Thanks for your comment, Grant! Klaus is a fantastic caster! He uses a line called the Opti Flex on his single hand rod. Then he has a Loop Scandi Head, but I don't know the precise model. He designed a series of rods called the Opti NXT as well.

North 40 Fly Shop Master Caster! Learned a lot. Wish I could do what he can. On the other hand I wouldn’t give a red cent to fish with this gentleman. I find him diminutive of others, exclusivist, and elitist.

You would use an overhead cast for upstream. He’s spey casting which is for casting across and down stream.

Oh Klaus is awesome caster the new Göran Andersson! I meet him at the river bank at our river in Älvkarleby the lower part of DalÄlven a big long river in Sweden. He had a glass rod and a big heavy salmon reel and a half DT 12 sink 2 and he cast as far as 150feet whit that old rod and line as shooting line he use'd a mono line for spinn fishing a 25lbs regular line. That was 1980 winter day coold like 15f or -15c. I'm use big rods 15-17' at spring whit ledcore lines of 850-1050grain and 40-50lbs shooting line of mono type. And short leader like 5-6ft that brings my fly deep and slow ! And to get it deeper I'm walk the cast down ! How I'm do you might think. I'm cast first then take the steps down this make my line fish even deeper. And I'm use heavy tub flys in 2-3" of brass or copper. And I'm catch fish when most dont ! Nice video as always from MR Klaus 🙏 Bjorn from Sweden 🇸🇪

What we are trying to show is what he does with his hands close to his body for line control and casting, however it wouldn't hurt to have a different camera angle to show the result of the cast. Thanks for bring that to our attention and we'll keep that in mind for future videos.

This gentleman creates anxiety in the pupil by disparaging other styles of casting and common casting mistakes. Great caster, but could benefit from a class or two in Adult Education at his local university. Respect the pupil and keep it positive.
