Whether it's through video/photo analysis and defector's recollection, it's perfectly reasonable that you can obtain information on their pattern of clothing and hair through the years. In other words, even if you aren't submerged in it....someone is and you can obtain that. These days, I can find random people more educated in my own culture than me lol

Whether you believe it’s propaganda or not, these images are literally what the North Korean government has put out and wanted to put out. North Korean defectors can tell you as well. They don’t wear much makeup, they celebrate hard work and wearing symbols and garments of the ruling party. There are videos you can search on KZread from the government itself that praise their own values. These images aren’t even negative. They show exactly the ideals of communism. 🤦🏻

RACISM + POLITICAL LINES ARE A MODERN THING. in order to have a language of your own; you need to be isolated or undisturbed for sometime. but also not ignorant of what is outside your nation. There is really no"chinese culture" if you go back further in time it would be NEPAL. South Korea is very westernized with the media and such. I never said that it was the better choice. What I'm trying to point out is that these people to even get the chance to express their styles and creativity in they way that they like. Or the government goes after them. Okay, you like the more conservative way of dressing, but it's not like these people have options to wear anything different.

This is terribly inaccurate. This was 100 years of American beauty with a Korean model. Though influenced by western fashion, Korea has always retained it's own original flair.

The fact that south Koreans are become prejudice against people who are unapologetic Korean is a symptom of it. The bulk of color contact lens & bleaching creams are dominate in Asian society today. 100 ago. they were OK with themselves. --- why cant they learn to speak Korean instead of Koreans learn English. They are the ones that say the are High-IQ but they speak no one else language but their own. ........... that is not a lead that create cultures we all love to see on the planet. And as for them learning English - that is the international language. Germans learn it, French learn it, Japanese learn it. If a Chinese goes to Korea they will generally use English to communicate. It has nothing to do with western culture. Sigh.

@@cinnamonstar808 you are very ignorant if you think lighter skin was not always the preferred tone in korea, china and japan. they have been bleaching their skin longer than you have been alive as you are obviously someone born in the 2000's. they do not want to be white. lighter skin tone indicated social and economical status. the people working in the farms had dark skin and the royals sat inside all day which resulted in lighter skin, which then became the preference of the people. you are obviously very ignorant and just want a reason to hate white people. these peoples have put lighter skin tone on a pedestal for 100's of years. grow up. fyi, they did get americas history "wrong," they all looked exactly the same except a slight variance in hairstyle, and that's just not all the differences there were

this was a nice video esp. to see N. Korea. We tend to forget that they are regular people with their own beauty standard(tho more regulated) S.Korean beauty trend now tho is way less makeup. They love pale,dewy skin, they dont wear big earrings, they definitely don't wear that much eyeliner, they don't highlight cheekbones, gradient lip or nude lip is in and we all know they love straight brows.

A simple "no makeup" look East or West can use about 10 makeup products or more. but here for the look thats in they add like 10 more products. and the funniest part is its black, white, latina they all go for that similar super made up look

I agree. I lean towards Korean makeup too and it looks NOTHING like that. Straight brows, tear bags, dewy skin, gradient lips, VERY natural eye makeup, natural blush. That's generally what it looks like.

That is exactly what I asked my South Korean mother! She was, however, nodding in agreement the whole time (except for 2010... that seems more Korean-American). She said that Korean style "was the same" as American, and looking at my family's photos, it pretty much was. I guess the K-pop movement was when they went crazy... :)

south korean fashion and beauty is very western (until recently, the 2010s is of course very wrong). korean pop culture is very edgy and urban OR classy and high end. it's been heavily influenced by the western world.

I feel like the last one for South Korea wasn't THAT accurate though. I was waiting for the Chestnut/Blonde/Light brown dyed hair that's been trending there now, lol even in men. Oh and the lip stain trend. And that really thin eyeliner I think , oh and the thick but faint eyebrows with not much of an arch...i think lol that's pretty much I all I see

Most of North Korea is actually starving to death so they definitely don't look like this. Only in Pyongyang maybe.

The 2010s version looked more like early 2010 era style with heavy make up, now its more subtle.

I got goosebumps at the initial splitscreen.

I think I'm the only one who thought the 2000s N.Korea looked cute.
