As mentioned below, if you don’t want it to cut the power, you need to turn stability control off. Leave the traction control on, it’s amazing. The stability control is what’s cutting your power. Great vid, and a good demonstration on the systems in the mud 😁

I need to check the guide again, I only have one button and it says neither DSC or TC etc....just a little car and some skid marks :-) so not 100% clear what I disabled, but it stopped cutting the power! Thanks I'll take a look.

Turn the traction control OFF! I got stuck like that one time in deep snow, while I was maneuvering around to set up my truck to...... pull some old lady's Volvo out of a ditch ( winter in Canada). In my panic and embarrassment , I was trying just like you the different Terrain Control modes, low gears etc, only to have the engine cut out because of excessive wheel spin and loss of traction. The truck was not going anywhere! I was thinking to myself, "Oh my God, I'm getting stuck in the snow (with Nokian winter studded tires) and everybody will be laughing with me and my Range Rover". FINALLY, my brain kicked in and turned the bloody traction control (on the dash) off, and then the diffs locked and the tires spun , kicking and scratching on all corners and drove out like a Caterpillar snow plow. Saved the nice old lady and my ego! :) Modern technology for you!

It’s probably clear to those of you who are more familiar than me with modern terrain response and DSC modes, that I didn’t know at the start of this video that I’d need to turn it off in most off road circumstances 🤣 it even says so in the manual! But hopefully you’ll appreciate I’ve come from the old world and needed to learn to turn off the DSC! I sussed it by the end however!

Similar lines of experience, similar shoot tracks and old school approach but getting used to LR’s new way of doing things. Re the comment about £70 k and scratches..well I went for the base model but it’s still a lot for messing about in the woods. Slippery mud will always need sh*t loads of inertia. Agree

I really enjoyed this Have a look at this video from Australia I kind of agree with what you’re saying. They suggested turning off DSC and not auto mode

Nice video. I think if you use the sand mode it will automatically turn off the stability control and won't kill the throttle, gives you another option to having to go through menus and turning the DSC off manually for Mud & Ruts.. I like the concept of Terrain Response, but it does seem you need to be an expert in how it is configured and the terrain to know how to use it correctly. Which makes for a fussy awkward to use setup IMO. I'm also glad you too seemed to have issues with using the Terrain Response and the button layout and menus. The old style setup in the D3/4 with the big rotary dial was much more user friendly IMO.

You should try the Ford ranger raptor on those trails if you could get one to test out, that would be fun, don’t think you would have any problems with momentum in it👍
