LANCER Lore: Karrakin Trade Baronies | Mech Knights and Sci-fi Nobles

Ойындар

Hi hello, and welcome to the Karrakin Trade Baronies. THE industrialists of the galaxy with generations of advancement, sci-fi tech, mechs, and inherited planets. Within the ancient history of the KTB we've got a 7000 head start history wise compared to Union, with some noble lines able to trace their lineage all the way back to the initial warlord monopolists from the Melee. We've got feudal mech knights marching out across the galaxy in house companies fighting battles on a half built ring world above cracking planets being extracted. It's rad.

Warhammer wise I'm already a sucker for Imperial Knights. This was a show-in to be one of the things that drew me into the setting initially.

Doesn't mean they're happy about it. Or that they wouldn't pounce on kharakis the micro second they don't need to rely on them any more. Or that the Baronies don't consider the feeling mutual. After all, the Fourth Colum and deniable mercenaries exist, and i'm just saying, H0rus can't be supplying ALL of the guns the Sanjaks and Ungratefuls have...

@@Zaktact Hey man I really like your content but you do need to do some editing of your scripts/videos. Maybe cause you're talking very off the cuff and its hard to edit stuff, especially when you had a good take but here are some errors that are just irksome. Your enthusiasm is great though! Your intro to Lancer video is what got me into the universe and its quickly become my favorite scifi setting =). So here are some things I noticed, I hope you find this helpful. Its not meant to be mean, its just some editing notes. 12:40 "can be predicted years in advanced." You mean advance. There are lots of little mistakes like this, its ok. I get it, its a bit like finding typos. But if you're not careful these sorts of mistakes can add up and make a video difficult to parse. You can't just throw -wise in as a suffix where ever you want. An example of this is 13:08 "union has to respect nobility-wise." I'm not even sure what you mean, I assume you mean that union has to respect the nobilities' requests as well. At 16:42 you say "The planets even under lightspeed-wise being very close" this sentence is also nearly entirely unintelligible. I think you're trying to say that "even at lightspeed they are very close" so just say that. Then at 10:15 you say "internal politics-wise". I can't really make out what you mean at all, I guess there's some aspects of internal politics that are concerning. At 34:00 "Black Witch-wise" so on and so forth, its a bad habit you have. If you catch yourself about to add -wise anywhere stop, take a breath and rephrase that sentence is my advice. Your videos will benefit from doing this. I just want to point out that in 1984, part of Newspeak was to just slap -wise onto any word to turn it into an adjective. If you've read 1984 you should know Newspeak was an intentional attempt to limit thought and expression and dumb down the population. You are unintentionally replicating it here, just meditate on this a bit. Sorry to be harsh. 25:25 "Again some people are looking across internally in the concern." This is unintelligible, I have no idea what you're trying to express. I actually had to stop watching because it became difficult to follow. Overall good video, I hope this is helpful. Its not meant to be mean.

@anguscampbell3020 Heyo, scripts-wise (a joke) I'm not the best. It is honestly one of my weak points when it comes to video production. The use of "wise" has slipped it's way into my general grammar similar to "like" being used to compare something. This doesn't excuse it, especially if it confuses and irritates. Though when using it, it generally alluded to a summation of that subject. "Nobility-wise" meaning virtually everything involving the nobility. The nobles, their property, their traditions, their bloodlines, their internal politics. There are even more lazy uses of it and slips. "Lightspeed-wise" being a good example of a slip up. "Advanced" was a slip of the tongue I didn't notice till WAY after. "Again some people are looking across internally in the concern." Meant to be clarification that it wasn't the totality of the concerns military goals outsiders were investigating, but the internal goals within the concern. The physical systems and the major houses inside them. This is just really poor wording on my part though. In short, I hope this cleared some of the confusion and showed that this comment and it's suggestion are noted. Not the first comment I've gotten that I've listened. I will admit though, the 1984 Newspeak comparison threw me.

