When she said “Black Narcissist” she’s referring to herself, like her dark depressive side that she’s tries to break free from by dancing and partying. She explained this after people were confused. It makes sense because she uses colors to display the different parts of her mind. The line before it is “white gown sociopath”

in the last song quoting “got this black narcissist off my back, she couldn’t care less and i never cared more” she’s referring to her own persona/soul, wbk that lana has serious mental health problems, so that’s how she sees a part of herself that haunts her to this day also what she means by hope can be dangerous, especially for a woman like herself, who has lived through many ups and downs, these lyrics convey a sense of desperation and emptiness, which may suggest that she places a great deal of importance on maintaining hope, despite the risk, she also acknowledges the struggles with her depression, and the power of hope, the song is a reminder that even in our lowest moments, we should never give up on hope.

So, the part you left on the last song many fans interpret(like me) as being a metaphor for herself. The Black narcissist being her shadow, the things she doesn't want to show, her vulnerability, altogether her shadow. And 'shaking her ass' would be masking all of that with a wild life and being someone she's not, following standards that are set for her and other young women to be fun, and put out, and be less frigid. It's and easy lyric to misinterpret, but anyone can thing whatever they want about it.

the album title and single is based on Norman Perceval Rockwell who was an American painter and illustrator. “black narcissist” is a metaphor/she means her state of mind, her depression and mental health that follows her around…that dark side of herself. Black used to describe the mood, a color you would associate with depression and depression can be associated with narcissistic tendencies. People who judge mental health often say that you might be too self involved/narcissistic tendencies.

Thank you for this amazing reaction. I have become such a Lana Stan that I’ve gone down such a deep rabbit hole that I’m watching hour long random reaction videos! Ha. That’s how good she is and it’s great to see someone hear it for the first time. As many have said, yeah, “black narcissist” is not referring to a black person at all. Lana is so well read and educated she often references literature and other cultural things. I think she is shouting out the 1947 classic film “Black Narcissus.” And she is talking about herself on top of that. So it definitely has nothing to do with race. It was really interesting that the one song you didn’t really vibe with was “Doin’ Time” which is a cover of the 90s song by Sublime and the only song I think on the album that she didn’t write. I definitely want to hear you dig deeper into some of these lyrics. I agree her phrasing vocal performance is one of the stronger elements of Lana, and the production by Jack Antonoff including some of the incredible changes is amazing but her songwriting is what makes her an absolute legend at this point. It’s funny you say she should try rapping, definitely do a reaction to the entire BORN TO DIE album because it has a LOT or hip hop influence. And of course on LUST FOR LIFE she does tracks with ASAP Rocky and The Weeknd. You won’t find a better album than NFR but I would love to see what you think of BORN TO DIE. Or the song “White Dress” which I think you will die at a certain moment because she has an iconic and insane vocal phrasing moment that you will flip out over. More lana :)

Lana once explained on an interview why she named the album and the opening track Norman F Rockwell. Norman Rockwell was a painter/illustrator very well known during the 20th century for portraying the American way of life. Sometimes with very idealistic images, sometimes with a bit critical tones towards the American way. During the process of writing and recording the album, Lana started to notice how those songs were painting very vivid scenes of her own feelings and personal life, and how they could relate to how she saw where the American way was setting during that time (2017-2019). Lana kinda explains the name of this album as an affirmation “Norman F****** Rockwell!” in a sense of how impressed she was by the fact that one century later his portraits are very accurate of the idealistic side of the American way but also the critical side of it. A lot of people notice even in the songs that seem to be about relationships, that this album has very political undertones, those undertones becoming very explicit during the greatest. One exemple can be the song F*** it I Love You, where she sings “you moved to California but it’s just a state of mind, it turns out everywhere you go you take yourself that’s not a lie”, which is her way of saying “New York and California are very idealized places by literally everyone, both those places can be a sh*tty hole sometimes, that’s why I left New York, that’s why I see all my insecurities even in a place I idealized so much like California”.

