    so glad to know it's not just me that solders a multi core connector on both ends, before remembering that I needed the housings on the cable first and having to undo one side. if that is a 25 pin or more connector it's generally time to call it a night...

    Yep me too! I'm also great at wiring D25 solder connectors back to front! :( I cheered the day when IDC connectors became available! LOL

    I'm not sure about this specific variant of the many clone T12 controllers, but the centre pin of the 3 pin supply connector is usually intended for connection to mains ground. The ground then connects via a pcb track and pin on the 5pin connector, and handle lead, to the outer of the iron tip. This grounds the tip's exposed metalwork for safety.

    If I saw the schematic on banggood for one of those kits correctly, the motion switch they were showing there was a mercury switch. Also, in the handle itself, it's not a bad idea to put epoxy or something like it over the soldering joints. They are pretty close together and if your soldering skills aren't fantastic, you could create arc bridges.

    Actually a loaded spring rather than mercury.

    The yellow wire is case ground (Earth).It is connected on the PCB to connector pin E (next to the right to the key notch (component side). Clockwise next pin is +heater, next + thermocouple, next heater -, thermocouple -

    I think the yellow on the power connector is possibly a earth ground

    The thermal capacity of the Hakko 936 clone will improve a lot by switching to a thicker tip.

    I ordered one of these kits. I plan on mounting it inside an old dewalt 20v battery charger so that I can run it off a dewalt battery. Completely mobile soldering station

    That should work a treat! I ran this off of just 12 volts, and it still heated up fine, so you will lose heat capacity as the battery drains, but it will still get up to temperature.

    Is the T12 temperature controller circuit similar to an original HAKKO soldering station ? If yes, then which HAKKO model does it replicate ?

    on another note, with the ball bearing, isn't that a tilt sensor as opposed to vibration, so it won't heat up facing the wrong way?

  • @MobiusHorizons

    Appears to be vibration. One of the decimals on the display pulses on every time you shake it. I'm pretty sure it would wake up if you just bumped the table, but i'm not 100% sure.

    maybe this will sound stupid, but, can this controller drive a clone 936 handle too? the aviation plug looks alike between the two..

    +Radius Indrawan It cannot. I wondered the same thing. I can't remember off-hand if the plug had more pins, or if was just a different size, but it didn't match up.

    MobiusHorizons after digging further, yes, apparently 936&T12 are using different connector. so both are meant to be not interchangeable each other. i wonder if it is hackable somehow.. :)

    Get a larger chisel tip for the iron you’re using now and you’d be in MUCH better shape.

    Prompt, in the handle of the soldering iron there is no more capacitor, as in the previous sets?

  • @MobiusHorizons

    @MobiusHorizons

    There was no capacitor on this set. I hadn't seen one in other sets online. What would that be for?

  • @gavachkin

    @gavachkin

    Paul Martin In older versions of the soldering station, the capacitor in the handle served as a temperature stabilizer. Without it, it was difficult to calibrate the temperature. It's good that the design was changed, this lack was removed.

    Thanks for the information. I haven't tried calibrating it yet, since I only just got a thermocouple, and I haven't gotten the amplifier hooked up yet. It is possible it will be hard to calibrate even so. I hope to put up a follow-up to this video in the coming week, so I will probably mention this. Thanks.

    P00: restore the default parameters (0 or 1, the default value of 0,0 for the recovery, 1 for the recovery)P01: op amp gain (200 to 350 times, step 1, default 230)P02: Operational amplifier offset voltage (0 ~ 250mV, step 2, the default value of 100, refers to the tip to keep the room temperature operational amplifier inherent output voltage, according to my measurement this voltage varies greatly with temperature, different magnification Not the same, the higher the magnification, if you do not measure, please keep the default value)P03: thermocouple ℃ / mV data (30 ~ 50, step 1, the default value of 41, refers to the thermocouple need to temperature how much voltage was increased by 1mV, according to the type of thermocouple self-calculation, if you do not understand, please keep Defaults)P04: temperature adjustment step (0,1,2,5,10 degrees optional, 0 can lock the soldering iron temperature)P05: sleep time (how long does not move into sleep) (0 ~ 60 minutes, step 1, 0 is to disable the sleep function)P06: Shutdown time (0 ~ 180 minutes, 0 ~ 30 step into the steps of 1,30 ~ 180 step 10, 0 is disabled shutdown function)P07: temperature correction (+20 degrees, step 1) (due to NTC resistance in the chassis, the soldering station heat will lead to the detection of NTC temperature higher than room temperature, resulting in high temperature compensation of the thermocouple, soldering iron temperature is not accurate, or other If you set the other parameters are set to the correct value of the temperature is still high or low, you can use this parameter correction.For example, to detect the displayed soldering iron temperature is 20 degrees higher than the actual value of this parameter will be set to 20)P08: wake mode (0,1, 0 in the shutdown mode can be rotated in the encoder can shake the handle to wake up, 1 can only rotate the encoder wake up (Note: press the encoder can not wake up, can only rotate) )P09: temperature increase mode to increase the temperature to adjustable (20 degrees to 100 degrees adjustable, adjust the pace of 10 degrees)P10: temperature to increase the duration to adjustable (adjustment range of 10 seconds to 250 seconds, adjust the step 5 seconds)P11: Parameter setting mode Auto save parameter and return to heating mode Function to active time adjustable (range 4 seconds to 60 seconds)