@@Zaktact Your videos are really great-wise and I think you're funny. Enthusiasm-wise, double plus good for the setting :P Your analogies are also great. The newspeak comment was a bit of a joke, hope it didn't go too far lol. I imagine its hard putting together and summing up this lore. The way they write it can be dry, and dense but the content is great. Its good to have other communicators like you come along and share it in a less dry manner. Your off the cuff script has drawbacks and benefits, I imagine good analogies spring to mind while you're recording which would be hard to replicate with a script. And part of the fun is seeing how much you just enjoy the lore and the spontaneity you exhibit. This will come at the expense of intelligibility though, and make your job editing more difficult. I don't know, what the right answer is honestly. Your presentation style is clearly working already so maybe my suggestions are best ignored.

There was NOT enough time in the video to go into detail on the Dynasticlade- and you are very right, it is incredible no civil war broke out! But to expand on why: 1) Tyrannus was an unquestionable authority after winning the succession war, one that no-one wanted to even attempt to fight. 2) Calendula (the namesake of the frame), Tyrannus’ daughter, reigned over the transition- and reigned well! 3) The major houses, the forces that could conceivably wage a civil war if they weren’t scared shitless of Tyrannus, got a pretty good deal out of the Dynasticlade, gaining more power since they would no longer be beholden to a monarch. And 4) After the long low Passacaglian period and the succession war that followed, there was little love left for the crown. A lot of people, noble and ignoble, were happy to see it gone. If you couldn’t tell, I do recommend reading the field guide.

I'm currently playing a comp/con who was a political, and military advisor for a duke of House of Stone. Baronic Intelligence deemed this comp/con as a threat, and he was shipped off to forge world adjacent to Free Sanjak. He was freed by a HORUS cell, and given a Salamander (homebrew Kobold alt in Expanded and Enhanced Combat). He was picked up by the Ungratefuls after being a free intelligence, causing havok within the forgeworld, and was deemed to be a valuable enough asset to be a captain of a company. Shit went down, and now he's on the run. AWOL, and in the pocket of a UIB handler in exchange for a life free of conflict.

Noble Houses, expansive medieval-like cultures, knight mechs and a claim on humanity similar to the claim of Byzantium over the Roman legacy? Oh yeah, this is my kind of stuff.

what this says to me, is that the number 1 most pressing issue for the union, as well as its greatest source of potential issues. is its heavy reliance on the baronies for reaources. as it stands they cannot opperate without them, which means they have no leverage to enforce demands for them to respect the pillars, but without that. they have a major source of potential political unrest completely unplugged

With a bit more unity, closing the tech gaps could make the Baronies THE dominant powers. If they get on par with Union and the megacorps best, they might decide to do away with Union, and SSC is already trying to cozy up to the Baronies. Because no other faction seems to be able to achieve planetary and solar cracking materials. So Union has to increase the tech edge or find alternative material extraction on vast scale to dilute Karokan power. The biggest thing holding the Baronies back is their neo feudalism, but with this level of material wealth that the other big boys rely on.... that only hurts them so much.

I imagine like union asking for some resources: "So we neeed to build a few stations" "Yeah sure how many" "Like 3-" "3000 sure no problem we can make it in a week" P.s. fun fact; it is estimated that we could dismantle pluto whithin 60 years with current tecnology and self replicating robots, cool.

Now that I know more about the Baronies, their mech offerings become even sadder. The face of their stables is a reskin of the first SSC mech in the base book. Their special ops mech is a reskin of a base book Horus mech, And both their artillery and off tank are just SSC designed. There isn't a true statted KTB mech yet, and that these are the most KTB offerings available feels indicative of there being a roadblock of creativity in the IRL design process. This is one of the most important factions in a mech game oozing personality, and there is not mech that is truly theirs for the player to enjoy. It makes me worried about the potential to continue developing the setting and game. What are the Aunic people going to have for mechs? What WON'T they have? I could be very wrong, but it feels concerning.

Only problem is that FirstComm and SecComm doesn’t actually exist, there’s not even a clear line drawn between them. These Committees were named post-TriComm’s revolution, making a statement of “We will do what FirstComm did, and what SecComm failed to do.” Despite there being no clear distinction between First and Second.
