    As a famous person once said: "There are no words for a parent that must bury their child." One of the many times in FFXIV I've cried and I still tear up whenever I see that scene.

    Props to the TTS massagers. They all knew exactly what they were doing. But what gets me the most is not just the Vault but the father’s scene right afterwards. Really drives the knife in.

    Gotta love the fact that they went back fairly recently and amended this cutscene to make it even more clear that we couldn't save him and to give more evidence to the sorts of things that curative magics can and can't restore.

    my only gripe with the change is they took out Haurchefants line in the beginning where he says "we are not to late my friend!" I know it doesn't really add or loose anything but it still catches me off guard when I hear Estinien say something instead.

    Glad they added that. Nothing more frustrating than my White Mage butt sitting there like "Oh I guess you die". TBF they do do a better job of acknowledging you as a healer later on.

    I played Scholar up until I hit this quest. I was so upset after this happened, since I was a healer that couldn't save my friend, that I swapped to Black Mage at that point and spent all of HW and Stormblood as one in mourning. It's been years, and to this day I've never played Scholar again.

    I went the opposite direction. I was Pugilist/Monk all the way to Heavensward. When I hit level 60, it was around patch 5.5, so I decided to pick up Gunbreaker. The first dungeon I ever tanked? The Vault. "It should have been me." I've been a Gunbreaker ever since. I ended up making that Survivor's Guilt part of my WoL's story. So much so that "I couldn't save them" is his *Soul's* Core Wound.

    @ericbright1742 Yeah it was a narrative thing for me too. She realized that healing and shielding is reactive and has limits. If she had been stronger and more aggressive, a dead enemy can't hurt anyone. Took until she thought she'd lost everyone in the lead up to shb for her to leave the black mage's path of pure destruction, instead focusing on dancer and rdm. Rdm a balance between her healing roots and destructive period, and dnc because of the understanding she doesn't have to carry the burden alone, but can work with and support her allies so together they can achieve even greater things. No clue where dawntrail will lead my wol.

I can *almost* tolerate him not feeling anything when bro died, but when the late-comers asked him how he felt about Haurchefant, he said he didn't care if he died because he and everyone else is "useless" unlike his character, forgets it moments later, and had the face to say "what did i say? oh whatever i said i probably meant it, chat"

  • @SlvrStryker
    @SlvrStryker3 ай бұрын

    And now you understand why we all tear up when we are told that a smile better suits a hero. Little bit of trivia for you, Koe: that scene where Alphinaud was attempting to heal Harchefaunt wasn't originally there. It was added in (I think) around the same time as when they put the 3.0 dungeons under Duty Support because there were so many people that didn't see the logic of a WoL playing healer just casting Cure on them when - in truth - nothing could have been done to save him.

  • @theredknight1757

    @theredknight1757

    If you play the EX version of HW's final boss, this attack is present and applies a debuff that prevents healing. That explained why he couldn't be healed. That being said, it was a very obscure way to give that knowledge so, as you pointed out, they reworked this cutscene to just flat-out say it now.

  • @spiritmuse

    @spiritmuse

    3 ай бұрын

    I think the main reason he was added is simply that because of the duty support system he is now part of your raiding party instead of being off somewhere else, so they now had to account for his presence in the scene. That it makes for a good opportunity to explain that Haurchefant couldn't be healed is a happy coincidence.

  • @ericbright1742

    In the EX version, if someone is KO'd to that spear attack, it's a party wipe and reset. Because that person wasn't just knocked out.

    I used to get arbitrary nosebleeds all the time when I was younger, every summer. I don't know if it was related to the heat, or change in air pressure, or what. It sure was annoying, hanging my head over the sink just waiting for it to stop. Then I'd try to clean up, and -- oh! Touched my nose the wrong way, I guess it's Nosebleed Time again for another 15 minutes! But you know, human beings are so intelligently designed, created in God's image, it's all according to the divine plan. Nothing in the universe can work itself out unless I have this nosebleed.

    @@caleb4717 No offense but, Moenbryda was a plot device, a character introduced and killed off in the same episode. We barely had time to like her to truly mourn her passing. If she _still hurts_ then you're a far too sensitive soul for dramatic fiction and have my sympathy. The only thing that truly hurts, is the pain Urianger feels. Much like how the (arguably) worst part of Haurchebro's passing was the pain his father felt afterwards.

    I never really got into Harchefaunt, mostly because I was too busy angrily trying to unlock HW so I could play Machinist. And when I did this dungeon, someone spoiled it with "Now you get to watch THAT cutscene" and I immediately knew a character was gonna die, so I've spent my entire FF14 career just picking apart how stupid the death scene is. I always love watching new sprouts get to it and become heartbroken though. Welcome to Heavensward! ;)
