It is a disgusting practice here in America companies use to pay servers less and put the burden on the customer. I very rarely order pizza delivery anymore it's not worth it. Now, business owners and corporation executives make trillion$, live in mansions, drive multiple luxury cars, vacation homes, etc.. etc., and they expect customers to subsidize their employees. This makes me crazy, I’m in a service based business, doing automotive reconditioning work, but we price our services to match our level of skill. Our credit card processing service allows us to add the option for customers to leave a tip, but I disabled it. People have enough on their plates these days without the added “guilt” of feeling an obligation to leave a tip in an industry they aren’t accustomed to doing so. Food service workers absolutely deserve a tip for good service, and maybe your cleaning staff at a hotel, but beyond that the services you pay for should be fairly priced to account for the time of the individual providing the service.

I’m a developer it’s by design. Most people leave jobs in the service industry from the stress of dealing with poors with attitudes. The solution is fairly simple. Make the food more expensive to price out those people in person, and cut deals on an app to get them in when you need sales. I’ve noticed this trend happening a lot on multiple apps. I don't think I've done any 24+ hour straight workdays (I might have, but its been too long to remember), but my last job I worked for several months without a single day off (I was coming in at about 8 am, then leaving at between 7-9pm, then coming back around 11pm and staying until around 2-3am and repeating the next day weekends included doing a full day). I actually got griped at for showing up at 8:30 one morning instead of 8 (we didn't have a strict schedule anyways, and 8:30 was within the suggested time window), and I just said yes sir and made sure to get there at 7:30 the next morning, but I felt like that was a pretty picky demand. Then I wanted to take 1 day off (I was still showing up to work right after vomiting sometimes, my boss did not like excuses plus if I'm going to feel miserable I might as well get stuff done), and he pretty much said "no, you have projects to do". That lazy boss I'm pretty sure was sleeping in his office 1/4 the time billing his naps to the government (he'd lock his door and you wouldn't hear a single mouse click or paper shuffling for hours), and he'd have the younger engineers like myself signing off on FAULTY aircraft designs that didn't match manufacturers specs trying to sneak shady stuff past us (he looked pale like a ghost one time when I suggested since he had a professional engineering license, that HE signed off for one of them, which he refused, and said I had till COB to sign off on it). Everyone else at the company was pretty decent, and I highly respected my colleagues, but he started asking some of the best ones even to work weekends for free so some of my leads were working Sundays without pay... I wouldn't even consider that a particularly terrible boss, but I have very little respect for him, mostly since he tried to pass some really shady stuff (besides illegal billing to the government and breaching worker contracts). My current job is really cushy and exceedingly high pay. I just wish where its located didn't have terrible laws because I'll probably leave this miserable corrupt state at the earliest opportunity (this state says your life is worthless, that its not legal to defend it, so your best option is to dump the bodies in self defense because even if its the most justified defense in the world YOU are going to jail, oh and the cops never even show up anyways so its a terrible state and that alone should make anyone run). I do have a respectable amount saved up though, so I'll be fine, its just unfortunate the state is so corrupt.

Tipped workers do in fact have the same minimum wage as everyone else, here’s the issue: tipped worker makes $100 in tips on a 4 hours shift, they can claim that and pay the taxes on the full amount. Or they can figure out what tips they needed to hit right at minimum wage and pocket the rest tax free. Now, I’d your an employer that noes wait staff is under claiming 90% of their shifts, are you then going to let them accurately claim when they have a slow night? Tipped staff need to accept they either always fully claim and pay the taxes, or they always claim they made minimum and hope for the best. Finally there are states where tipped workers have higher minimum wage than no tipped workers, especially in places like Washington state and that general area.
@Milesco

To deliver your food I have to Use my own car, your own gas, my time, energy, risk getting in accidents in bad weather, get forced to miss holidays and deliver food, etc. The least you can do is reward the driver even a couple dollars to help them pay their bills. You don’t have to do much at all! I even get happy when someone just leaves me a water bottle or candy bar as a tip. You don’t have to give $20 to every time. If you “cant tip” your delivery drivers, baristas, hair stylists, servers then don’t go at all. Its as simple as that and if you cant tip your Uber driver, take the bus. Sorry mommy dear showed you greed, but you refusing to tip steals income from the employee. If you disagree with having to tip then don’t do business there. Simple answer
Tipping actually hurt the employees more….. I stop going to places if I’m put in an awkward situation where I have to tip or donate.

