As National Park Service enthusiasts, we spent a few days in the Amistad National Recreation Area in Del Rio Texas, not too far from the Mexican border.
We visited two different camping sites at Lake Amistad, or Amistad Reservoir: the San Pedro Campground and Governor's Landing Campground.

I was there recently. Some greedy people took two spots with their trailer but paid for one. They were both rare level spots. I ended up moving to the 406 loop and it was amazing! Did you get any flack for not keeping your dog on a leash? Saw the signs everywhere and wouldn’t want to deal with the ranger. Did see lots of Border Patrol. I think the landmark is the Amistad Sign, but you need your passport to go there. They were going to call it Devils dam or reservoir (because it’s Devils River) but they didn’t think that was very friendly so they called it Amistad and there is a whole celebration surrounding that. It means friendship.

The reservoir looks like a great place to visit. The water level seemed to be a bit low. I watched on Tuesday, so it really was Taco Tuesday! Tasty looking tacos, BTW. 😋
