La Dualité de l’Équipes, Part II: Larrousse Formula One

Last video: • La Dualité de l’Équipe...
France has an amazing racing culture. Legendary drivers and teams have been based out of there. But two Formula One teams have been based out of France, and had some semblance of staying power. This is the story of the less successful, more controversial one of the two: Larrousse Formula One.

Hi! As you say that you didn't find the whole story, here we go. Some time ago I did a research about Waldorf/ Walz while writing a piece for my (amateur) motorsport blog about Larrousse history, finding some archive from Italian newspaper and also a court document archive. That's how the story looked from them: Walz was apparently a former racing driver who had a brief presence in Formula Aurora in the 70s. By the late 80s/early 90s he was involved in an illegal business about stolen cars trade and he fled from Portugal when in his house there were found two buried corpses of the owner of the house ans of a Swiss man he had business with. As there was an international arrest warrant over him, under a fake name he based in Italy near Milan, where he killed another two people. One of the victim was alegedly narcotized by Walz' brother and nephew (the latter also involved with Ligier under a fake name and claiming to be Waldorf's son in law), locked into a car and, after a failed attempt to kill him setting the car on fire, was killed with a jack by Walz and some Canadian man. Walz and the Canadian guy were accused by Walz's brother and nephew when they were arrested in Germany for their involvment in the murder. From the documents I found, the Canadian got a life-imprisonment in Italy. Not sure if he's actually still in jail, or even if he's still alive (last article I found mentioning him was dated 2012). About Walz' nephew and brother, they served jail time in Germany until around the late 90s. About the video: very good work and very good to talk about the story of a team which is often forgotten. If I can suggest you something, though, when some text appears in the video, it oftwn disappears before having time to read it. If you do other videos in the future, I suggest you to either keep the text on screen for more time, or to avoid text at all. Greetings, Milly

Thank you for all of this info. Eventually I’ll probably re-release this and the Ligier video with more information, this will really come in handy. As for the text, I will keep that in mind going forward. I have a video coming out later today that I finished earlier this week that likely has the same problems, and for that, I am sorry, but for new videos going forward, I’ll give the text blurbs more time to breathe.

I dont french too good, but I am a big fan of their motorsports efforts. Great vid, Reckon i'll stick around. Shame Larrousse didn't have much, if any, success but they were easily some of the prettiest cars on the grid.

Also, Larrousse would have been 11th on countback at best in 1988.
