I think if you added a plate coming off of the left side of the machine, you could rest it up against your thigh or hip and the added stability should probably make aiming easier. It seems like the immediate recoil of the belts pulling the knife forward is knocking your aim off and if you had the machine stabilized to your hips it might not have as much recoil

I reckon it should be shoulder mounted like a javelin rocket launcher. Your line of sight would be closer to what the lidar sees, too.
You have redefined “quality time” for me as a parent. Thank you for this inspiration!

I feel like if I do not do cool projects with my kids like Quint does, then I have failed as a parent. 😆
I continue to be impressed with just how consistent that thing is.
The slow-mo of the knives dancing and bouncing is beauuutiful!

I'd absolutely love it if you'd consider visiting www.patreon.com/QuintBUILDs and help support the channel. That is, assuming you like this kinda stuff and want to see more. The next video will be all about no-spin vs. single and double spin knife throwing using identical forward velocity of the knife (something this thrower is uniquely capable of doing). We've already taken our first "stab" at it and can't wait to share! Don't forget to like and subscribe to see future videos!

This is what happens when you bring a knife to a fruit & veg fight. Great video.
Such an amazing dynamic you two! Great stuff every time!
Great job once again, with both the build and the presentation!
Man i love this channel. Glad to see you grow, hope to see more frequent uploads.
Coolest build I've seen in a while. I wouldn't mind having a toy like that.
Vinegar is Acetic Acid. Muriatic Acid is HCl (present in stomach)

Love the channel guys. I've been following for a while. Cant wait to see what else you guys build in the future. This is the only reason I want a kid haha, a mini mad scientist to help me build my crazy things
How did I miss this upload! Part 3 just popped up on my feed and thought. Hey! I never watched part II so here we are! Can’t wait!
I laughed out loud at "Nothing is wasted at Quint BUILDS!" Love it!
this is great guys i had a good time watching those knife machine videos
Amazing build and great test video :)
The way you use so many camera angles is really good

Love your content! I would be curious how far the knife would penetrate ballistic gel.
I thought the gushing sound from the knife removal was edited in until you said something 😅 what a sound. Thanks for the video!
Seeing as the grain of the wood in the arrow isn’t as straight as you would think, you totally split it. Congratulations on making the coolest machine in history 🍻🔪
Excellent video
My guess as to why it entered backwards on the second watermelon shot is that you'd ranged the backboard, and so the rotation didn't complete it's final turn. Not sure if it was re-ranged for the follow-up shots, but if it was that would seem to explain it to me. Regardless, love the machine, and the videos, and will definitely be coming back to see more content in the future.
Your kids are going to have such a cool home video collection!
What awesome wholesome fun!
I want to see it on a ballistic gel dummy * pulls up dark kermit the frog hood *
Awesome vid. Awesome machine. I hope you revisit the arrow. Try to get a small bow to fire the arrow into the wood to make it more stable. Putting the knife thrower on a stand for that shot will improve accuracy.
@ecospider5

