Wait til y'all find out about Alaska. This isn't new at all, it's just that too many of *us* are either afraid to leave what they know or aren't being told that you can go anywhere the US holds territory with a voucher. One of my aunts used the program to relocate to another country.Just research who has an open housing program, have a viable skill that shows you're willing to work instead of live off their government & be open to go wherever the need is greater. It's not that you can transfer out of the country, they just help/allow people with limited income to relocate for either very low cost or free as long as you're moving to better yourself/can help them improve their economy.

Section 8 is a great tool to get back on your feet. I used the money I saved on rent to get reliable transportation, work clothes, etc. As things improve, you contribute more and more to your rent until you no longer need assistance. I've been at my current job 28 years and able to give back to the community. It was a lifesaver back then for me and my daughter, who now owns a successful business. We're not all bad people.

Most of the ppl making rude comments qualify 🤦🏾‍♀️ It depends on the county and city. Each HA has its own qualifications and criteria list. That’s because it’s based off the area. With inflation going up, most ppl qualify anyway. They tend to confuse section 8 with Luther programs. I know many county and state workers on it. Ppl who have disabilities as well. Not everyone that’s on section 8 wants to be. Some ppl use the program to elevate themselves. We all know how these companies will pay u pennys and expect you to be ok. Let’s be honest! People commenting here in a negative vain should pay attention to the entire video in detail. This woman was living in Philly in an apartment when the housing agency that owns and manages that apartment complex made a decision to redevelop that property and she was FORCED to vacate. This was NOT HER CHOICE. So she decided that if she had to give up her home through NO FAULT OF HER OWN she would take that lemon and make lemonade. This sort of thing happens more frequently than people understand. Quite often when this happens individuals and families can end up permanently displaced or in a homeless shelter. We should all be happy for her and quite frankly I am proud of her. She took a bad situation and turned it into an improvement in her own personal circumstances...Bravo and well done... I had to figure out on own how to work and take care of small kids with no help. I manage to turn life around completely but still have never had child support or help in any way. It seems there are different standards and help for people who they see different than minority groups. I hope things are better for everyone and children don't have to suffer. I see why people are mad when a non citizen can get help and more than someone who's family has been here since beginning. Black women stay on this program for years and years and years paying next to nothing in rent. People in this program do very little to try to get skills to improve their lives so they can support them selves on their own. That's too hard for them to do, it's too easy to mooch off the tax payers to subsidise there rent. I see this all the time. Even through it's government subsidized you still need a willing landlord to get it. So yes it's a government hand out but it's also income for those willing to lease their homes to those in need. I think if people knew they could move around the country it would actually be better for everyone. If you're in a place where work is hard to find and you can move to a city with a better opportunity, go for it. On the other hand if you're tired of the city life and want place and quite for your family and a smaller town would suit you, you should be able to do so.

Why not get pissed off at those folks instead of the poor folks who have no option but to live in them? Or let's talk about the agencies themselves, shall we? I know of an Executive Director of a HA who once dogged her residents and made people homeless for little or no reason and lo and behold! She was busted at her home in a neighboring county selling weed and I'm talking weight! Or why are these agencies given the option to have Family Self Sufficiency programs or not? That is the way a lot of families have managed to get off Section 8 but some are not forced to have them, they allow them to close down FSS programs. It is not a party to be poor, old or disabled, Folks! It really isn't! If you're really ill, do you actually have the ability to run all over creation to apply, recert, etc? It ain't a party, Fam!

The cost of moving, and the deposit on the apt is not covered by the voucher, and since people who use the vouchers are mostly on public assistance and aren't allowed to have savings, it is a major barrier. I notice in this video that she is happy to be there, but is sleeping on what looks like an air mattress on the floor, with little furniture otherwise. Boy I tell you they pick and choose who they want to get these vouchers too I've been trying to get on section 8 for over a decade now and it's almost like they're trapping you and forcing you to stay somewhere you're not happy and sometimes not safe

I live in California and I am a now a homeowner. When my children were little my husband and I applied for section 8 and there was a 10 year waiting list. After doing research we found out that most if not all units or housing allowed participants to live in the residences for up to 10 years. I believe because of this it makes it difficult for families that really need housing to obtain it. Thank God we are now homeowners. The apartment complex close to where we live is run by section 8 not only are these apartments 1 to 4 bedrooms the county has completely redone them and section 8 participants paid between $50-$200 a month to live there. But the concern I have is when you look at the carports why in the heck are they driving brand new vehicles? Hi I truly believe that if you’re in section 8 you should be given a minimum of 1 to 5 years to get things together, move on and give other families the opportunity to utilize the program.

Ah so getting a new reliable car while you can afford it is not allowed? My mother was on section 8 when I was young and I got myself car that had 38 miles on it. It was new. It's been years and I still drive that car. It took me years to even save the money to get it. Being poor doesn't mean you can never have anything nice or reliable. EDITED TO ADD: This was not a super expensive car. It was "the dealer's test car" which is why it had 38miles on it and was sold as used. And because I was a working, my income was counted and I had to pay a portion of the rent as well. When my mom had section 8 that was a requirement, everyone in the house over 18 needed proof of income, so when I got older, I paid too. Eventually things got better and we no longer qualified.

How do you know how much they pay for rent? Do you know how Section 8 vouchers work?? YOUR RENT AMOUNT IS BASED ON YOUR INCOME... and a lot of other factors like if it's an apartment, house, or a townhouse, if it's gas or electric, if you pay water sewer and garbage...ect... And if you don't have income then you pay $0. And your comment about what type of car someone has is just completely IGNORANT! Someone on Section 8 can most definitely have a nice car if they work and budget their money good enough!

What do a Car have to do with anything? If no one judged you for actually having a husband! And still had to apply for section 8. With 2 capable people! I think think what they are driving is the issue

@@justinenicole3926 first of all it’s not about getting a car it about getting a used reliable car. No one on section 8 should be driving around in a $30-$40,000 vehicle much less a $20,000 vehicle, especially if you classify your self as being poor. If you could pay a vehicle then you could pay rent without assistance. Anyone that is receiving public assistance or living in public housing should be saving money. That means driving a used vehicle or using public transportation then so be it. Because at the end of the day it’s people like my husband and myself and other hard-working people that are paying.
