With regard to LR reliability, I have owned five, four discoveries and one Freelander. Apart from routine maintenance the only bill I have had was for £270 for an AC leak on a 5 year discovery. I can not complain.

As a previous owner of a 2014 Disco 4 SDV6 from new, I was really unconvinced when this new model was released. But it’s really grown on me and your assessment is absolutely spot on. It now genuinely out rivals the large German luxury SUV’s and offers Range Rover level quality & refinement. For the same price as the base European rivals, basically everything is included even on the SE model. And it has proper off road capability that the others simply don’t offer. So a far better proposition in my view. If off roading isn’t a priority then the new Volvo XC90 is also a cooler and financially smart alternative to the German rivals.

You’ve actually given me a new appreciation for JLR cars Matt! Have me spotting Discos and RR sports I like!
Hi Mat, I had years ago the first model disco on a J plate V8 and loved it, i dragged our club dive boat around the country and even to Scotland well scapa flow actually on 2 occasions and never a problem. i am sure this new version is worlds away from that.

We get fed up of seeing them, especially with all the water leaks through the windscreen! 😂
It's a tremendously competent car. I was lent one not long after launch by our local JLR dealer and pulled our horsebox from High Wycombe to Nottingham one weekend and it was much more sure-footed than my RR - which is a good tow car. I still can't take to its looks, though.
I had a mark 1 disco, with 3 doors. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it proved to be a excellent family wagon, when the kids were little. We had great fun camping and towing things. It wasn't too bad for reliability either and fairly cheap to fix. Rust was the biggest issue in the end. These newer ones are not going to make good cheap runners though, in a few years. Too complex.
i like the offset license plate and i wish more brands would dare to do something different, even if it is just a small thing like the plates position - nowadays cars kinda look the same mostly anyway so it is good to have these unicorns on the road. i think the look of the discovery has drastically changed to the better. it looks stunning in my opinion and you could easily transform it into a gangster car if you so desire: dark grey or black paint, black wheels and you are officially a mafioso :D
As always, an excellent video! I always enjoy your reviews! Thanks!

Because I live in a quiet place, I've only seen one. Its certainly a commanding vehicle ...but light years away from the defender ethos of bolt on a another bit or fix it yourself. I think LR may have to make another new model for the utility market. There is a bit of a gap there for a much cheaper, much less complex off road vehicle

greatly I'd say. Disco numbers have tumbled since the (2020) Defender line was released. In fact I've heard since some of the parts are shared between the two, Defender's get priority as they are simply in higher demand. (I have a '22 Discovery 5 and happy not to have the "cargo space challenged" Defender 110 with that annoying swing-gate which I considered ;)) good to hear that JLR recently announced the Disco will continue in some form, there is a market for it.
I have had a D4 for 6 years now and it has been a pleasure to own, only issue I had was MAS air flow filter which I took out and cleaned myself , problem solved. I am now looking at an 19 plate D5 and must admit on the test drive it handled really well, Thanks for the review Matt was very helpful

Love How positive he is about the cars he reviews..... I hate watching people talk shit about a car they're reviewing ..... review what you love
Whenever I see one from the front or side I love the look of it. When I am following one I think it is the most confused design ever. Enjoyed the review.
Looks very luxurious but I can never get past the fact the rear door looks like a walk-in bath! :D Really enjoy the channel. Cheers!
What a great review! Thanks for doing it !
Had ours since 2020 - we absolutely love it. We tour with our caravan and it might just be the perfect towing car. With 3 kids and a dog, we never feel short on space, even on a 3 week caravan trip. Personally I find it a joy to drive, even towing a near 8 meter caravan. I also like the look of it, we have the HSE luxury with black pack, and 22" black matt alloys and I think t looks the biz, I admit the vanilla low spec models do look a bit dull.
Very enjoyable review as usual. I just can’t take to the design of the car though. I like it inside although it strikes me as being very dark but all the rounded edges loses my desire for it and the dramatic curve in the ‘c pillar’ is way too much for me. I’ve owned Range Rovers for over 30 years and have had Discovery’s outside my front door for over 20 years (of many different configurations) but think that when I change my current Discovery, I’ll probably invest in a Defender, I prefer the look of it personally.
"The Mercedes makes you look like a rich housewife from Weybridge" so accurate haha!

