway. Cheers 🍻 🇬🇧

I bought my disco 5 hse 17 plate last October like on you other videos mine starting cutting out went back, fuel filter ,problem not fixed then wouldn’t got into D or R had to turn on & off to drive away went back to dealer needed timing chains then they found out about not going in gear 5 weeks off the road LR decided it need a new engine,February this year went into limp mode needing new inlet manifold 4 weeks off the road the quality of the workmanship at my local dealer is dreadful clips missing around the engine bay the engine undertray soaked in fuel which the dealer said wasnt down to them had to get LR UK involved to take it to another dealer to be right this week at my cost of £300,when my vehicle is out if it 1 year used warranty is it worth the buying the extended warranty, the other issues I have is the menu options with being a hse I would of thought it would come standard with little things like ambient lighting,I would have another but like yourself I would go for the 3.0.now considering adding black parts as mine is corris grey & I think would look well with them added on

I’m torn between a 2022 LR Disco and a 2023 Toyota 4 Runner TRD 4x4 off road. The Disco crash tests better by far, but I am concerned about all of the videos on here that talk about the mechanical and electrical problems with the Disco. I would only buy a used LR that’s certified from a LR dealership, so the warranty plus the additional year / unlimited miles. I guess I would have to consider the cost of the extended warranty too. Toyotas warranty on 4 Runners is awful. It’s only 2 years with the option to buy an additional 2 years. But I need a car that can handle inclement weather and can get me out if there’s flooding, which there potentially is. So torn
