I bought the exact same model (KSGER) more than one year before and it's work wonderfully. Before i own an 200$ Weller, after some time i see on google an Hakko T12 compared to this one and i thought to bought one. After bought this one, surprise... it was the best soldering station do i ever had, and believe me guys, the KSGER outperforms Weller in anyway. I use it like 2 to 3 time at week, from the smallest job to the biggest 8 gauge joint's and till now it work's like a charm, no issue's yet. By the way, mine heat from 0 to 330 c° in 11-12 seconds.

Love these stations! I have a similar one and it works great.

I bought one about 6 months ago and its pretty much my daily driver. The only time I have had issues is when trying to add leaded solder to non leaded solder and trying to wick the solder off of a large ground plane such as I do when replacing HDMI re-timer chips on XBOX consoles. I usually have to get out my old school Radio Shack iron for that. The joys of working on a tiny budget! LOL

I have been very happy with my KSGER, but I know some people had issues as they received different versions.

At that price and quality it's a really good choice. I'v got the same station just a version with LED display, not the fancy OLED stuff. Best part of it is that you can use genuine T12 or rather the newer T15 tips on it. Stay safe.

The Chinese "KSGER" tips do seem to work just fine, I have not so far seen any need to buy original tips for hobby use, but it's great to know I have that option.

I absolutely love the T12 design ... just the tip gets hot ... so you can weave it down through a bunch of wiring to solder a point and not melt the plastic on the other wires.. It heats quick... you can change tips and not have to wait for the tip to cool down before you can touch it...with this model you can set sleep time , how long the boost range is on , and the power difference on boost.. Ill never go back to a finger burning, wire melting, waiting forever to heat up , soldering iron again... except for a backup... but at the price of these things i might buy another one for a backup..

Thanks for your work. XT 90 with 10 gauge wire and non lead solder. Will this take care of that or should I get a solder gun for such large connection.?

Thanks for the follow-up! Most reviewers don't do this even for equipment that they actually use. I'm likely to purchase a T12 clone, eventually, but am disappointed that KSGER is not trying harder to improve their brand; the quality control on these units seems non-existent and the many versions of hardware *and* software is extremely confusing to consumers.

First station I bought. And I'm not going to replace it any time soon.

I use my trusty 3 in 1 solder, hot air and no frills power supply Its big, ugly and heats up in similar time. I sometimes only make one joint - but its fast enough that an impulse "blob" is no trouble. ... I recently made a sawblade holder from a length of copper pipe and two thick brass endstops which I soldered in place with the iron, just to see if it would (it did!!) and if I say so myself it made a lovely job and took no time at all, so no problem with thermal mass. I have two ts80s (long story) which are perfectly serviceable (if you don't mind the qc3 fandango) - but the tips are expensive. The solder station uses oldstyle iron /copper sleeve type bits which cost a few pennies each, cheap enough to file a new shape tip or I've started drilling a 1.5mm hole in the face to act as a reservoir, it makes removing and reflowing components so easy, when you can charge the tip with solder and then make two or three tacks without needing three hands to hold the part, the component and the solder. And while the iron is light the unit is massive enough that there's no danger of dragging it off the bench.

I paid more for my Weller and it has no automatic temperature control at all. I am interested in this but may opt for a station with hot air as well.

I watched both of your videos and liked them a lot. DID you made the modifictions about grounding the unit and cutting a small piece of one of the heatsinks?

Looks like I've seen my next budget soldering iron? Also just bought Aneng 8009 multimeter based on your recommendation, so far it's a great little meter that is so much better than the sub $10 ones I've been working with up to now - thank you

I have this too T12 but is the more modular version more durable, the one with separate power supply (which you need a power plug for in addition)? The KSGER T12 (there are rebranded ones but less choices on form factor, the Quicko which is twice as cheap as the KSGER and Quecoo which seems to be more expensive than the KSGER. Both don't have elegant lettering and not as cool sounding as KSGER, though and I think only comes in the small form factor, modular which is good but maybe not for stacking). The KSGER T12 is my other and new favorite tool now (I just got it some days ago), aside from digital caliper, all metal (first all metal), digital caliper by General. God bless, Rev. 21:4

