Practically every QFC and Safeway in the state is being sold to C&S wholesale. There are a few exceptions like the QFC at the U-Village. Which will remain under Kroger ownership.

Wouldn't things be less expensive because of ease of distribution? Or am I thinking too positive for an internet comment section :)?

I learned in high school monopolies are not allowed. Well I sure thought I learned that back in the early 1960s. Times have changed so much.

Very limited selection of grociery stores already after this there will be even less.

Actually the opposite - all these store are owned by Kroger or Safeway/Albertsons - if the meger happens there will be a third player.

I would like to see a massive expansion of foreign grocery stores from south of the border and Asia as well as expand India, Thai, bring them on. Cut out the traditional U.S. poor quality over priced, over packaged landfill consuming U.S. chains.

If a grocery store is closed... wouldn't just another grocery store take its place...?

they'd first try to sell the stores to another grocery operator since they'd get more money and would be cheaper.

@@omgitsjulian when Kroger bought qfc they claimed nothing would change. Well things did change, a lot. I shop mostly at Costco but their selection is rather narrow. There are specific items I shop for at either Safeway or qfc, unfortunately they don’t overlap on certain items I buy so I have to go to both. Understand with this merger efficiency will increase and that will lead to higher corporate profits. Then after about 2 years prices will start to rise and either you drive a lot longer to get your groceries or you will pay more. Consumers don’t win in this game.

@@omgitsjulian Depends, usually if it's a smaller competitor, you'll see higher prices because of something called monopsony - the larger buyers get deals from wholesalers that the smaller competitor won't get, or the smaller stores won't be able to purchase some items that the bigger competitors stock. So less choice, higher prices, and eventually the smaller competitor is SOL. In this case it looks like C&S (Piggly Wiggly) is buying all the stores and they do their own wholesaling, so who knows...

@@pl9070 Thanks for this. First time hearing about Piggly Wiggly. It looks interesting. Change is hard, and maybe this is a good thing. I personally rarely (rarely) go to the super market, but would for sure check out PW if it happens. Thanks for the heads-up!
