As a former certified Blue’s Clues kid, I think that the main appeal of the show to kid’s back then, and Steve references this, is the way that Steve spoke to the children. There is a certain level of respect that he gave the preschool viewership, speaking to them like human beings and asking them “What do you think?” It’s hard to imagine when you’re an adult, but as a kid, adults don’t really talk to you very often. They speak at you, but they don’t engage with you as another person. I think kids appreciated someone speaking to them, through the television set, in a way that made them feel respected and comfortable. I think that’s why people my age became attached to Steve as 3-6 year olds.

I'm a 35 year-old man, and hearing this guy's voice is like listening to my grandfather to my brain. It's the most surreal experience I've ever had. I watched this in tears. I was too old for Blue's Clues by the time I watched it. But I had much younger sisters, and I can remember sitting in the floor with them in the mornings before school and encouraging them to play along with Steve because they were so quiet. "I just wanna say, over all of these years, I never forgot you!" When that first dropped, I was almost in tears. Both of my daughters were toddlers when Blues Clues came out and it was such a huge part of our lives and something we bonded over. It was like reconnecting with someone who had a profound impact on your life, who had somehow remained frozen in time like our memories of him. 10 years later I had my first son, and he grew up with Joe. 12 years later I had my second son, and he's growing up with Josh. Blues Clue's is to millennials, gen z and the next generation what Sesame Street was to children of the 70s and 80s. What an amazing show!

I genuinely believe Blue Clue’s changed Steve’s life. He was just a goofy 23-year-old who got a kid’s show gig and it’s shaped his worldview and personality ever since. Who knows who he would have been without the opportunity, and how different we’d be without him.
I remember being so sad as a child when Steve left, it was like watching your best friend move. Then when his video came out in 2021 saying hi to us I honestly cried a little and was surprised by how much it meant to see him and hear him address what happened. My son watches Blues clues now and I was dreading getting to the episode where Steve left. I sat and watched the whole thing with him, and it was sad all over again. Watching my son ask where he was in the next episode and explaining that sometimes people leave when they grow up. Decades later and he is still teaching curiosity and actual life lessons.

The reason we felt so heartbroken when Steve left was because we were a generation where a LOT of us had dysfunctional, or broken, homes and families. Our needs and emotions about things were brushed under the rug. Steve has such an amazing talent for talking to you as if there’s no one more he cares about in the world. He felt truly grateful for our help, and seemed to genuinely look at us and care about our opinions we were yelling at the screen. Very few people could do it with that much genuineness. He made us feel seen. For me, he was one of very few people in my childhood who made me feel important. It seems silly because it was just a kids show, but it’s true. I waited all day for blues clues to come on. I cried the day they aired the episode of him leaving, even though I was a year or two out of my blues clues phase, I watched with my little brother and was so sad he was going. Idk if he’s a match for Steve, but my kids watch Josh now, and he’s also very talented.
There’s just something about him that just calms me and puts me at ease. He really was the Mister Rogers of that time. Now my daughter watches blues clues and loves him!

In the words of Oprah: You get a documentary! You get a documentary!! You get a documentary! EVERYBODY GETS A DOCUMENTARY!
The college episode actually tackled and addressed the theme of growing up and moving on instead of just having him leave behind the scenes, which really taught a good lesson and makes it so impactful
I definitely cried when he put out that short video. I didn’t realize we as a generation needed that. What a good guy and a good program for us.
I spent many hours with my grandson watching Steve and Blues Clues, it was part of our daily routine for years. Blues Clues was a big part of what formed the relationship my grandson and I have today.
Steve was everything to my kids. They all have autism and they were devastated when he left the show. When he came back with that message to us all in 2021..it actually helped my kids breathe a sigh of relief and heal. ❤ It surprised me how much it affected us all.

I’m just a year younger than Steve and I worked in a neighbourhood toy store when he was doing Blues Clues, kids really felt that he was their friend and completely loved him! When he did the 2021 video, I wept over how he still held that connection to the young adults that loved him as kids, that he reached out to let them know he was still their friend. So incredibly heartwarming❤️ What a good dude!

Went to his panel at Salt Lake FanX, he talked about how he didn't realize it was a live-action role. He thought it was going to be a cartoon character he voiced. When he realized, he wasn't sure about auditioning-- then went ahead with it and did what we saw in the show--got right up in the camera and spoke to the audience. It was something none of the other people did. It worked.

Steve and Blue were some of the only bright spots in my childhood. I could visit Steve and Blue's house and feel all the kindness and safety I longed for at home. I was moved to tears to see him after all these years. I'm so glad Steve is doing well. He has the hearts of a generation and he doesn't take that lightly. Much respect, Steve.
As a mom whose older children watched Blue’s Clues, I just always wanted to thank Steve. He was a joy to watch and didn’t patronize the children, and that is a really tough thing to do. Now, my oldest daughter feels such nostalgia at anything Blue’s Clues and has such a love, even now, for Steve.

I Remember Meeting Steve Back As A Kid During In Kindergarten At School Back In 2000.
Steve was my childhood hero in every way possible. We almost have the same name (I'm Stephen while he goes by my nickname "Steve"), he wore green all the time which is my favorite color, and he and Mr. Rogers are easily the best kids' show hosts of all time. I was OBSESSED with Blue's Clues as a kid and still am. I literally had a little kid's size version of his shirt that was official merchandise that I wore when I was a little kid. If I ever were to have kids, I would absolutely make sure they watch Steve's version of Blue's Clues and are impacted by him just like I was. When I was in Times Square recently and saw him on the poster for the new movie, the nostalgia hit me so hard, and I got so excited to see him like a little kid all over again. Also, I love the Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper heart pin that he's wearing.
I’m so glad I found this interview ❤ we will always love Steve ❤️
I was born in 2004, so while I wasn’t a 90’s kid that watched the show as it aired, I was still young enough to watch reruns and loved every minute of it. I remember owning my own “notebook” and my little Blue plushie. Blue’s Clues was a huge part of my childhood, and like many, I teared up watching the video. Steve was the next-gen Mr. Rogers. At least, I feel he was. Still is, in fact.

I can go back and watch Blue's Clues and not get second hand embarrassment because of how you were throughout the show. You really were like a big bro to our generation; no over the top gestures, no high pitched voice to keep us entertained... you were calm, you were chill, and I think that's what made you so different from the "characters" kids are growing up with now through youtube and tv