Ive been messing around with doordash a few months now on and off and I can now understand how waiters feel. When I subtract taxes out of the base pay, then add tips and subtract gas from the total, doordash WOULD NOT survive without tips. I dont think people realize that.

@@ItsAllAnillusion same, Walmart delivery does not give me the option on their app, so I try and keep cash on hand. The delivery drivers always go out of their way for their customers. I have always tipped my delivery person, usually $3. Maybe I'm old-fashioned.
We really need to switch to the euro model It really is nerve wrecking to tip and the shame you get for not tipping is insane
As more and more companies don't pay livable wages.
And customer service is at an all time low smh -this is the equivalent of everyone gets a blue ribbon at the elementary school track meet. People still gotta work for the tip. Watch next they’re going to be asking you to tip your Amazon driver

I was thinking that and the self-checkout.
I have tipped big in the past but now I feel people are just plain old greedy these days…
At this one Japanese Steakhouse near me that serves great sushi, the best variety package is $100. On DoorDash it's $150. Why the heck is DoorDash charging 50% more, plus delivery fees, and a tip??! Somebody stop this nonsense!
I really dislike tipping and discount culture. Why can’t businesses just tell me the price of a thing is up front. Instead they guilt and trick you into paying more and force you to do additional math to figure out how much you will be paying. They should increase prices to pay their workers a livable wage instead of forcing their employees and customers into awkward situations.
I have worked in the Tipping industry and even I think this is getting ridiculous! They need to change the settings on those POS systems so that it doesn't automatically show up with the option to tip in places that is inappropriate to ask that to begin with.

And BEFORE any service is rendered. Good tips are for good service. Crappy tips are for crappy service. No tips are for no service, like just pointing at the POS system.
One day I placed my take out order in an app. It asked me for the tips and I chose 0% because I didn't sit inside their restaurant. And when I went there to pick up my order, the owner asked me to wait with annoying face and another guy showed up but he didn't say any single words. I provided him the order number on my phone and he gave the bags to me and turned around like I was the worst person in the world even though I said thank you to him. 😯💨

I never tip before the service is rendered. There’s a tip jar by the pick up desk if they did a good job and had it ready when they said they would.
I went to a coffee shop the other day and the tip prompts began at 25% and went up to 50%. I normally tip 25% and considered that to be on the higher side, not the lower side.

You aren’t required to tip. You tip if you want to Don’t be pressured
I only tip at restaurants and even that makes me wanna laugh from time to time. I was in boulder a month ago and the tip suggestion at a restaurants was like 30% 25% 22% and 20%, with 30% being the top option and it was also calculated after tax. I have friends who are nicer than I am and they just can't hit that no tip option in front of a human.

I've seen tip options on the device at 15/20/25% when there was already a 20% service fee at a nicer restaurant. So combined, you're asking me for a 45% or more??!

I give $5 for great service, $4 for really good service, $3 for ok service, and $0 for anything less than mediocre service. For EXCEPTIONAL service I might tip as much as $10 depending on the experience. I do not base my tips on prices. At a bar, I don't tip per drink. I run a tab and regardless of my tab I tip the same way. The average server in 2022 in my city makes $38/hr, average bartender $55/hr and some make a lot more... That's MORE than enough.

I only tip for sit down service in a restaurant, not for pickup. On average I tip 20%, because I know that wait staff are underpaid, and round off to the nearest 25 or 50 cents. Easier to balance checkbook later... no odd cents. 🤗

@@dreaming_cthulhu no, they're underpaid because the law allows for them to be underpaid. not tipping will not change the law. minimum wage needs to increase, and laws regarding tipped minimum wage needs to change.
