I'm impressed you asked "Why does it taste like fermented stingray?". As stingray ferments it produces ammonia, and salted licorice is salted with ammonium chloride (generally used as a fertilizer). Salted licorice is my favorite candy and tragically there is nowhere I can buy it in my country. I will shed a tear for licorice discarded after shooting this video.

Swede here. The licorice that is "hollow" in Gott & Blandat, is actually sweet licorice, whereas the other is salty licorice. Djungelvrål is even more salty with salt on the outside as well. In Sweden, there are a lot of candy that is salty and/or sour. Like A LOT. We do love the mix of flavors with a bit salty/sour and sweet :) With that said, not a lot of other countries generally have these so I understand if people are unfamiliar with that type of combination! Loved the reaction! You should come visit Sweden some time when it's safer to travel again! It's beautiful here :D

I don't know. Salty liquorice seem to be very Scandinavian but others can learn to like it. We had an Englishman over once who tried some salty liquorice and thought it was disgusting. Later he tried one more and once again complained how bad it was. But then we caught him trying another one. And another one. And eventually he had eaten the whole cup we had the candy in. He was addicted. He now visit the Swedish store where he lives and buy salty liquorice.

The salt on (and in) the Djungelvrål is not normal salt (sodium chloride), it's ammonium chloride, which tastes much saltier than table salt, so people always react quite strongly to it, because they're always surprised by it 😁 Many thanks to Alexandria for sending them all this stuff! Swedish, but adopted Korean here. Fighting! Salty liquirice is definitely a required taste. I used to HATE it when I was young, but my mother LOVES it, and I have to hide her liquirice or she will eat five bags of it in one evening. However, recently I tried some salty liquirice and I found my taste buds changed a lot. I don't hate it, I honestly don't find it very disgusting at all, but I still cannot see me eat it because of how much I used to hate it. So, I am one of those rare cases of, I don't hate it, but I don't love it. I guess you need to be born with Korean genes and then eat almost all Swedish food for 30 years to get to that point.

Swedish person here! I can tell you a bit more about the candies 🥰🇸🇪 Marabou: the most famous chocolate company in Sweden. There's dozens of different flavours including salted caramel, hazelnut and raspberry! Daim: (pronounced like 다임) a favourite of many people, there's even Marabou chocolate with Daim-flavour! Dipp: we dip not only chips in this, but also cut-up vegetables, like carrot or cucumber sticks! :) Gott & Blandat (meaning "yummy & mixed"): very classic bag of mixed candy. I can also say there are two different kinds of liquorice: sweet and salty -- I think the one you both liked is the sweet one :) Djungelvrål (litr. djungle scream): I hate this candy too! Maybe in the future I will send you more kinds to try 💕 언니들 화이팅!

When me and boyfriend buys Gott & Blandat, he eats all the liquorice and I eat the colourful ones. He loves Djungelvrål (translates to Roar of the jungle), and I think it’s disgusting. Salty liquorice is popular in Scandinavia (Finland in particular), but uncommon otherwise. :)
