I was a little concerned when she indicated that she would have to replace graham crackers with "digestive biscuits" WTF is that? LOL. Crazy ass name (I mean, I presume they are for special dietary/nutritional needs but stuff like that over here in the US is rarely palatable!!!). Maybe they are comparable.. It's like when someone replaces a cheesecake crust with something other than a graham cracker crust. Still good, but not quite the same to me. They seemed to love it nonetheless.

"isn't it too burnt to eat" when I roast marshmallows I let the outside get burnt and crunchy. Then you can pull just the burnt outsides off and they keep their shape and the inside stays on the stick and is all gooey. Then you either make a smore with the insides or eat the burnt part and stick the gooey insides back in the fire and do it again.

For a grilled cheese fundraiser at work, I came up with a s'mores grilled cheese made with slices of brioche that are buttered and dredged in graham cracker crumbs. The filling inside is nutella w/a few graham cracker crumbs sprinkled on top, mascarpone, and marshmallow Fluff that has been melted/slightly charred w/a kitchen torch. They were the most popular of the 3 dessert grilled cheese sandwiches I made.

My family made regular s'mores, but our favorite alternate way was to stuff a sugar cone with chocolate, set in in a hole on a square grate, and then put toasted marshmallows in them. The chocolate coats the inside of the cone when you shove the marshmallows in, and it's fantastic. Banana Boats are also really good, you cut open a banana down the middle still in the peel,, stuff with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, Peanut Butter, etc., and then you just wrap it in tinfoil and toss it on the coals. The peel acts almost like a bowl when you pry it open to eat it!

That's a good idea! It's also appropriate because the Girl Scouts literally invented s'mores. The Girl Scouts of America were founded just before WW1, and took off in popularity after that. When the war ended, there were a lot of army surplus supplies, including Hershey bars, which were included in the soldiers' food rations. The soldiers came back with a taste for Hershey bars and introduced them to their families; there was a surplus of Hershey bars, plus they were affordable, so the Girl Scout troops bought them as part of their food supply for campouts. That's why the classic Girl Scout style s'more is made with chocolate from the regular Hershey bar, although more modern recipes suggest using Reese's peanut butter cups, Nutella, or other kinds of chocolate.

This gave me flashbacks to more than 20 years back, when me and my best friend - still teenagers living in a German city - wanted to try this at home. we had never even gone camping before and we just used a candle. suddenly my friend's marshmallow sported an 8 inch flame. that in my mom's tiny urban apartment too. she stared at it wide eyed and yelled 'It's burning! It's burning!'. while I in turn yelled 'To the bathroom! To the bathroom!' which in my mind was the most fire secure room in the flat. I'll never forget the image of her holding out her marshmallow torch in front of her while she rushed to the bathroom sink. It was a hysterical scene. All went well btw. ;) Thank you, grandma OK for bringing back these lovely memories.

This channel is great all the time, but especially during the (hopefully) last of the COVID lockdowns where I live. One tip: If you enjoy S'mores try banana boats too. 1) leaving the peel on, cut a shallow wedge down the length of a banana 2) lift back that part of the peel and underlying fruit 3) fill the wedge space with (mini or chopped) marshmallows and chocolate chips (and optional chopped nuts) 4) fold the cut part and peel back into place (well, on top of the other fillings since it will no longer go in place) 5) wrap it in foil 6) tuck it into the embers of a campfire for a few minutes 7) carefully remove it from the fire with tongs or similar tool 8) let cool 9) unwrap and eat with a spoon. Yum!

This may be my fave Grandma video 🥺 I had a s'mores campfire for my high school graduation party. My mom, being from NYC, had never had one. The first s'more I made I gave to my mom. I'd gone back to my friends to finally make one for me when I hear my mom call out and ask for another one. She was IN LOVE. To the point where she asked for the next two I made and I hadn't had any yet 😅 Luckily my friend realized it and made one for me. Watching you guys have s'mores brought back the best memories for me. Thank you 🥰

So they are an odd yet cute mix of cultural practices. Just in case anyone was wondering if there was any other way you could make s’mores without using a campfire you can always take a plate and put the gram cracker then chocolate then marshmallow then the other gram cracker like a sandwich on the plate then put it in the microwave for 5-10 seconds don’t put it in for anything higher or else it will burn then take it out and then you have a s’more hope this is useful to anyone wanting to make a s’more ☺️

The gas stove burner set to about 1/2" flame is capable of toasting the marshmallow to an utterly delicious golden brown. Microwave method is convenient AF, especially if you push chocolate drops into the middle of the marshmallow. Both are great, with or without the Graham cracker. A campfire, with friends, is most satisfying.

I like roasting starbursts when we go camping! They get kind of crunchy on the outside & gooey on the inside. So good! Also, if you want to make s'mores in bulk or don't have access to a campfire, you can lay out graham crackers on a baking sheet, put a marshmallow on top of each cracker, & then toast them in the oven. Then when the marshmallows are golden brown, you just the tray out & add the chocolate & other cracker!
