KSP: The ULTIMATE Space Shuttle - 100% Reusable!

Ойындар

Today, I decided to showcase the new volumetric clouds in KSP thanks to BlackRack's amazing works! And the vehicle to carry out such a showcase will be a fully-reusable space shuttle, and yes, it's possible to recover ALL stages - no quicksaving or quickloading necessary! All it takes is a creative flight profile...

    You can use (for more conventional rockets) a mammoth engine and landing legs to build a rocket that can be fully recovered with a normal ascent profile - your apoapsis only needs to be about 80km. Either use your upper stage to get into orbit then switch (the booster might be in the atmosphere but it still works), or sometimes your mammoth engine stage works like an SSTO for some reason.

  • @Freak80MC

    @Freak80MC

    Жыл бұрын

    This is how I make fully recovered rockets in my career save. I switch to the first stage once the second stage is in orbit. Only issue is that I can't recover it 100%, only about 70%

  • @throwback19841

    @throwback19841

    Жыл бұрын

    i do this too, but use a brutal first stage than can get the whole lot into orbit, not just a high sub orbital trajectory. I can then separate the payloads and deorbit the first stage separately without losing it. I get about 98% of the first stage back, and 100% of the second stage by landing it aerodynamically. Once you get the hang of your de-orbit burn/landing, it gets real easy. Just lots of trial and error to work out how much burn you need to do at 80km altitude, and at what relative position to the KSP. I find if I burn from 80km down to 35km with the apsis over the next spit of mainland over the KSP, aero braking brings the whole first stage down right on the ksp, chutes deploy and then a quick landing burn with normal (anti-normal?) hold to keep it upright with hot gas thrusters to help. PRetty bulletproof once you get the profile. Secret is to perfect your "falcon9" and then dont mess with its design while you perfect its landing procedures!

The big difference however is that you have something about you that kept me on this channel for almost over 2 years now. The combination of edited conscice video material interspliced with ramble commentary creates a mixture of feelings that I can only describe as "watching both a stream but in youtube video length". I hope you get a big boost out of KSP 2 Hype but I'm almost certain you will. Until then life goes on and I'll be watching the next record idea ramble video when it releases! You will also see a %, 50 by default. click the plus untl it says 100. Now when you burn at t-0 seconds, the burn will be done properly!

    You can switch between vessels in atmosphere as long as they are within simulation range using "[" and "]". Vessels do not disappear unless they go below 25 km. Here is how to do a fully recoverable 3 stage launch (2 lift stages, 3rd stage is the payload or interplanetary vehicle): 1) detach first stage at about 30 km altitude with a apoapsis of 60 km+ 2) get second stage into orbit before first stage falls below 25 km 3) switch to lower stage and land it 4) switch to orbital vehicle and dethatch second stage, deorbit and land that 5) complete mission with 3rd stage I have a lift vehicle that can get a 500 ton payload to orbit, and fully recover both the first and second stage. I usually splash them down near the ksc for 98% cost recovery. They don't have aerodynamic control surfaces, so I just do a boost back burn on first stage and then control decent with air brakes on second stage.

    Wow those volumetric clouds are beautiful. Funny how I didn’t really notice the lack of clouds until seeing videos like this. Now the vanilla version is just disturbing to my eyes haha.

    Never liked littering in KSP and been using recoverable booster systems for 5 years now. I have two pilots. Before separation, I switch control to the ship that I use to push for stable orbit after the separation. Then I switch back to booster rocket craft before it re-enters the atmosphere (and disappears), land, and recover. Then jump back into the ship in orbit. Of course, my ships are no were as majestic as these, since mine have around 20-50 parachutes.
