I think it's really interesting how both of you are trying to step beyond your own bias and actually listen to one another... but then it turns out to be a real struggle because you both so much want the other person to see your point. I agree with both of you. As it stands, the almost mythical status of trans individuals is making it nearly impossible to criticise their place in society, so there I agree with you. And I agree with Neil that it is now upon us all to solve these problems moving forward, by leveling the playing field altogether. Maybe in fifty years we will look back at this and think it's all just as silly as the boys and girls entrance to the school. New solutions will be found. Thank you for bringing light to this topic and speaking to people with very different views about it.

@@hannekezijlmans6578 we did even the playing field when we made women only spaces/sports/shortlists that’s how women got opportunities, it’s men that want to be women that are pushing into these areas causing the problem. Trans women are not the same as women. Pretending so only hurts real women. Have a trans category and let’s see how many trans athletes sign up shall we? If you transition to another sex you are a trans person in a separate class from man and woman if there are actually so many of them it won’t be a waste of time and money to accommodate them in their own spaces/sport/shortlists. That won’t happen because the trans movement has been hijacked by fetishists and perverts and if they can’t spy on or intimidate women then what’s the point.

i had an ongoing "debate" with a couple of these parrots who kept coming back to "why do you care" after their accusations of phobia and bigotry did not achieve the desired and expected withering away and dying. i asked chat gp t if that was a reasonable argument - "In a debate, "Why do you care?" is generally not considered a reasonable argument on its own. This response may be perceived as dismissive or evasive rather than addressing the actual points or issues raised during the debate. Debates are meant to be an exchange of ideas and arguments, and simply asking why someone cares does not contribute to the substance of the discussion."

That’s considerate, and if it’s a joke, it is funny. The key thing to remember is that being an expert in a field it does not mean that one is naturally right. Because someone is well educated does not mean that they are knowledgeable on the subject. The truth is, Tyson’s arguments, about many things, are suspect. It’s the quality of the argument, not the merit or résumé of a person. Good luck with your astrophysicist endeavors.

The main problem with Neil Degrasse Tyson's position is not the practical implications of branding a XY chromosome person a female. His solutions to the problems posed by the interviewer are not connected to reality, but the real issue with his position is that you cannot insist on evolution or the big bang as settled scientific theory (while branding anyone who rejects these theories as uneducated) and at the same time insist on an alternative definition of gender than is not based on hard science. People are entitled to feel whatever they want. But a scientific answer is a scientific answer and you cannot swiftly move from a position of "deal with the facts!" to a position of "what do you care what the facts are?!" depending on the subject you are discussing. And to answer his "what do you care?!" famous line: I do care because I care about the truth. And a scientist should be concerned with distinguishing between a true and a false statement.

De Grasse Tyson's bullying conversational style is so transparent. The main goal is to the let the clock run out before the discussion ripens into meaning by dominating the rhetoric, like a high school debate. Here's how to suppress a layered exchange, from DGT's playbook: 1) make sure you're louder than the other guy 2) try to intellectually shame them for not having enough support for their view by saying "oh, you only have 2 examples" despite having NO examples elucidating his "emergent behavior" hypothesis 3) remind them not to talk over you --in the form of a compliment-- even though you repeatedly interrupt them and hog the stage 4) bring up a lengthy personal anecdote that adds no depth 5) remind them that you know more than they possibly could about being discriminated against (water fountains!) intended to shame them into silence. He's never going to have a remotely scientific response to the T- issue because he never allows the conversation to become Real Collaboration. It's all about him winning. And...he doesn't wanna get canceled.

Why can't someone apply dark tan and makeup to darken or lighten their skin to present as a different race, if they FEEL they identify with another culture more and want to be Asian for example... like plenty white people love Asian culture say. And may dress in the way the trends are popular over there and act a certain way. And no-one is smart enough to break down this issue into its actual fundamentals: The only real objective and reason for any of this to begin with is: some criminal peeping tom and flasher men want to gain access to women's locker rooms to commit the crimes of peeping on those women and indecent exposure of themselves to those women for their sexual gratification. Well, maybe for some of them the objective is purely the criminal financial benefit they gain from cheating in sports.

Yep. NGT's intellectual mediocrity never ceases to amaze me. NGT is conflating gender and biological sex when these are two very different things. There are some rare chromosomal anomalies, but for the most part (99.995%), biological sex is binary: male XY and female XX. Changing external genitalia via surgery doesn't change this. A female's fertility cycle, physiology and biochemistry is very complex. Yes, gender is more fluid, and yes that's many associations many of which are cultural. But still gender and biological sex are two very different things.

It is made to make you think he is so confident in what he says. But he can't hide his body language. He is terrible at it. Several points he was visibly shaking. He was trying to explain how enlightened their bathrooms are. He literally just described a bathroom. The problem isn't that there aren't small dividers between stalls mate, its that people can still look and touch over those things.

@@simondavis750 Bathrooms have, IMO, always been the 'easy' win which masks the real harm. It is relatively simple to create private spaces in a bathroom, the real issue is the underlying principle of 'women (female) only spaces.' I don't care about bathrooms. I care how you can prove voyeurism and exhibitionism - known sexual crimes committed overwhelming against women - if you have locker rooms, spas, and other spaces where anyone can 'self identify' as a woman and enter. I am still waiting for someone, anyone, to give me a definition of the word 'woman' that neither relies on biology nor on stereotypes yet still retains enough meaning you could legally classify someone as one. Maybe I'll consider the 'trans women are women' point as possibly valid if anyone could do it.

@@glumberty1 _"What does it even mean to feel female or feel male?"_ That has been the question I've been asking for a while because I do not think ANYONE knows that. First off that has to assume that e.g. every female or male has to feel exactly the same way and I think I've interacted enough with both that it seems BOTH sexes has countless ways to feel things and it boils down to individual level. I do not e.g. think that some stoic quiet guy who likes to build things with his hands and spends time alone feels same way as some bubbly social guy who is in his element when surrounded by people. Simply because totally different personality types. I have ZERO idea what e.g. my same sex co-workers exactly "feels" inside them. I think we all have different thought and feelings patterns based on our personalities and personal experiences. E.g. does a person who lost their parents at early age feel same as someone who didn't? Because I do not think they do. Let alone that some random woman knew what some random male feels or vice versa. So how can someone like Tyson then tell that someone can feel like fe/male feels? Which male? Which female? YOu can pick 10 random females or males and they all can give very different answers what it feels to be you based on their personalities and experiences.

It's funny how he (Tyson the scientologist) criticizes people who supposedly categorize others by their style and then uses style to define male and female types...It's not Konstantin Kisin who is using looks to categorize people. He uses genes, chromosomes, biology. It's Neil Tyson who is saying you are a man or a woman if you dress and paint yourself as one...At the same time criticizing "the social construct" that categorizes people's gender by their looks...The irony couldn't be bigger.

Instead, "Intersectionality", "Intersectionality", "Intersectionality" and like beetlejuice the inconsistencies, crazy and irrational elements to woke ideology become apparent. Gay men fought hard to have homosexuality recognised as an immutable characteristic, that is homosexuals were born not made. That is now at odds with the current woke dogma of everything being a social construct. For many years the church pushed gay conversion therapy onto gay men as a solution or cure for homosexuality. Since God didn't make mistakes, homosexuality, apart from being a sin, must also be a social construct and thus changeable or reversible. Good to see the church and woke ideology agreeing on something.