I had a friend give me a old station that had a led bar and a pot control and I can not find the name on the net. The tag was mostly gone but it did have a T on it it could of been a Tenma maybe.... Needless to say it did not work, BUT it had this big juicy transformer that had a 24 volt AC tap on it, a good case, corde, holder just the control board was shot. I think it was a mist blue not sure ( I painted it.. ). It reminded me of the old Craftsman one made by Weller I think. It was a 1970/80 station of that time... So I bought a 24 Volt AC to 24 volt dc power supply for $10 bucks and one of thoses 3 digit display with a iron T12 kit for $8 bucks all from eBay and it uses the standard T12 tips. I slapped it all together and tested it and it works great. On the bench... Lol Seeing how the main cover was missing from the case (old glue) I took some plastic sheeting I use for modeling and made a new plate with the new hole drilled in it. This thing is the best Iron I have ever had, it heats up in 10 sec's (sorry no beep) it flashes when ready. The heat displacement is not to bad as long as the ground plain is not 1/2 of the board... Lol It works on 24 and 12 volts but I use it at 24 volts suplly, the recovery is 10 times better than at 12 volts. I have 2 of the fancy stations and a hot air combo station, I just like this one better... Lol Thanks for the update video and your hard work to keep us entertained... :-) LLAP

I have it too, but to be honest I was expecting a significant improvement over the 936-style stations. I still it difficult to work with lead-free solder or pins going to large copper planes (well, not difficult, but I have to put it in boost mode).

For those you need the heaviest tip you can get to have more thermal mass too, but this small iron is really not meant for those large planes. You could apply extra heat to the copper fill with a hot air station to get going better.

You can always flip the power button so that it is in the correct orientation. Its clipped in, so you have to carefully release the clips, flip it, and clip it back in. I did that with mine

What type of soldering do you do? I service old audio equipment with thru-hole and point-to-point, tube sockets etc. which is probably harder on tip plating than SMD, new PCBs would be. Thinking of replacing my old Weller with a T12 type iron. I want something that will hold up well. Thanks.

bought one just recently and I have to say their production quality insurrance is prolly the worst I've ever experienced on any product, makes me a bit scared to use it. But it works great after I had fixed several of problems, such as my initial handle being broken and the second one have a cotton cord inside....

I’d like to get one because it uses direct heat T12 tips, but the lack of QA is really disturbing. The lack of a quality stand also bothers me.

Enjoying your videos for a while, Thank You. . . I am on a new technology (inexpensive) solder station update. Been using Weller irons and mid level stations for decades. Never been too happy with Weller but gets the job done. So August 2021 I have ordered Sequre SQ-001 - KSGER 3.1s - and a cheaper T12A Kit (KSGER Chinese Copy) from ebay USA vendor while I wait for China shipping and delivery of Sequre and KSGER. I hope T12 technology is superior. . .

Is it need to make earth conection for this soldering st?

I saw this exact one on Amazon but it says it is a "DIY kit". What do they mean by that?

Yes, in this type the heating element is in the replaceable tip.

do you still like this? i need a soldering iron. i haven't used mine in 4 months and someone decided to take my "soldering box" and threw it away..

How did you touch the capacitors safely? Did you use a screwdriver to discharge them? Excellent vid by the way!

No they don't hold their charge long

Still rocking my Hakko FX888 (which I love) but I think I'll pick up one of these as a backup.

Hakko T15 tips should work everywhere a T12 is called for.

The opto isolator is not the only thing bridging the gap! The isolation between mains and the low voltage side is defeated by the raw aluminium heat sink that clearly jumpers right over one of the slots! No way does this meet the minimum safety standards (by UK/EU standards at least). I just subscribed. You have some interesting videos it looks like. Nothing wrong with being an amateur, but please be careful when certifying something as good/safe/whatever if you may not know what you’re talking about. It’s not the only problem with this station either (safety wise).

I have so many of those harbor freight screwdrivers from free coupons 🤣 Love the vids! I just bought one of these stations. Do hakko tips work in them? If so which ones?

