We're in the middle of a recession so I'm happy to see some ppl are smart enough not to fall for retailers tricks and to save their hard earned money.

I got a 55" JVC smart TV for $230 normally a $550 TV not sure how that was marked up 40% before sale.There was also ONN 40" tvs for $100 and ONN 65' tvs for $300 that sold out fast.

@@Nosfeast Some, low end brands are not that marked up. All of the name brands that hobbyists for anything have are significantly marked up. ONN electronics is hit and miss, kinda like Walmart bikes for people into mountain biking

People once thought they'd never see a day where malls wouldn't be jam packed or see them close down entirely. Things change, we don't rent at Blockbuster, we don't take taxis because of Uber, we don't use public payphones, people don't go to the drug store to get pictures developed anymore. Times do change and it's daunting to see it happen before your eyes

People don’t take taxis because the charge is ridiculous and they discriminate, no one uses public pay phones because they hardly exist anymore, and people do get photos developed. It’s just not a necessity anymore

I live across the street from the south county mall, it hasn't been busy at all in recent weeks, much less Black Friday. Its not just brick and mortar retailers who're hurting, I run an e-commerce business and I'm thousands in the negative this year. I saw very little traffic and just a handful of sales during this year's Black Friday. People are broke. There's still plenty of jobs available, but many don't pay so well, and layoffs are hitting the jobs that do pay well. We did have several quarters of economic decline, so we are technically in a recession right now.

Let’s be honest, the reason there’s no lines is because Black Friday DEALS are no longer worth braving the lines and freezing cold for. All retailers do now is con shoppers into buying junk. I remember a few years ago there was a good deal on a certain TV, when we got in the store we were told they only had 2 of those TV’s to sell and both had been grabbed by other shoppers already. They draw you in with a good deal that you have no chance of getting (because they have extremely low stock of the good deal), knowing you’ll impulse buy junk just to make you feel better for having spent hours waiting in the cold. Nope. No thanks.

Because year after year we all stood in line for hours in the cold sometimes with unpleasant people only to find out many of the door buster deals weren’t true. I stayed home and spent over $1,000 online getting gifts over 70% off and free shipping, drinking a beer eating honey roasted peanuts.

I worked at Walmart as a kart pusher during black Friday last year. Was rather tame compared to my other ones in retail. Still a constant amount people coming in but I could chill and smoke in my car for half hour. Every hour and not have to do much. It was probably my most enjoyable time at work.

Three things that don't exist anymore... 1.) Snow days 2.) Black Friday fight videos 3.) My faith in humanity

People are FINALLY getting smart! I never understood the black friday shopping frenzy. The stores are open every day of the year and you can shop online 24/7. It's nauseating to see the fights over cheap merch, employees injured and bad behavior.

I work in retail and Black Friday was insanely busy and my store made about $30k above our goal that day. Funny enough our discount was actually worth shopping for compared to these other stores only advertising 20% off or “up to” 40%

I think this was a combo of things. Inflation is encouraging people to spend less, stores rolled out Black Friday deals early, people are scared of the crazy sales mobs, and yeah, sometimes shopping online is easier if you already know what you want. I personally love shopping in person at malls and stores, so I don’t think in-person shopping is dead. In fact, I spend more when I’m physically in the stores than online. However, I tend to avoid Black Friday shopping and go online when I know what I want to get someone and don’t wanna impulse-buy.

People are waking up to the fact that living a life as a consumer slave isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Either that or you work a job you can handle and perform within your abilities so you can use the currency you earn from the job you can perform to get products and services from people and companies that can perform tasks you can't even fathom to perform at prices that aren't actually that bad when you look at it from the grand scheme of things who would've thought you can get a phone for 100 bucks that can give you communication and knowlege from the entire world in the palm of your hand for just a day's worth of work.

Let's be honest, people didn't do it cause we just don't have the money. The deals aren't that great, and no one makes enough to spend the hundreds of dollars we use to. For the past couple of years I have had to start Christmas shopping in January and put it up for December and shop through the year. I will do that again next year as well, cause frankly unless you make over $100,000 a year, you just can't wait no more. The economy sucks for most people and it is affecting how we spend on the holidays. I even had to cut back on what I made for Thanksgiving this year cause of the prices of food. Usually we get a ham for Christmas, and this year it doesn't look like we are going to get one cause the cheapest we have found one so far is around $60 where we live.