It looks like they hit it correctly but the grain of the wood in the arrow was not cooperating. They probably would have split a bamboo arrow with those throws.
i love how its this huge heavy weapon looking thing like itll blast you with a laser or something and than SURPRISE a knife is lobbed at you
I watch this channel to imagine what having a good Dad would've been like. :)
Well I guess you know you invented a very useful tool now ! This would make a good Christmas gift . Much better than a BB gun 😋❤️
A stun mode would actually be a very cool (and very challenging) mode to implement
The knife, is just going to follow the grain of the wood as it's cutting. Fun video
With enough modifications, can it throw a nail or a needle into something?
that's nice ^^
A nice feature would be, to adjust the ranged throw distance in, idk, 5cm steps? like, you range for the wood plank in the bottom, and then manually adjust for the target, so the knife will more or less hit straight point first on the target
watermelon time. Nicely done, thx
Difference between thrown and stabbed is velocity squared.
That efficient looking watermelon will make RCE really proud 😂
That reminds me at Wilhem Tell, the swiss story
Could you add a retractable monopod to help with the weight?
dead rising needs one of these
5:20 that was real sound? Because it sounds like the one from Diablo 2 :P
Run! The watermelon has a knife!
nice! maybe it gets better accuracy, if it had another belt, running a weight counter to the accelerating knife to counteract the moment? I wonder if it could automatically improve aim by tracking the target with a camera, where the dot was when triggering and where the knife went?
@gorak9000
Жыл бұрын
I think actually pushing the button of the trigger seems to change the aim at the last second - you can see the laser dot move almost every time he presses the trigger.
5:16 It's pretty cool how the banana changes the rotation of the knife. I assume it's simply because the thin part of the blade goes through much easier while the thick part gets slowed down more as it compresses the banana around it.. Anybody know if this is correct?
Interesting
That would be a cool next button . Stun Mode , then stick mode . The perfection of stun , stick , stun be very cool . If it could be done . Dare . 😂
it's a bit weird to me that you were able to put together a knife throwing machine but you don't know that the baking powder+vinegar reaction happens instantly, or that shaking the bottle would help pressurizing it
Great videos! Really neat! A few years ago I saw where someone created a saw blade shooter which I thought was really neat.
Vinegar is acetic acid, not hydrochloric (Muriatic). It's converted from ethanol by Acetobacter.
Might be a bit late of a suggestion, but have you considered adding a T-shaped laser just so that you are 100% sure without looking at the machine that you're holding it relatively level to the ground. A lot of the shots had knifes flying sideways. Otherwise a great job of making a concept into a working piece of machinery
Wondering what you are using to power the motor drivers. As you go for deeper penetration, you will draw more and more current. There's a possibility the internal resistance of batteries may pull down the output voltage under heavyer loads and the differences in voltage supplied to the motor drivers might make your motors perform a little different than you expect. If you suspect you begin to run into this problem, then maybe you can software correct for it. Or maybe including capacitors will help hold the voltage more constant under heavy load because they have a much lower equlivent series resistance (ESR) than batteries' ESR. Or you can double your battery pack with a parallel battery bank to half the ESR. Or maybe you might need shorter and or thicker wires with less voltage drop and less inductive impedence allowing amps to flow more easily. Lastly motor drivers use PWM, pulse width modulation, to regulate how much power goes to the motors. placing a sizable capacitor with very low ESR as close as possible to the motor drivers will minimise inductive impedence along the power cables that result from the pulsing current draw with PWM driven motors. 🙏 Hopefully these issues remain minimal and don't become a problem that needs addressing. But if you do, you have an idea what might be causing them and how to mitigate them. I'm glad you and your son get to work on things like this. 😁
Хорошая работа 👍
So if you hit someone with this did you shoot them or stab them?

Glad you liked it. Even the viral one didn't take off until a bootleg 2 minute version got posted on Reddit. Oh well. Part 3 coming soon! 😁
It seems the majority of the misses are likely due to the stability of the launcher being hand-held; the mechanism movement causes the aim to drift slightly. Watch the playback and the laser dot moves a bit.

I think youtube must have shadow banned this, possibly for making a "weapon". I realized I hadn't seen a video lately and had to search to find the sequel (I'm a long time sub). 2.9 million views first video to 23k views for your second... something's fishy with the algorithm

@@QuintBUILDs - It looked clean in the video. You did a good job on that. I "re-branded" some cans for an event two summers ago and I wish I had started with a clean can. I tried all sorts of chemicals and the only way I could get the stuff off was with some type of abrasive. I do not have a lathe but I am sure I can figure something out. Scotchbrite is a magical 3M material.

@@arthurschwieger82 Did you try acetone or xylene, or MEK? Those dissolve most printing inks quite well and shouldn't harm the aluminum. Also could try naphtha (zippo lighter fluid). Whatever the ink is, there's some solvent that will dissolve it (and it was the solvent originally used in the ink to get it to flow in the first place)
@arthurschwieger82

@@gorak9000 - Interesting. It was a year and a half ago so I don't remember all that I tried. I would likely have tried acetone as I have some and would have expected it to work. I haven't tried lighter fluid. I don't have naphtha but I do have butane. Something to keep in mind when I do that again. It would be really nice to have a clean surface on which to work. Then I could burn through a painted layer with my laser to show the aluminum vs and under coat of paint. A little easier to control.

After having watched Dahmer, I would consider not shooting knife with your kid as a hobby (kidding, was awsome !)
I say even the first arrow counts. So ya did it 3 times.
I don't think it's very fair that you were aiming for stationary objects with no means of defending themselves... I say you also build a high powered playing card launcher and a high-powered sling and then aim all 3 at each other to see who really comes out on top in the battle between rock paper and scissors...
Follow next episode, where we will reinact the Danny Trejo attack scene from the movie 'Desperado' :)
