A Drift Inside - Göran Andersson on the Deschutes

Спорт

www.lelandfly.com/Loop-Pro-Store/
Recently, we joined Göran Andersson (pronounced Yo-Rawn) of LOOP for a float trip down Oregon's Deschutes River. Göran invented underhand casting, also called Scandinavian casting, in the middle of the last century, and has been perfecting the techniques and associated gear ever since. His ability to fish with little to no back cast space, in addition to his near-superhuman oneness with the fly, have earned him the nickname "Magic Man". Key to his casting style are deep-flexing rods designed for a compact casting stroke. We feel lucky to have spent a little bit of time with him on the river, which, whether located in Sweden or central Oregon, is definitely his natural habitat.

I love this video. I love how much he loves our river. I had many of the same feelings the first and every time I'm there. You're more than welcome back any time, Mr. Andersson.

A true legend of the spey!! I learned so much from all those guys in Europe, and scottland, and gary scott, frodin, Iain Gordon, Jon from Ashland fly shop. I owe it to all of them. one very important thing I learned from the guys in Europe is they don't rip the line off the water, they are more stealthy in there presentation, they don't disturb the fish that way, and it's help me catch more steelhead around lake michiagn rivers. thanks to all!! cheers

Really great film. The tempo , selection of music, scenes, and fascinating subject. Goran's voice stays with me well after viewing. In it so much truth we all seem to carry but recognize immediately when he shares it. If I made films.....this is how I would like them to turn out. much respect

The title lol, it's Göran's "swinglish" (mixture of Swedish and English) "A drift inside you" makes no real sense, but "drift" in Swedish means an urge or a drive and the term would be more like "en inre drift" - an internal drive.

What I find strange is that being right handed he still winds his reel with his right hand too. This means he mostly plays the fish with his weaker hand and often has to swop hands around when playing a fish. strange.

John Jones Goran essentially invented this style of casting and has a reason for everything he does. I don't have the answer for you but here's our take. His right hand is more dominant and can retrieve faster. His left arm is just holding the fish while fighting and isn't really doing much. There may be another reason such as line getting caught on the handle but I can't confirm or deny. Finally, Goran may have grown up in a time where all reels where right hand wind only and has just stuck with this out of habit.

Everyone in the know, knows this is not a roll cast! Different mechanics, different cast. Similar in appearance but not close to the same cast. Scandi or underhand casting is something you should look into learning lightnin Hopkins

Underhand casting? it's a roll cast, anybody that flyfishes West coast rivers either does it or spends alot of time untangling lines in brush. I am sure he is a fine fisherman and flycaster but you need to see Jim Teeny roll-cast a fly, then your talking master. But above all Jim Teeny is a master fish catcher.