No. People don't have any money on top of out-of-control inflation. It's NOT about online shopping. I own two small online businesses that would normally thrive around now & I'm selling nothing. Friends that do the same in different industries are also hurting. Lots of people also want the experience, sure many of us didn't like it but many also did. They just liked going out for the day, having some food & a good time with family or friends & coming home to wrap some presents. People liked the experience but now there isn't even money for that.

Been in business for 9 years....never experienced anything like this where October and November ( usually super busy months) SELLING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. When I was a kid, I rem the cabbage patch craze.

People have moved on from this. It used to be when I was driving home from Thanksgiving Dinner with relatives I would see the parking lots packing up at Target and Walmart before they even open the next day. Now, it's no longer people acting like animals, breaking down the doors at Walmart. It's not just St. Louis, but all over.

I'm so happy black Friday deals are available online! Standing in long lines at like 5 am is not for everyone

It’s a combination of getting the same deals/earlier deals online and INFLATION. Like I’m barely shopping these deals because I barely have money for bills this year. On top of unexpected expenses. It’s horrible.

I never waited for a store to open on Black Friday. In fact I avoided shopping on the day altogether. I don’t let advertising dictate what I buy but rather I let my needs dictate my shopping. With that I’ll ask myself a series of questions like will this change my life for the better? Will it serve me often or collect dust? I don’t buy much. I don’t want future yard sale items around the house.

Several years ago i went to a black Friday sale. I was first in line. I went in and got the shopping cart full of things for my kids. Pushed the cart up to chek out,and they announced Store is closing in 15 minutes. They would nit allow any sales of anything. I work in retail and we were slotted to make 80k or so. At the end of the day we may have made 1/2 that. Thing is though we didn’t have as many online orders either. Inflation is a beast and if you have to pay 40% more for eggs, you may not be out spending on black friday

Idk where you live but a dozen eggs is now 5 dollars in idaho., Where many many people even raise their own chickens! 3 years ago a dozen eggs was 99 cents. So that is a 500% increase!

@@latino12341 we have been buying 5 dozen for around 15.50. but even that is a 310% increase. Costco 5 dozen used to be 4.60 so that is still even more than 310%. As a whole a cart of groceries has gone up over 250%. I really feel bad for seniors on fixed income. How do they feed themselves??

Black friday where I'm from, 7am the Tanger outlet mall was packed to the point where the parking spaces that I never imagined being used were full. Same with the traditional mall, there were litterally zero parking spots left. It was to a point where people parked in the lot across a busy street and this lot already had issues as there was a fitness club, trader Joe's, best buy and a ton of other smaller stores. All I have to say was the tradition of waiting in line at midnight may be over. However, there is certainly no shortage of in person shoppers and I am very happy to see what I saw. Complete Insanity and yes, the deals were actually decent.

I mean their “black Friday” deals now are like “20%” off. That’s not a Black Friday deal, that’s a coupon.

Never shopped Black Friday in my entire life. I don’t understand why people even do. Probably retailers conditioning us to be consumerists. I can buy online easily, and buy things when I need them, not when they’re on sale

You used to get the best deal on a good item or even got something that is very hard to get. For example i got my PS5 2 years ago on black Friday. They were impossible to buy, even online back then. Same with graphics cards. Another example i got a 34pcs GLASS Tupperware set for $15 that's very high quality. And a $250 nighthawk router for $80.... These items i got about 4 years ago. And i didn't have to wait in line for these items i just showed up around 8am. That's why I do black Friday shopping, this year they had no real good deals at all. Most of the stuff was only like $20-$40 off retail price, a very common price cut.

Same I never went to the store on black Friday. Most of the deals were on things that I didn't need.

I've kept a wishlist all year for things that would make my life easier around the house and it's been interesting to see how the price on items on my list increased and then went "on sale" for black Friday keeping it at the same price as before. No deals

@@247VillainStatus My issue with Amazon is it is hard to tell a knock off from the original and 90% of what is on Amazon is Chinese garbage. A lot of the time you can find original name brand items for less on retail sites without the worry of getting scammed.

@@DanielA23 I am not buying from Amazon necessarily looking for deals, most times it maybe slightly higher. My main attraction to Amazon is convenience period. I have bought a few things $1000+ in price, but most things are regular items. So I'm not too worried about a knock off spatula.

@@247VillainStatus Dont get me wrong, I use Amazon way more than I would like to just for the convenience reason. Free shipping, easy returns etc. are all huge for me. I have however been getting more particular on where my items are made and try and find US based when possible, avoiding Chinese goods whenever possible. I have received a few items not as described and returned them.

I just went to south coast plaza mall near by but one half of the mall the parking lot is half empty and other side across the street other half mall was crowded so I guess it just depend on the stores where people usually go.

