    I showed this to my grandma and she started laughing at the 60's one because she remembered the weird ass hair trend influenced by the president's wife.

    +Tj Samson the "weird ass hair trend" I was talking about was the odd shape of the big hair because it's a pretty unique shape/style of big hair that isn't usually seen around the world

    Oh sorry to see that you got heated Mr. greenhouse maybe you should stay out of the sun and in your own lane. I will say it one more time, THE ODD HEART-SHAPED HAIR is what I was talking about. I understand that big hair was a worldwide trend in the 60's. However, as you can see, the shape of the hair is unique out of all the hairstyles in this video. Why are you making such a big deal out of what I said. Gosh i cant share a funny story without some random people getting unnecessarily butthurt. Its hilarious how you took the time out of your day to call me 13 and give me an unneeded history lesson. Go on and disperse your heat on some plants or something mr. greenhouse. Bye. (ps I'm 17 get your facts straight).

    Notice how as time progresses her skin becomes whiter. Sadly in the Philippines, whiter skin is considered attractive, even superior to the darker skin of the indigenous people. In fact many companies sell products like special soaps or scrubs that claim to whiten the skin, and many Filipinos almost make it an obsession to whiten their skin. It's honestly really sad. Darker skinned people of any country shouldn't depreciate the value of their appearance.

  • @thwb4661

    @thwb4661

    8 жыл бұрын

    XxAleenazxX I agree with Kat Leigh, it's a combination of Racism and Classism. Here in the Philippines, the Spaniards defined the beauty standards of the Filipinos and it is connected to the social status of the people. If you're mestizo or with european features, you'll be considered upper class, if you look chinese, you'll be considered middle class. If you look malay and also aboriginal, you'll be in the lower class. That has something to do with racism and classism combined. But as the time goes by, the standard is still the same but the racism and classism started to fade. No matter how asian or european you look and how poor or rich you are, as long as you are pale skinned or has the "Mestizo beauty", you'll be beautiful. However, there are who encourages brown skinned people to embrace what they are and they also set another beauty standard. The "Morena" Beauty.

    +Kat Leigh I think it's more about social status than racism. It's a beauty standard in Asian culture that has nothing to do with the West and dates waaaaaaaaaay back since Dynasty times. If you had white porcelain skin, you were from a wealthy or noble family who stayed inside alot. If you had dark skin, you were a laborer who worked in the fields.

    When other people think of typical Asian beauty, the first things that will come up to their mind are Chinese, Japanese and Korean features. Filipinos are not that of typical Asian look, we were descended from the Malays with a hint of Spanish or Hispanic blood and some are blended with Chinese.

At least from my experience, my interactions with Filipinos/Filipinas have been nothing but extremely positive. Can't say that with other Asian ethnic groups though....Chinese, Japanese and Koreans can be very racist and whitewashed.

Let Filipinos be brown!!!! Edit: I didnt see how many comments are on this thread. I made this comment a long time ago and I didn't really know the origin of the word mestiza but my mother and other Filipino friends and relatives have called me that word my whole life. I dont really like to use it anymore because I have learned about the influence of Spanish colonialism on the Philippines. If I had made this comment today I would have just said mixed Canadian-Filipino. Also I DIDNT mean this as a backhanded compliment I may have just worded it poorly. You don't HAVE to be any colour i just think that the lengths that some darker Filipinos go to lighten their skin is sad and unnecessary.

    When you put it that way, it does lessen my nitpicky feeling towards the 1910, if it really did come from an American point of view. I do remember our history teacher telling us about how they once exhibited the Filipinos in their country as such (uncivilized, dressed in minimal clothing, doing rituals and dances, etc. even though the Filipinos just got in the act as well and were happy with the experience). Thank you for pointing that out.

    +The Happy Weird Boy Let me supplement you on that one: 1910s-American Propaganda depicting exoticized "primitive" indigenous people to defend their move on colonizing the Philippines. 1920s-Fernando Amorsolo's depiction of ideal Filipino culture and Identity, and the ideal Filipina women(no mestiza, pure asian). They weren't just random rural life paintings. 1950s-Barbara Perez, the "local Audrey Hepburn" of the Golden Age of Philippine Cinema 1970s-Karilagan Models. They were a big deal during the 70s in the local fashion industry. 2000s-Kpop influenced much of Asia. Casualties included our country. 2010s-Movement towards favoring brown skin(the supposed natural Filipino skin) that is said to be slowly starting in this decade.

    I am a Filipino from pangasinan in the Philippines and I swear if I see one more comment saying she looks Chinese I am going to flip a table. While a lot of Filipinos don't look like her many do. As we all know if you look to Brazil there are differences in ALL the people I a. Culture. For me and my Filipino family there are many of us who are light skin and some who are dark skin. When these people say she looks Chinese they don't realize they're generalizing and subtly saying oh all Asians look the same. It's pissing me off -_- .. There are many differences between races! You all should know This.. Many Many Many Filipinos are light skin. I'm going to go eat some pansit noodles now lol.

    I'm from Pangasinan as well & I've been asked if I was Chinese or Japanese. I always chalked it up as they just can't differentiate us because of lack of knowledge, not because they're racist. Some people have never been outside their own cities much alone country, so they aren't aware of the individual looks (eyes, nose, hair texture, etc) each Asian country has. I have been fair skin since birth, and became even more so when I moved to the US, which throws some people off too, they think most Filipinos are brown skin. I wish I could tan, must've been all those times my Lola put rubbing alcohol (ward off mosquitoes I guess) after baths that killed all my pigmentation lol

    +John Graves Actually, she DOES look Chinese. I am willing to bet anything that she has some (or a lot) of Chinese blood in her. There is nothing wrong with that, because many Filipinos are mixed-race, which means that you can look like practically anyone on the planet and still be Filipino. Isn't that why the Philippines is so amazing in the first place?

    One thing I noticed is that we ALWAYS come back to the red lipstick hahaha. It's kind of a staple in a pinay's makeup bag. And the 1960's gave me an Imelda vibe. Is she the one who started that big hair trend?

    Filipinos have natural tanned skin.. they don't call themeselves as black, brown or white they call themselves kayumanggi so are Filipinas. Some people wonder why most Filipinas don't wear makeup.. well the reason behind it is because the people in the Philippines got so used to seeing each other's bare faces that they couldn't help but laugh and just stare at the person who's wearing makeup even if it's hella heavy or just basically light makeup. The Pinays have their own beauty that appeals to different kinds of countries, their natural looks can be an international heart throb like.. LOOK AT THEM!! **TO ALL FOREIGNERS THAT WANT TO VISIT PHILIPPINES THAT WEARS MAKEUP.. I RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT WEAR MAKE UP IN THE PHILIPPINES BECAUSE IT WON'T LAST VERY LONG, PHILIPPINES IS A HOT HOT HOT COUNTRY!!**
