I think it's very hard to keep a movie franchise good because studios simply see the dollar signs, I am so glad that the uncle grandpa movie franchise was always 10/10s, from Uncle Grandpa: Electric Goobaloo to Uncle Grandpa: Revenge of Aunt Grandma the quality always shined above everything else, which can not be said for the Kung fu panda franchise

I think the main issue isn't that the bar was high and the sequels went below it, but that the bar was low and the first movie went far beyond it. As kids' movies, 2 and 3 hold up fine, it's just 1 is such an absolute masterpiece you can't help feeling disappointed with sequels. In my opinion, it's one of the trilogies of animated movies which holds up the best, much better than HTTYD or Toy Story (obviously both of those had franchises had bangers, but the sequels were... not great.). A movie i'd like to see talked about is Ice Age 3, which i genuinely think was on the level, or even above, the first movie. Really shows what a sequel is meant to be imo.

I'm honored to be immortalized in one of your videos. Your calm take helped me realize I was probably too invested in a movie made specifically for children. I'd give it a 2/10 but I was more passionate about my hatred thanks to the love I have for the first two movies. Knowing what it *could* have been made it so I didn't really give Kung-Fu panda a fair rating like you decided to in this video. I didn't know Kung-Fu Panda 4 had a new director, I am now much more excited!

It's funny, I'll see people post video essays on why this movie is the best, others posting that it's the worst. It all just proves to me that my tried and tested method of "did I enjoy watching this movie?" is always gonna be more reliable than any of the 2 dozen video essays I might see. And yes, I did enjoy watching Kung Fu Panda 3.

I just left a comment on your kfp2 video and I feel like it applies to here too. Neither one of these movies are average. Are they as good as the first one, not really, but they definitely are above 5s imo. The thing is when you have a character like po, especially in a family movie sense, you can’t go too serious without it feeling like too much of a departure of the source. Look at the criticism to the game series jak and daxter for instance, jak changed too much and many people feel like he lost his identity. I feel like po is extremely consistent in these movies and that’s the most important thing cause he is the main character

I find it hard understanding the people who defend this movie

I can agree 2 is slightly overrated and 3 overall as a movie is a more creative and has a better storyline, however 3 is a pretty solid film but their biggest issue lies with the serious lack of development in motivation for their villain, Kai had probably the best design and concept out of any villain yet but it was wasted on petty reasoning and an inconsistent tone for the character.

Yeah. Pretty much sums up my feelings about the movie : it has some genuinely great elements that are just never developed or completely ruined by the end, and is by far the weakest of the bunch. Cautiously optimistic for 4 tho.