Hi thank you for the review, I am a fan of your channel. May I ask a question? I bought the KSGER T12 v 2.1 but noticed that at 300 degree C it doesn't melt the solder on the tip. I tried different tips and no success. It works at 340 degree C. Thnx

I didn’t like the plastic handle, I got a nice aluminium handle which is much nicer to use, I did reviews on the unit and the handle when I got mine.

can i use T-15 hakko tips with this? the ends look the same. also can i use a hakko handle/wire with this? are the connectors the same at the device?

No you must use the T-12

Aluminium case is nice but it Is not grounded. 🤔 So if you will have bad day be aware. Otherwise i love this soldering station

It is OK for the price. But an Ersa it is not. Takes some time to heat up and the temperature seems to be unstable. Even when the station says it has heated up I add at least 30 seconds before using it. The handle is also not very ergonomic. But considering the price it is fine.

Would this be good for modding xbox 360s?

I own one with the quicko brand which use external power supply too (quicko 942). the user interface is simpler than KSGER without individual tip profile and some other features, but I find it more convenient for me out of the box. the good is, it can be powered up using lipo pack when you need to. 😉

@@radius.indrawan AFAIK they are pretty much the same inside so you can just flash your favourite firmware on it. There are different ones available.

The tip in the video has lasted 18 months

Aaand here we go again. Another video saying so great things about the mains/secondary separation and safety of this unit, looking at the bottom of the board... while completely disregarding the huge metal heatsink on the topside, going straight over that "separation" gap! The mains side of that heatsink is resting ON THE TRACE right next to the big mains capacitor! Your secondary side heatsink is separated from rectified mains by the solder mask on that trace! A very well-known snag in this unit by now. I have the same issue and I just pulled the heatsink off, ground some of the metal off and added some kapton tape underneath too. Otherwise a great unit. Too bad the Chinesium devices do this all the time. They completely ruin an otherwise nice device by some horrible blunder which would never pass any western safety checks.

You can get the front modules as replacement parts for very cheap at least, probably also the power modules. It's quite serviceable.

I've never soldered anything, but I'm here anyway

My unit failed in two ways. 1st the sensor stopped working. I had to push the button after it went to sleep. I did that for a few days then i had the iron just die. I tried to see what happened and there was an arch out of the handle at the strain relief. then an error message. I cycled power and it came back but the tip became very hot and in seconds was glowing Cherry Red. I shut the unit off. I ordered a new all metal handle. I put the new handle on the unit but it also took off and Glowed Cherry Red. I contacted AliExpress where i ordered the unit from. I wanted to buy the latest version so i searched for 3.1v and that is what i ordered. However the only handle they offered was the cheap all black plastic handle. It was the strain relief of the cheap handle that failed. They asked me for photos of the tips with the blue burn marks. Then after several weeks they asked for a video of the handle in bright red. then they wanted me to agree not bug them anymore if they sent a new controller. Finally just today i got a tracking number but it does not show any package shipped yet. I initially liked the KSGER unit for sure it was smart and fast and worked great until the handle shorted out. If this new controller does not repair the unit i will need to find a source to have it repaired. Maybe you would be willing to take that task on for me and video the diagnosis and repair???? Your 17 Sec to 350°C is a a little un-real-life. This 17 Sec also include the (rather sluggish) MCU boot time. On a normal working day your iron will be ON and at "parking position" at 150°C or. From there to 350°C it takes (my guess) 3 Sec or so. The hand piece is called 9501 (I would buy the same, because there are stands for it,

How is the time "un-real-life"? If a person walked up to their work area, sat down to solder a joint and turned on the unit from a powered down off then the 17 second time frame from off and cold would be correct. An initial from a totally cold powered down to ready to solder time of 17 seconds is pretty impressive for such an inexpensive piece of equipment.

I assumed TVS diode can prevent ESD,but I dont know how to use it.Ppl said a battery power suplied solder station has no ESD issues.The cheap PSU caused ESD issues.

@@shine9001 Sorry what is the point? A TVS Diode connected where? People say a battery powered soldering station has no ESD? But those station are very low wattage. In order to work fixing cellphone you will need 70 watts on fine tips. I wish I can afford Hakko station.

They need to have a earth ground on them..

i have this station and i'm unhappy, hakko 888d it's more reliable, more heat stability etc... mt next station is original JBC, for professional use this chinese station is useless..
