    Wondering how it was so easy for you to form the beads around diamonds. It seems while watching your vedio that the white gold was as soft as lead when you formed the beads around the diamonds with out even splitting the metal to form prongs.

    Using super super sharp and great tools help. Gold is a relative soft material. So it’s quite easy to bend

    Hi Dani, the prongs are actually really pushed over the diamonds. Later these little piles of gold are cleaned up with a bright cut graver ;-)

    We're removing metal to create tiny tiny holes/seats for the diamonds. Eventually we bend over even smaller prongs to secure the diamonds.

    Hi Niels @ vandoorenniels, why don't you drill through the cross? I prefer to drill through so it is easier to clean in the long rung, but I'm seeing more and more setters doing it the the same as in this video. I also split my claws before beading them, just find that to be easier. but it does take up more time.

  • @heinikendude

    Jacques Roux thanks for your question. I normally don’t drill through because there is no need to do so. Also in this case there was a big engraving on the back of the cross.... ;-)

    When i set stones the thermoloc heats up too much from the drill and gets soft, meaning that my piece moves and therfore stops the drill working good. How can I avoid this? Thanks

  • @heinikendude

    @heinikendude

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Triple Six, If the theemoloch heats up to fast you are doing something wrong. It could be that your drill bits are not sharp enough and you therefore have to push to hard. My drill bits go in like into warm butter. But I also only use carbide tips, which are much sharper than traditional ones. Also use some lubricant to cool down the drill and ease the drilling.
