    Hey, kids! I've received your feedback on 'Quality Street' and 'Galaxy Chocolates' being British, not Middle Eastern. So, I've done some research. Galaxy is a brand from Mars, Incorporated. But, this chocolate in specific (Dates chocolates) is originated in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Galaxy is sold worldwide and they produce different chocolates targeted for different countries. Quality Street is INDEED a chocolate originally from Britain, currently produced by Nestlé. I don't see any difference between the ones we tried and the ones that are sold in Britain, other than Arabic descriptions at the back of the can. Thus, I've taken down Quality Street from the thumbnail to prevent more confusion in the future. I apologize for not having done enough research before filming the episode. Please do not blame the person who kindly sent us the snacks, since it is my job to check everything before making a video. If you're reading this, thanks again, Edwin! Anyways, thank you for watching and hope you have a great day💚

    My friend and coworker is from Morocco. He went home for a couple months and when he came back he brought me an ENORMOUS bag of dates from his uncle’s trees. I love dates from the store. But oh my, these were the best food I’ve ever eaten. It was like having dessert nuggets. I made myself sick eating them but I have no regrets, lol.

    I agree! So different! We have a date farm in Palestine and when I went to visit over there, it was like eating caramels off a tree. I was craving them so much back in America, so one of my mom's patients (from Kuwait) brought me a huge expensive gold box of macadamia-stuffed dates. I tried to pace myself and only eat them as treats, but they were CRACKKKKK. I can't remember the name of the brand she ordered for me, but I NEED to find it and hoard them for my last meal when I'm about to die. Heavennnnnn!!!! 😍😍😍

    @@nancyhernandez2271 - You're just in time, I texted my mom yesterday asking her if she remembers the name and she did! Or at least her coworker did lol, since everyone in her office was addicted as well 😆 It's called "Bateel". They have their original bakeries based overseas, but they also now have a corporation in the US, so you won't have to pay for customs! And after looking at their website, I now understand why it tastes so much better. In the US, the only dates we eat are *Medjool,* but there's many more varieties of dates (just like apples or berries have varieties). The kind of dates that Bateel uses like *Segai, Sokari, Wanan, Ajwa, Khidri,* and *(my fave) Kholas* have a higher moisture content, so they require less chewing and melt in your mouth, like a super soft caramel. There's various options for fillings, but the one I tried had caramelized macadamia inside it. I recall it had a nice balance of crunchy & soft, sweet & salty, nutty & fruity. Remember, it's gourmet, so it's expensive. But it'd make a great Xmas gift.... bateelusa.com/gourmetdates bateel.com/en/seven-types

  • @aseela.4208
    @aseela.42083 жыл бұрын

    As a middle eastern, I am thankful for this person. However, I think they chose the most interesting ones and focused solely on chocolate while we do have more variety of snacks. Yumi mentioned the difference in sizes for the chocolate but truly it's the dates. Dates come in a variety of sizes and tastes. As a person who grew up in the middle east and has been living in the US for a bit I can see how it is confusing espically since in the US the only type available is Californian dates which are completely different. Since many of the middle eastern countries have dry weather, it is easier to grow dates there. I am saudi Arabian and specifically in my family's hometown, you can go to date farms and festivals to see the diversity of dates. Mamoul (the cookies) come in different looks depending on the region. I can't wait until I go back to my country in the summer to find the most popular snacks (with chocolate too) and maybe a box of Arabian coffee to go along with it!

    Well this isn't the UN and they aren't speaking to any world leaders. it's a youtube channel. i love hearing her speak korean. she has a very sweet voice either way. but, also love hearing her accent. that's not taking anything away from her culture. we all know she's a beautiful korean woman and respect her culture as well. speaking english every now and then wouldn't change how the world see's her or think any less of where she's from. i do understand what you're saying and respect it. Yumi may want to speak only Korean to bring us into their world and we are the guest in their home, so to speak. i get it. but it still doesn't change that fact that i love her english accent.

    I saw Quality Street in the thumbnail, clicked, and was immediately confused by the packaging. Up until this point, I assumed Quality Street were a solely UK thing, as I hadn't heard of them anywhere but the UK. So, seeing the box of Quality Street in different packaging, and with a different brand name (the brand is Nestlé in the UK), I paused the video and did some digging . First I looked into Mackintosh's, figuring it was the original company the was bought out by Nestlé. I was right. With a quick Wikipedia search, I found that the company was founded in 1890 when a sweet newly married couple bought a pastry shop in Halifax, England, and they decided to make toffees to reel in customers. The recipe was developed a bit, and the toffees were so successful that they were able to expand their business outside of Halifax, in 1894 (these toffees are also the reason toffees are called toffees, as before the word 'toffee' was defined as any sugar or boiled sweet). Skipping ahead a fair few years, Mackintosh's started expanding their business overseas, starting in Asbury Park, New Jersey, in1904, which soon failed. However they tried again in Krefeld, near Dusseldorf, in 1906, and by 1914 they had been established in Canada and Australia. Skipping some more details, I found on the Quality Street Wiki page that the business was inherited by the couple's son (Harold) when his dad died, and in 1936 he invented Quality street. This bit I'd heard before (presumably from adverts or I read it on the tin as a kid). Harold's aim was to create affordable chocolates for the working class, as only the rich could afford boxes of chocolate at the time. The Mackintosh's brand was bought out by Nestlé when the bought 'Roundtree Mackintosh' in 1988 (that brand is a whole other bag of worms. I've only skimmed over the page but I think there was a merger at some point.). The fact there's other business overseas, makes sense of the difference in packaging, but apparently the difference in brand name is because it's known as different things in different countries. For example, in Western Norway it's known as 'Shetlandsgod' /'Shetland Snoops' because it was commonly brought home by fishermen visiting Shetland, and in Iceland it's simply known as 'Mackintosh' (they didn't explain why for that one though). I thought I'd report my findings cos I found it interesting, and there's gotta be some other confused Brit's besides me out there. In the UK, Quality Street are really popular, especially round Christmas, but they're sold all year round (usually given as birthday or anniversary gifts, from what I've noticed). I've not had Quality Street for many years because I have a dairy intolerance, but they're a British staple and I envy the other people in my household (just a little bit), as there's a tub of Quality Street sat in our living room. With all that said, I can finally watch the video. I hope you all found this as interesting as I did (I recommend looking at the Wiki pages).

    @Gi Gi Our Quality Street have Toffee Penny and a Toffee finger (which is basically a stick of toffee wrapped in chocolate). I noticed a silver wrapper with blue writing in the video, and I'm not sure what that is (I think we had that here and it was discontinued), but (to my knowledge) the toffee's have always been un the UK box. DO you not have any toffee in the Canada box? If not, I wonder why.

    @Gi Gi I don't know if we have the separate toffees here. We definitely have other Quality Street products, but if we have separate toffees then they're not as popular here.

Galaxy is also a huge chocolate brand here i dont really find it anywhere else and its very unique. My childhood i mostly remember having different chips, alot of different biscuit brands that were arabic and that one blue biscuit box, jammie biscuits, crackers. Defenitley carmel candies for some reason theyre popular here and i remember as a child always getting them from my grandma. (Ps this is how it was for me so if it was different for u dont hate just comment if u want)
