KTM 950 Adventure Full Walkaround and Build Details

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Talking through my 950 Adventure, which has now reached the end of its life. I am in the process of building a 990 Adventure into something similar, and wanted to document some of the things done to the bike. I tried to make it quick, but obviously failed at that!

    Roll it in the corner of the garage and wait until you're ready to put it back to its full potential. The day will come when you can no longer make use of it the way you have but you'll want to spend some time with it. Then it'll be like therapy putting it back to it's old glory and passing on a piece of history to someone else. The stories that you'll tell along the way will be priceless

    Yes, this had definitely crossed my mind. Unfortunately I don't have the space or money to do that and buy another bike, so I did end up buying a 990 and swapping all of my parts over to that bike, and offsetting cost by selling parts. It feels nearly the same, and even if it looks a little different, it lets me continue my adventure with an early LC8 bike. Like you said, there will always be one of these in my garage.

    Very interesting and informative video for an off-road Lc8 owner! 👍 Good luck with your 990, looking forward to your next Lc8 video.

    @@BackHurtsBad It's pretty unlikely I'll tear this down any time soon, to be honest. Based on operating symptoms, and that the valve shims never really changed, it probably needs valve seals, pistons, and rings. I'm sure the cylinders are glazed, but nothing makes me think it has the plating chipping issue some Nikasil bores have.

    I'm glad I'm one of those people that always asked for this too many times hahaha. And it turned out way longer (in a good way) and better than expected. This has to be the perfect walkaround I've ever seen. Lots of info, and of course, a piece of history for yourself that'll be here for a long time to remember in the years to come. What a beast ! I just sold my big Africa Twin 750 and hope some day to get my hands on a crisp 950 or 990, but for now, I want to try something small to get my skills better and enjoy the pleasures of a bike I can easily pick up, even though I'm 6'5, a small bike is a breath of fresh air. Thank you Jordan !!!!

    Thank you so much and I will check it out. Good luck on the new 990. I love my 950, there are plenty out there with very low miles. You may want to stick with the same. My total rebuild for my motor was $2000 all parts included. It all depends what yours needs.

    Great walk around. I have a question about the Brembo clutch master cylinder. Do you have a part number for the unit you are using? My old unit is leaking after many rebuilds. Who did you buy from etc. Thanks again

    I don't have a part number, but I believe it was from a 2017+ KTM 450 xcf. Any of the usual parts houses should be able to get it; I usually get stuff from rocky mountain atvmc.

    You say it’s cheaper to buy a new bike, but it wouldn’t be a 950. The carbs are better than fuel injection on the 990, the later bikes (1090, etc) aren’t close to being as capable of these and it keeps a classic on the road… me, mines got 80k miles on the clock and I’m stripping it down to rebuild it ground-up, as I’ll never get rid of it until i can no longer buy parts.

  • @gearheadE30

    @gearheadE30

    True, the newer bikes are not nearly as analog as the 950 is. I replaced the 950 with a 990 so still very similar. I haven't gotten the throttle response to be quite as natural as the 950 was, but I am finding that I actually prefer the fuel injection most of the time. I was kind of expecting I would be putting my carbs on the 990 but that seems pretty unlikely now.