Hi ! I am an hardcore lana stan, she is truly amazing. she grew up in Lake Placid, NY as elizabeth grant on 21 june 1985. At 15,she had an alc0h°l addictioin. Her mother (we don't like her!!) hit her, and her father never defended her (she sings it on wildfire wildflower, Blue banisters). She isso so mysterious. Behind every lyric, there's a reason behind it. Mesmerizing. discography: 2012-... disclaimer: -she released before 20212 multiple albums (sirens, AKA lizzy grant,...) under other names than lana, BORN TO DIE/PARADISE - 2012 ULTRAVIOLENCE - 2014 HONEYMOON - 2015 LUST FOR LIFE - 2017 NFR - 2019 VIOLET BENT BACKWARDS OVER THE GRASS - 2020 (poetry book) CHEMTRAILS OVER THE COUNTRY CLUB - 2021 BLUE BANISTERS - 2021 DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE4S A TUNNEL UNDER OCEAN BLVD - 2023 LASSO - 2024 not confirmed yet, it's a country album according to her Norman Rockwell is an american painter , he was popular in the '60-'70. she reffers to many 70's culture in this album. I thinkyou would like her album from 2017: "Lust for life", it has an ethereal cinematic vibe. ASAP ROCKY and playboy carti feature on it. Her voice is tender on it. There are some trap beats like doin time on that album, so idk if you'll like based on your reaction

In the last track she said shaking my ass is the only thing thats got this black narcissist of my back. She isnt talking about a black person. She is just talking about how being free and dancing and entertaining is the only thing that sets her free of the dark narcissistic and and bad egotistic feeling that comes with being a celebrity. She is talking about that dark side of her not black people. She is an ally. Do blue banisters next

@@mkmetri Here is a sidenote from Parfums Caron: The house's first famous perfume, Narcisse Noir (1911), reached Hollywood. In the 1950s, on the set of Sunset Boulevard, Gloria Swanson pronounces the name of the perfume. The title of the 1947 film Black Narcissus refers to this very perfume. I sent you the cup of coffee Paypal message.

Metri, the producer on 'Mirrorball', Jack Antonoff, produced 11 of these tracks. He started off with Taylor and his career has snowballed to so SO many talented artists. Also, "Doing Time/Summertime" is a cover she did of a Sublime song. That's why the arrangement doesn't feel like her. She did as a track for a documentary on the band. I agree that it shouldn't have been put on the album and breaks the flow of her original tracks. 👏

To give you more info about lana del Rey born Elizabeth woolridge grant , she was born in small town called lake placid in NY. Her mother abused her and because of this and mental health issues lana started drinking excessively at age 14, her parents sent her to boarding school in Connecticut to get clean but she started doing even more drugs there. She then got sent to Spain at 16 by her mother (this is why lana can speak a lot of Spanish) where she lived for six months, she then went to university and took philosophy but dropped out to pursue music, throughout the ages of 19-25 she lived in NYC, Florida, Detroit, California to try and make it in music. She has a number of unreleased albums and demos from this time that you can find on the internet. Then she got signed by a UK label and moved to London for a year to make born to die. Which obviously made her famous, she has lived in LA pretty much since then and throughout her music career has continued taking her0in and c0caine it wasn’t until about 2019-2020 that she got fully clean. In terms of orders of listening to her stuff id do it in order of when the albums came out. She also has a poetry book which is amazing. Love ur videos ❤

in ‘hope is a dangerous thing..’ context, black narcissist is simply her depression she describes depression as narcissistic because ‘it couldn’t care less and she never cared more’, takes away whatever joy she has not considering her true wishes, intentions and feeds off of them etc.. as depression does. lana has had her past and it makes sense for her to sing about such topics as depression and put it out there between the lines 🖤 she used the colour black as a symbolic embodiment of depression, hopelessness, bereavement📝

“Black narcissist” referred to depression, as most people view depressed people as an attention seeking. Basically saying depression is the darker version of being self centered

you absolutely have to go through her discography in chronological order to understand more of her and artistry and you'll also see how much rap influences her music and lyricism, especially on her mainstream debut album born to die, which was a cultural reset that influenced pop music and all of these other girls you mentioned. as a fan of hers of 12 years now, that was a great reaction to watch! even if NFR isn't really in my top 5

@1:12:07 Bro, she uses a lot of colors to associate feelings or emotions. Red, White, Blue, Green, Violet... has been used a lot in her songs, and Black as well (Black Beauty). In the last song when she uses "Black Narcissist" she's referring to her mother. She said that "shaking her ass" was the only thing that got "her mother" off of her back, because due to Lana's "bad behavior," her mother sent her to abroad institutions (refer to her song Fingertips). No worries bro, keep listening to Lana. Don't get scared by the colors on her songs. Don't "judge her like a picture book...by the colors" Don't forget to read! lol (See what I did here with Brooklyn Baby?)

very cool how in her lyrics she refers to herself as having a low profile in public using the color black, and she identifies with the color blue because of her sad emotional lyrics that are raw as hell. since shes takes inspiration from taylor's writing style (the producer for this album is taylor's main producer) she also references taylor with the colors green/gold(taylor is rich af) , red (the opposite of her, the most public image ever), and white (white horse, white dress, like how lana has a black bathing suit.) its pretty complex looking at it all
