I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

I've enjoyed a couple of weeks with Klaus in Iceland in the past and I can attest to his instruction/technique! Truly a joy to be on the water with.

Oh it's nice to see it been done in proper way ! Göran Andersson did show me the underhand cast 1980 and at the time I'm was fishing a 16' rod had a DT 120' line. We meet at the river bank. I fish both DT lines and Scandinavian heads and now even skagit! On single handed rod a short heavy skagit of 250-400gr and 17-20' long is a killer because you fish the most difficult places there is! And whit no effort you cast 70-100' or more . I love the fast roads for single hand fishing 9-11.6' just enjoy watch the casting. And as less you splash as better fishing as he even says ! Swedish sea trout or salmon is spokey and on our big opend rivers whit different anglers in front of you that effects outcome of your fishing day very much. Björn 🇸🇪

I must have watched this a dozen times trying to learn touch and go casting. A lot of it finally clicked for me today and I'm getting good line speed on the snake roll and oddly enough the cack handed single spey. Still a little bit of a challenge getting my anchor setup on that one. So cool when you get touch and go cats to actually shoot line.

The guy who taught me to spey cast asked me one question as we walked to the river, "Are you left handed or right?" I replied, "Right handed Mr Morris," he replied with a malicious grin, "Well we'll start with your left hand then!" I am still equally comfortable off both shoulders when using double handed rods. I have really enjoyed the move to the more Scandi based tackle and slightly shorter rods, especially as I have reached 60+.

I started in UK whit 16-17' rods 11-12# Aftm same for me my favourite rod is 13,7' fast progressive action short stroke! And it's so much less effort. It's a 9/10# and I'm use 525-550grain head and it shoots as a rocket! Because of the setup. I known Göran Andersson from 1980 as we meet at the river. He come up whit this style of casting many years ago! Sure I love thow a long full DT line and I still do it when I know it out fish the shooting head system. A DT line of 100-120ft have a different swing in the water then the head system. But this is a different story. Glad more people get the Scandinavia style up in the world. Great showmanship Klaus, I would be happy to spend time and learn from you as you seem like a fun guy but can we have another video that involves more technical information. There is a ton of great nuggets in this video but I have to re-watch this a ton of times to pick up on them. I wish I could edit out the antics, which was fun to watch the fist time but to get to the important parts is tiring. The information you touched on here, about changing whole heads to enable fisher person to fish at different depths, while not having to change your casting stroke is interesting especially for faster sinking heads, anyone who uses tips knows the heavier the tip the more difficult they become to cast. I know you also change types of running lines, example: for a floating head, you use a coated running line and for a sinking line you use mono, the explanation was hard to grasp. I also know you use the Opti drift line for some of your demonstrations but I don’t believe this series has different sink rates again, Why? There are so many different lines out there I could easily spend more money on lines than any piece or combined piece of gear I own, if I’m going to invest in three different heads and different running lines for more than one rod you have not made this “easy”. I’m willing to pay for a set of lines if I can see the whole picture and how Loop is ahead of the game. I really want to be a bigger Loop fan, help us out here Klaus, make another video and get technical we can handle it. Oh by the way, we can see a scandi caster from a mile away because he wears he roles his waders down half way and he walks around with his casting elbow glued to his ribs.

This is G.Anderssons Underhand casting and he spoke about this more than 30 years ago. The name ``Scandi`` came much later.

Oh yes Gäran Andersson did come up whit this casting in 1980 at that time he cut a regular DT12 in half ! And use'd a 25lbs regular mono spinn line as shooting line ! That was the start of this technique. I know him from just 1980 we meet at the riverbank at our big river DalÄlven. But it's so true that short strokes give a tight loop. My loop is not a D shape it's more like a V or thin U loop. Because of that I can go fast but to be able to I'm use long leader to anchor if not it blow up in the back of me. Now the last times I'm use a skagit whit a 10' tip on that I'm use a 12' taperd nylon leader and ohboy it shoot as crazy the weight is a 770grain body and a 110grain tip plus leader. Then I'm anchor only the leader and like 5' of the tip. Like touch and go style ! And it's a killer on our big rivers who is very deep and wide. This is the big river rig and the rod is a 15.6' 4 piece deep action but hi carbon blank.

