I was bus driver for The dodgers in the 80's.When they flew into Houston to play the Astros (were national league team then) i'd meet them at the airport and take the team to the hotel and games . I knew Mr Lasorta personally and he had a temper if you got on his bad side...and then of course he had an understanding and likably way about him...as long as you didnt piss him off.

Tommy Parker Thanks for the insight of your story BUT clearly Lasorta was having fun at the Phanatic's expense, as Tommy fed into his own character " feisty" to matchup with the Phillie Phanatic character causing chaos to entertain the fans ! Love the Phanatic - take care Tom.

@ASS HOLE to be clear, Tommy Lasorda, even in 1988, was a grumpy old man, and even today he hates ALL MASCOTS. His belief is that mascots distract the crowd from the game itself. Proof of this is when in 1988 he had Montreal Expos mascot Yupie ejected from the game. Now I think games need mascots, because after a while baseball, football, basketball, etc can get boring without someone in a furry suit acting like a complete moron for our own amusement. Even though he hates all mascots, Lasorda holds a special grudge against the Phillie Phanatic, because he is the biggest idiot of them all in Lasorda's veteran eyes. The Phanatic's antics are without a doubt eccentric even for a sports team mascot, and Lasorda knew then that what he did to the Phanatic on the field would make for great laughs. But he wasn't laughing; he wanted to rip the Phanatic to shreds. And it's not like it ended there. Several years ago the Phillie Phanatic finally got it's well-deserved revenge against Ol' Tommy at a Dodgers vs. Phillies game and it knew very well Lasorda couldn't do anything to it because a) he retired from coaching the Dodgers (so sad) and b) was too damn old and withered to beat the Phanatic over the head with his cane