Inflation, early black friday sales a week or 2 ahead in store and online, stores with poor inventory and serious staffing problems. My store was slow as well.

I'm good...I am just at home enjoying my peace. I didn't even buy anything online today. I am definitely on a limited income, but I used to at least go out and enjoy the scenery. I am also a tad under the weather and really do need to stay home and rest up. I am a disabled vet and I am happy just to go to art therapy at the Veteran's Administration Recreation Center. Stay safe everyone.

I went by a Best Buy on Black Friday in the way to dinner and I saw three cars in the lot and two were parked in curbside pickup slots.

This was the worst black Friday for deals in my lifetime. No new sales that started Friday. Everything was on sale for a mediocre "black friday" price since 2 weeks before black Friday. I hope retailers took a hit in sales so next year they'll actually have deals again to entice people with REAL deals to come out and buy stuff at their stores.

What's so surprising? The times are showing clearly .

It's more like people can no longer afford blowing money. Prices increase and paychecks go down. Even if you're a professional you probably aquired a lot of debt.

This is how it should be, and I hope it stays this way. Finally, people understand it's better to shop online while being safe at home with their families.

I remember someone saying they passed by a parade recently, and they were just about to join, but they thought,"This is a perfect setting for a mass shooting, and passed in more ways than one.

I worked Black Friday (retail), and it was super busy. My store made about 15k over projections, which is equivalent to about a week's worth of sales in the 15 hours we were opened. Then again, I work in a bargain outlet, where the prices are already cheaper than normal.

TV's prices has gone down in last 10 years. Most of those people camping out in the parking lot were mostly waiting to get 60 inch plasma. And now Black Friday deals starts a week early and you can just order anything online.

Yeah what the hell does everyone expect we can barely afford to put food on the table at thanksgiving

Not just online shopping and inflation killing off this worst of American holidays, it's also most stores running sales minus the doorbusters the week before Black Friday.

Black Friday isn't a custom. Retailers invented it.

No one is buying tvs when they don't even have a house to live in.

I live in another city but it looked the same here. Lack of door busters is one good reason. Prices aren't as low as they were in the past. The stores even used to offer gift cards to the first people in line. I missed the days when you would get the Thanksgiving newspaper just to get all the bf ads. Another reason for lack of shoppers is inflation and the retailers have been kind of having bf deals for at least a month before bf.

It's not just that people shopping online it's also the fact that everything is crazy expensive so deals are also not what they used to be

I mean I rather shop online then running into someone trying to fight or end up in a shooting

we had no lines at Walmart or Best Buy by me. Our Walmart closed for Black Friday, so I shopped at big lots at midnight.

I didn't do any Black Friday shopping. My family and I went to our grandparents grave and decorated it for the winter season, we went to lunch, and came home and started decorating the house for Christmas.

All my paycheck or most of it this year went to bills and inflation. If I could I’d be shopping but this year was just harder finance wise.

I haven't participated in Black Friday in over 10 years. I just wait for Cyber Monday and most stores have been doing Black Friday deals for weeks now so Black Friday is hopefully going to be one of those obsolete things soon.

I miss Black Friday as a tradition with my family- my mom would get so excited lol we would go to ihop as a group then “divide & conquer “ at different stores to get the items she had found in the papers lol Mom passed away & since COVID honestly we barely make it by with rent & groceries anymore… it’s sorely missed as a tradition but honestly we just didn’t have the extra for it anymore. I know last year I said maybe next year but I don’t see anything changing… just rent going up & grocery prices 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Ain’t nobody waisting their $4 or $$5 a gallon gas to drive to the store to wait in line to pay for “sale “ stuff that’s not even a sale it’s regular price and we all broke ! Grocery’s is expensive too !

Stores usually advertise what deals they're going to have before black friday. I didn't see any of that, so I didn't know what deals where at what stores.

The odds of me getting mugged or my car busted into while I'm shopping goes to zero when I stay at home. I wish people could go out without fear and enjoy life the way it was a few short years ago. It can happen again.

I work at the mall and was blissful

I went to Walmart about 5:30am just to see what they had to offer, but they were closed and no one was outside haha. I hated working there. Glad to see they're finally hurting.

Decided to go to the mall. I had chosen what I wanted online from retailers and went to the mall to compare prices. Ended up finding online was cheaper and more discounted than the mall. Walked out without buying anything after going to various stores. And the stores I did go to were packed with people paying for stuff even then it wasn’t worth it waiting in line to pay or even browsing since it was packed.