Is a rod dealer with a perfect dream casting technique!! No a single mention on the casting principals, is all about ...do this, I’m that, you can’t..., like we all are build the same as he is...,sorry guys, but is not teaching how to cast, is showing how to sell his brand rod market products and fishing destinations. Nothing wrong with that if you funny and make casters having a good time before they decide to buy the products presentation from the caster dealer. magayanes69 he is talking about efficiency in casting. The touch and go cast works with any rod. Rod technology these days has narrowed the competition so that there really aren’t any bad rods. A scandi can be performed by any rod. The strongest cast a 2hand rod can make is the single spey for line speed. The mechanics are all about placement and timing. He addressed both of those well. I would have enjoyed being there for this presentation

He don't need to mention or mock the traditional spey casters guys in pvc waders or ''misspell'' the perry poke at pronunciation to make a point at 4:20! Low move, stick to what you are doing best, a beautfully spey cast display, base your teaching in to the pleasure of sharing your skills by representing your roll casting techniques roots. Im sure his mentors didn't teach him the casting principals by stepping in to other styles of casting techniques. Again love his technique!! All my instructors, mentors, fly shops owners teach me and inspired me with this fundamentals to be share. Any one can find it at the FFF. Good instructors: • want their students to perform well • suppress their own ego • demonstrate instead of displaying knowledge and skills • are patient, listen carefully, and encourage questions • avoid lengthy discussions, demonstrations, and explanations • allow the student time for self-discovery • balance critique with justified praise • try to convince the student that he or she alone has made the discoveries that allowed them to reach new plateaus in fly casting. Poor instructors: • demonstrate big egos - focus on themselves instead of the student • are poor listeners • are disorganized • don’t set high enough standards Best Mag

I didn’t find his style arrogant but I know just what you mean as there is a popular spey caster whom I find to be a total gas bag but others do not so go figure hah! Its important to note I do really admire everyone at AFS. SurfSkagit Absolutely!!!!!!! Can’t agree more. The objective as a “teacher” is to decrease in importance so as to disarm the listener’s self consciousness and lower his/her anxiety. Anxiety gets in the way of learning. “Focus” is different, however. I strive for student focus - the heightened awareness of intentionally learning something new. As a teacher, I am present to facilitate the learner’s (I don’t even use the term “student” as it creates a power differential not conducive to learning). How many times does he say “I/me/my”? I prefer “we/us” to “me/them”. Sets a bad precedent for the casting session. That said, I learned from this video as he is an accomplished caster, but relationally speaking - as for spending time with this gentleman on the water - I’d pass. Can think of a hundred better casters than myself that if rather spend time with.

he gets it out there well but has lots of spray, zero aerial mend and no up stream cast- short drift.

Claus, you are an excellent fly caster and an excellent entertainer. Besides the fact that about 3 or 4 of your explanations were just wrong, you showed well what you have mastered to do with a fly rod. However, expressions like: “In Scandinavia, we do it this way!” or “That’s how we do it in Denmark, …” do not fit into such a demo. You learned everything you showed in this demo from one single person who was co-owner and co-founder of LOOP and dedicated all his life to developing this technique that you showed throughout the film. Not with one single word you mentioned his name. That’s really a shame! Why not start like “Today, I am going to show you what the Underhand Technique is all about. It’s a very efficient technique that is also known as Scandi Casting in the US. It is a technique developed by a very smart fly fisher from Sweden called Göran Andersson.“ After such a 30 s intro, it is no problem to show all that you have learned from him. Being far away from Europe does not mean you should sell the achievements of others as your own. Well, you only did it indirectly, but not mentioning your grandmaster’s name is not the way we instructors should behave on demo platforms. Please, give credit in the future! Klaus do a very good job! Sure he should name Göran Andersson I personally think. Göran cut his first line 1952 and he use a split cane rod back then ! The first cast he make give him a giant trout! Why he cut the line was because he fish tight narrowly spots whit no backroom! And I got to know him in person 1980. But I'm happy he show the world this technique. I fish my own setup for sea trout a very short heavy head and a slick mono shootingline that very effective as we deal whit lots of wind. And I have made my own lines to resent. The new lines are so good just pick right length and weight and you ready to go. The swed 🇸🇪

Surely a great showman and an excellent caster in the Scandinavian style. But that's not an instructor. An instructor follows a teaching methodology, talks less, doesn't make as many jokes, and demonstrates movements slowly and repeats them, without being funny. I definitely dislike watching that video

I am not really sure, because I can not see it clearly, but it might be a Single Handed Spey line of RIO, or similar, like LTS or OPST. LTS and OPST lines are a short head Skagit joined with a running line by a loop to loop. Rio One Handed Spey line is an integrated line of 82' length. The taper is 34' length and that line is incredible. I fish with a Single Handed Spey Floating line WFF # 8 RIO since four years ago and I am very satisfied. Best wishes.
