Knitting Help - Adding Plastic Snaps to Your Knitting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I demonstrate how to add plastic snaps to your knitting, specifically, adding snaps to convertible mitts.
My Knock Knock Convertible Mitts tutorial can be found here:

The snaps I used are Kam Snaps, I got my kit here on Amazon:

    WONDERFUL! I am a new Kam Snapper & I *love them.* I haven't done many garment buttonholes since getting my set (a million colors! quick to install! wears well!) especially on baby clothes both knits and wovens. Sewing a strip of ribbon (fine grosgrain is especially nice) to the underside of a placket on a sweater or the crotch seam of little pants adds a bit of stability but not weight or bulk & makes snapping especially easy with no worries about pulling those pretty knitted stitches out of shape. Thank you for all you share, love your videos!

    The way the snaps are attached the two mittens can be fastened together when not needed! Quite brilliant to attach them the other way around;))

    Thank you for pointing this out! When I watched, my perfectionist tendencies immediately noticed that they were opposite and I thought "that would drive me nuts" (I know that sounds ridiculous...), but you are absolutely right - this is a GREAT solution for keeping mittens together while not in use.

    Because the snaps come in paired sets, I actually liked that you chose the pair of each color and switched where they went on the mitts. You will not be missing a set when you get low on a color and need a set😊.

    I'll have to add that to my wish list. I love all the colors of the snaps so much more fun than metal. I already have a metal snap fastener but I see the faster it comes with plastic ones for a very reasonable price I love that they're in a case.

    Very nice, worked well. I thought about using plastic snaps but wasn't sure if it was the right thing to use. I used the loop and button, which worked fine. Small button isn't that clunky and doesn't snag. Thank you

    The way you did the snaps means you won't have an odd number of either color left over, which I'd much prefer over something no one would ever notice :)

    I LOVE the Kam Snaps idea for these mitts. And that purple/gold colorway is 😍😍. I hope this isn't too far off the scope of this video, but I'm making a very simple children's cardigan in Aran weight yarn and I'm afraid these snaps would be too small for the yarn weight & overall look of the garment. Do you have any recommendations for a button-free closure that would work in that application?

    Would it not be easier to attach the snap before you attach the flip top part of the mitten to the main part of the mitten? I am doing my first pair of convertible mittens right now. I have made lots of mittens and I am also trying to do socks and with all of the various videos I am almost totally video taught to learn knitting and crochet I find that they are very good for me to learn how to make all kinds of things!!

    Please help! I knitted a fair isle doll dress and the third and fourth rows are so tight the whole hem curls. 😰 I am steam blocking with pins now but it seems like it will keep curling. It took SO LONG to knit and I already showed the person who is getting it and she loves it. Advice? Some kind of crocheted top stitch maybe?

    Another thing you can use from the sewing community is that instead of using a Sharpie to mark your spot [we have all made a mistake before] because they are indelible, by using a Frixion marker you can use heat [an iron works well] and the ink disappears. While I haven't used it specifically on yarn it works well on fabric and it doesn't need a high temperature - it's the heat produced by the friction of rubbing with the plastic endy bit that erases the pen in normal use on paper so it's not a lot of warmth needed. Just thought I would pass that on in case some folk are as clumsy as me when it comes to making an error or 3.

    Thanks for the video! I am trying to add snaps to something I knitted but I am finding that when closed the snaps are very strong and they are pulling the snap away from where it is embedded in the knit and messing it up. Do you have any suggestions?

    Maybe include a little square of fabric with the snap to stabilize the knit fabric a bit? I haven't tried this myself.

  • @meredithamelia
    @meredithamelia5 жыл бұрын

    When I use KAM snaps in my sewing, I always use a stabilizer to make sure the snaps don't pull or tear at the fabric with repeated use. Wouldn't it be necessary to do the same on knitted items?

  • @verypinkknits

    @verypinkknits

    5 жыл бұрын

    As long as you're using the snaps on an area that isn't holding much weight (like these mitts), stabilizing the snap isn't necessary.
