"Stone setting" sounds rather cold and menial.....you, my friend, are an artist of the finest degree! How you did this beautiful sculpting work in the time you did is phenomenal!!! Thanks for posting!

it is called an illusion setting, it looks like one stone when actually it is as above. The small stones are set close and tight to the center and help to hold it in place, but their are hidden prongs around the center stone as well.

And when one of those prongs gets snagged three stones will fall out at once and over time they will all loosen each other because they are over lapping. I prefer the traditional bead set pave i dont like the light coming into to the stone from the sides. This is what is dont these days because its so fast and easy but the finish procuct is so saturated with light it looks like one cheap crytal ball. Youre better off with svarovski crystal than to shine all the light into the diamond like that in my opinion. I spent many years doing traditional stuff and it was more conservative and when you had a good russian cut diamonds the diemond would show itself not the over abundance of light. The metal should reflect from the bottom and light should not enter into the stone from the sides in my opinion then you will have not only a better look but also a better product. When i set my stones in pave you can wash them in the ultrasonic for a whole day and nothing will fall out thats without raising beads yet and no hammer just stones put into the holes. It takes a long time but this way nothing will ever fall out and the stone will only be damaged if you smack the stone from the top only not the sides. This is quality first then looks second and in my opinion it looks much much better and more conservative and not saturated with light where you cannot even see the stone from light not being controlled properly. Thats just my opinion. and the way it was when i was a jeweler.

this goes to show you that their are many ways to set stones, this is one way. And you mentioned another, and in the end the customer is who dictates what type of setting they want. All is considered Art in my book

That is the beading tool used to set the prongs, when they are moist they can pick up the stones
