KTM 790 Adventure Windscreen Review (Givi Airflow)

Ойын-сауық

KTM 790 Adventure | The Givi Airflow Windscreen is a motorcycle windscreen that is designed to provide riders with a comfortable riding experience. Featuring a unique airflow system that allows riders to adjust the amount of air that flows through the windscreen, its been my windscreen of choice. Somehow, the 790 Adventure R breaks the screen! - Frank

Well Frank, I feel your pain on the Givi screen. I purchased one for the 2021 Vstrom 650 and had exactly the same results as you. I'm 6 foot and as I raised the screen higher it became scarier. It wobbled and shook I thought it was going to depart the bike. I tried mirror extenders and different mirrors with not much help. I was getting the blast coming off the nose cone of the bike just like you. Had I kept the bike I would have played with making air deflectors that mounted to the nose cone. But I moved on. On the V1000's Givi screens they extend the lower base so the air off the front is redirected. The V1000 guys love the airflow. I felt like I waisted $200 bucks. Excellent review of the screen.

I've never had any buffeting issues with stock screens on my bikes. I can't bring myself to use one of those big screens. I guess I'm just an old school dirt bike. Stock mirrors and just big mirrors in general cause a lot of wind noise and buffeting issues. Good info Frank. The KTM fans will be thankful 😁

Hello Greg, your 1000 had AMAZING wind protection. I rode across the plains states on a VStrom 1000, in literal freezing weather at time. The Vstrom is an ideal touring ADV bike with that protection. If you do come to Team Orange, you are going to need to adjust! - Frank

Different bike and shield etc. But on my bike I found out the lowest setting directed more wind off of me. Counter to the rational thought processes. BUT the most noticeable reduction in wind turbulence came without mirrors. I had taken the factory off to install aftermarket and I was interrupted to run to the store for my wife. I was amazed the mirrors off made such a huge difference.

Hello Dave, I have tried the mirror removal, just for testing. It has been reported by others as an issue. For me, there was no noticeable difference. I am no engineer, but I still feel confident that the air is com up UP from the fairings, triple tree. It seems like a design flaw to me. A bike like a DR650 has less air hitting the rider and it has no fairings. It's as though the actual design of the front end was to push air at the rifer. - Frank

Thank you for making this kind of video. This is valuable information. I wish motorcycle manufacturers would spend more time focusing on aerodynamics. On another note, the terrain you are riding through sure is beautiful.

Hello Greg, in my experience KTM seems to think this a wind tunnel for testing is worth the expense. I need to try the new fairing version; I have heard its much better. The stock screen is still bad, but they do not have the air coming up at you as badly. - Frank

92 degrees. Just a nice moderate day. Too bad that the screen didn't work on the 790. Sound like from your analysis that there won't be a screen that really gets it. Every bike, it seems needs its own particular solution. Thanks for the testing an review.

Thanks for the nice video! Very informative! 👍 It is still surprising that motorcycle manufacturers are unable to make proper screens. Don't they have the opportunity to test this in a wind tunnel??🤔

I have the 790 Adv also with the airflow. I am good with the screen and find that it is best in the lowest position with 1 1/2 inch cut off the top. I am 5' 8" and can see well over the top which is good on and off road. As you point out the aerodynamics of the fairing are so so. One thing I did that removed a lot of dirty air was to remove the flags on the Barkbusters hand guards I installed and just run with the aluminum frames for protection. The difference was way more than I would have imagined. I also have aftermarket mirrors that I rotate as far back and down and it helps somewhat.

Change the mirrors, standard cause buffeting. The magic is to place a clip on windscreen on top of standard windscreen and angle it like a car spoiler. THIS WORKS !

When I bought my ‘21 790S it had a tall Puig touring screen (with spoiler) on that wobbled like crazy over 60mph. I suspected bad aerodynamics and that single mounting point. I replaced it with an MRA touring screen (without spoiler) and have been really happy with it. The mounting is far more solid and supportive than the KTM solution. I can’t say I’ve experienced any worse buffeting than other bikes I’ve owned, perhaps I’m ‘the exception that proves the rule’ 😂. I might remove the winglets at some point just to see if there’s any difference in the airflow, but overall I’m really happy with it as it is.

I have same bike and year. Im going through the process of trying different Givi screens. I bought the airflow and it gives me low frequency buffeting on my helmet. Yes it shakes the same so not great. I added a wind spoiler to the bottom section only and it became ok. I’m going to try the givi 7710 d today and combine with the wind spoiler and see how it goes.

Hello Matt, I feel the airflow issues on the 390 are due to keeping a similar fairing, opening at the triple clamp design of the 790. Its (IMHO) far worse, on the 790. - Frank

I watched reviews, I bought the airflow for my 890R.........Damn, screwed again by reviews. Im 6 foot tall, with the screen lowered all the way Im still looking right thru the screen. It sucks, it is near impossible to look around it, cant look over it at all. I ended up taking the top half off and sliding it in place upside down........better but still sucks. I will put on the same add on flipper screen I had on the OEM shield............once again I blew 200 bucks out my a$$ on something I cant much use. KZread reviews sold me on more junk. If you think, "this GIVI screen doesnt look like it belongs on an 890R?" You would be right, its a touring bike piece on an ADV bike.

  • @bradsanders6954

Im not sure where this terrible aerodynamics idea on the 890 is coming from, Ive never had buffeting in 18,000 miles on my 890R. I just wanted more coverage for cold weather so I got the Airflow. I cant look thru screens, the airflow isnt for me. The lower part is ok and doesnt work bad by itself. I thought about cutting 4" off the upper part to try to make it work. I get no shaking of the airflow screen, it makes a big calm air pocket, but I cant be looking thru it, makes me crazy. Most of your finding are total opposite of mine. Oddly, with the screen as low as it goes, on my 890, the airflow is blowing the windstream about 8" over the top of my helmet. Exactly the opposite of what you found. A peak on helmet is no problem, no shaking of the screen. But I hate the screen. Dont want to look thru any screen.

Hello Zero, first, that you for the comment and feedback. Folks have opinions, and I appreciate you sharing yours. I did my very best in this video, as I do in all my windscreen videos, to show exactly where the air is hitting me. I feel this shows you how effective the screen is for me. Riders vary in width and height, and this means a screen or one, that is ideal for them, may not work well for others. I am very pleased with Givi as a company. IMHO they offer great products, at great prices. I am going to link two Givi reviews here, including one for my favorite 390 Adventure windscreen, the Givi Airflow. I respect your opinion, and again thank you for commenting. - Frank kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaB2mLWnfqnZc7Q.htmlsi=-iBYXYCDZ12Jy4eb kzread.info/dash/bejne/i3ppl8eYnKjYp6w.htmlsi=1MT2SLy88LZe8o7A

Zerosecta, you should probably go back to usually not commenting if you're going to respond like that. Didn't have the same results as the OP? Ok, better for you than him. How about giving some stats on what bike you're on or your overall size and what conditions you're riding in. How about you try to make your positive experience beneficial to the rest of us.? The OP reviewed VERY specific conditions. Saying only that it worked great for you with nothing behind that statement, and then calling the OP's review "nonsense", well, makes your comment nonsense.
