It’s so strange watching this having lived in Japan for 2 years now. Japanese style (at least right now) is very neutral-toned and minimalistic, opting for looser fits and layers. Unless you’re out at night in Tokyo, it is super rare to see people wearing statement pieces like in this video

Unfortunate how you guys didn’t feature the “Modern Gaaru” style of the 20s, considering the political contributions those women made.

OMGGG EVERY STYLE IS ADORABLE!!
Oooh, I wish you had gotten into the reasoning why lolita and really cutesy styles became popular. They were the Japanese version of punk for women, essentially - rejecting the entire concept of mature woman that they were being forced into at a young age. It was seen as a more repulsive trend to men, which made it even more popular with women.

Reimo I’m thinking it’s not necessarily romantic rejection but like parents, relatives, teachers, bosses, etc.
@raisamu9
5 жыл бұрын
Reimo actually it’s not really a lie. Back then it was traditional for women to focus everything they had into becoming “proper” wives and such and putting the family first. Meaning learning to be a proper “lady”. Lolita was started by women who wanted to go against these traditions and allow themselves to focus on their own happiness than just the happiness of the man of the house. So back when Lolita started it was pretty frowned upon there is a video by Scarfing Scarves, a Lolita youtuber, they made a two part video about how Lolita is a feminist fashion style. In part 1 they explain the history of how Lolita started. I would suggest watching that if you’re interested