Best car I've ever owned. Just sold me 2017 model with a lot of tears. Going to lock in another new one without hesitation
Just purchased 2020 Hse Carp Grey. 9000 miles. Traded 14 plate RR sport dynamic. Getting it delivered to Scotland on Thursday...... Cannot wait! 🥳
I have disco 5 hse lux tdv6 2018 with 64000 miles. Bought it a year ago with 6 owners as last owner had bought then got buyers remorse. I have done 14000 miles in year and It’s been bombproof. I have 6 month old that has massive pram a lab and a wife who packs the house every time we go anywhere. I think the reliability worries are blown out proportion.
Another great review! Please keep them coming :-)
Once again the car featured (after Matts in-depth,interesting & humerus review) I yearn to own. Always had a soft spot for the disco & if the big, split tailgate Rangie didn’t exist this would be my no.1 lotto win car…

Hello Matt , superb video . Where are you filming these ?! Stunning scenery again ! The mk 3 and 4 have an ageless , iconic design that the mk 5 doesn’t. Not helped by the discovery sport , which came out first , has exactly the same design, just shrunk in the wash ! Very smart though and rubs shoulders with the Range Rover, indeed . Tempted ?! 😂👍
Love the dash layout
I love the way it looks
Just got myself 2018 one and it’s by far the best large 7 seat suv.
Another excellent review. Cheers
I think they look awesome. The interior is mint and I could not care less about the offset number plate as you can't see it when you are driving. There is a few people who can do a numberplate conversion to centre it. I would have one over the German equivalent for sure.
Great review once again Matt. I’ve yet to buy into the LR range but I do feel it coming soon.
I’ve never yearned to own a Range Rover yet I find myself attracted to this Disco. Shame it’s too expensive!

I really want one some day, I've seen so many on the road in San Francisco and Phoenix
My brother had one of these since new and AC has gone wrong twice and windscreen leak plus drivers door whistling due to gap in the door/ rubber and only done 16k. He has had 8 discovery since they fit at came out but this one has finally changed his view on them. It's a nice looking car but warranty is your best friend with these as the numbers are big when it goes wrong.
Top marks for styling inside & out.
I like it, but as for filling a gap in the range the headrests do a good job 😂
I owned a D2, currently have a D3 and D4. I like the look of the new discovery, I also like the look of the new Explorer. I can't tell the difference in the 2 and don't have any desire to pay the Rover tax until this changes.
what a great review. I have a D5 2022, I was wonder how different it was from the range rover since the share the same frame and chasis
Good article, very helpful to me mate..
Looks very nice, but if I were buying one I would go for the Petrol version, either the Si6 or P250. Those SDV6 engines like to snap cracks randomly, just like in the Disco 4's. Also you can buy a conversion kit to centre the rear number plate, deffo a must buy !

Thanks another great vid. Could you review the new Disco Sport R Dynamic HSE please?
Fantastic Review. Being a huge Land Rover fan, I still struggle with that rear end. Would much rather have the new Defender.
Secret compartment, not so secret any more, 😂😂😂👍
Would love to see you do a video on the 3 ltr v6 Velar ..same engine , smaller lighter body and better luxury .
Another great review. Don’t think I can run to those prices. But it is the HSE
Im upgrading my Discovery sport to a Disco 5 turbo diesel, used of course. Never had major issues with my discovery sport since I got it new, only thing was a turbo assembly replacement after 100k km. With this one it has more bells and whistles to go wrong and it will be a average milage used. But I plan to get a certified used from LR lot and extend the warranty. I get worried about reliability but Im confident it wont be extremely expensive to maintain like a Range Rover. I do take these cars offroad for camping with the family and sometimes tow rental trailers in Canada, so this car fits the bill.
Very helpful video, thank you. I notice you've previously reviewed the current model RR Sport, which is what I drive at the moment. I'm considering changing it for the new Disco in a few months, whilst I appreciate they are different types of vehicle, how do the handling dynamics and general manoeuvrability of the pair compare? I'm yet to drive one, and hoping its not a bit like a luxury cruise liner, not that the Sport is totally svelte and nimble though!
ace video mate !
