    What Wes Ball did with this movie astounded me! Continuing the story of Caesar by exploring his legacy as an almost religious figure was brilliant. On top of that the VFX were immaculate and the performances just as impressive. An epic return to this world that has me wanting a lot more! Sorry it didnt work for you man. Great review!

    Great take I saw your review and how you really enjoyed the movie which is awesome. I did feel that while it didn’t work for me that much I could understand why so many people enjoyed it. I know I have the hot take here and definitely agree on the VFX being near perfect. I want these movies to succeed because they are so cool but I thought this one doesn’t live up to the trilogy that came before in my opinion. Always a pleasure chatting Zach!!!

    Finally someone that feels like me prox did not live up to expectations he didn't do anything ! Nothing about him made me go like dam he is a bad ass king nothing about him screamed villain or protagonist hell the girl played more of a villain role than he did gave that boy one fight scene and in that scene he dies 😂 😭 very underwhelming but some parts worked majority did not I found myself hoping rocket or some definitive ape showed up from the last series outside of the one we got

    Its not the worst story, but it aint the best either. I liked Noa and his background and friends. Proximus was not the best intention for a villian, because he was right in a twisted way. And Mae... was the thing that made me dislike the movie... She was meant to be somekind of patriot... but she is just proof that man kind should not have survived at all... -_-

    I felt there should've been explanation about what has happened in the past three hundred years. I spent a lot of the time drifting off thinking about other things rather than enjoying this movie, it was just too bland. The writers couldn't figure out what to do with the story. I spent a good two or three hours thinking about what I just watched and I came up with nothing. The villain was very disappointing, I wanted Proximus or was hoping the villain would be a character that would be talked about for decades and would be up there for best villain of all time but sadly that didn't happen. The only exciting thing that happened was when the hawks killed the villain and that was it. I wanted this movie to stand on its own and introduce new ideas to the series but it fell flat on its face. I won't be watching this movie again.

  • @anttheace1699

    took them forever to introduce a concept which was I honestly don't even know apes just like humans but humans somehow still worse because all she does is lie and then hide a gun behind her to kill him if needed. took them forever to introduce characters most of which wind up not mattering at all by the end of the film. we get no big fight. all we get are one on ones. why do people like this movie besides for what it sets up in the last 20 min. most of the movie was a string of call backs to older films the camp scene the apes on a cross scene the slavery and the beach.

    In my opinion, Rise was a far better setup with many standout moments a narrative cohesion that lead to some well earned payoffs. Its emotional core was also much stronger than Kingdoms. None of Kingdoms concepts or characters feel as well conceived or woven into the narrative. It kind of felt like a dry hero's journey plotline Ive seen to the point of it being boring.. Not horrible, but just not tantalizing or surprising like Rise was.

    I’m glad you enjoyed the film!! I think that was one thing that I preferred in the previous ones but I just thought the way the narrative was handled in the previous ones as well was far superior. Rise instantly connected us to these characters, Dawn really nailed that tension between the humans and the apes and War does a great job of showing how devastating that virus became. Kingdom to me lacked a lot of the emotional weight that the previous films had and without a character like Caesar it just feels like it’s missing something. I don’t want to dampen your experience with the film, as I said I’m glad you enjoyed it and had a great time but that’s just how I felt watching this movie.

    The first movie in a new trilogy, is always a little lackluster, spending alot of time introducing characters, I feel it is harsh to compare it to 2&3 of the first trilogy with a much more established cast and story from the offset.. Directly linked to the first trilogy? It's set almost 300 years later, come on bro lol I guess being the outlyier with your opinion did cause me to click and comment, so well played!

  • @kaneeddy

    @kaneeddy

    SOME SPOILERS AHEAD: Just to clarify the comparison to 2 and 3 was only put in the video because I felt that Kingdom took elements from both of those movies. The tension between the apes and humans is a big part of 2 and having certain apes become slaves and the humans becoming primitive is present in 3. Even if we just want to talk Rise and Kingdom I much prefer Rise. I genuinely love that movie and I had no trouble connecting with the characters and being compelled by its narrative. I do feel like it is directly linked as Caesar is frequently mentioned and his funeral is in the beginning of this film. Sure it has a new set of characters but it is still trying to be a continuation to the themes and ideas that were present throughout the previous trilogy. I definitely have the hot take and I’m so glad that people are enjoying this more than I did but that is genuinely how I felt about this movie, I will always approach film criticism with honesty even if it is an unpopular opinion which in this case it was.

  • @AndySomething
    @AndySomething2 ай бұрын

    I've just seen it, and despite enjoying it I think you made a lot of very salient points and I wouldnt argue with much of what you said. I think it does feel like a bit of a rehash of some of the themes of the last trilogy. It's a very safe hero's journey that I think is mostly well executed. And I found the pacing a bit slow in the first half, but not terrible. I think I differ with you in that I actually really like the characters here. Especially the three younger apes; their intro and camaraderie on their egg hunt made me really care for them. I actually think the Ape introductions in this film are as strong as the introductions we got in Rise, outside of Caesar of course. I do want a noticeable change in direction for the franchise though. Something fresh with new dynamics at play. That was what I was kind of hoping for with this film, but I guess they are using this film more of a starting of point to introduce us to the characters, pay homage to the prior trilogy and then hopefully forge something new in the sequel. I do think we're going to get that with what looks like the Icarus set to return, given how much space and communication are highlighted here. I'm looking forward to the next installment. I guess what is great is that Caeser trilogy really does stand on it's own. You can make that your head canon, and just pretend everything else doesn't exist if you dont really jive with this new trilogy.

  • @kaneeddy

    @kaneeddy

    2 ай бұрын

    Exactly, really awesome to hear you enjoyed it more than I did. I can see a path where the next films can build off this especially with the more interesting concepts that this introduced. But I think a change in directors might give this what it needs. Wes Ball clearly had passion for this movie and I don’t want to discredit that but I think a more talented director could really fine tune this and give this the focus it needs to be excellent. I think because this movie clearly links back to the previous trilogy I can’t help but make that comparison and especially since Rise started that trilogy I think the difference in quality to me was night and day. I really connected with Caesar’s journey from the very beginning and had no trouble enjoying that movie and here I found that to be a different story. Also thanks for being respectful I like having these conversations even if we disagree on some points. I know I have the hot take and a lot of people love this but that was truly how I felt coming out of the theatre. As mentioned I’m super glad that you were able to get more enjoyment out of it than I did.

    I loved this movie. The story and the characters completely. It's quite obvious Noa is Caesars descendant, they even have the same birthmark. Some people, who aren't true fans, need to be reminded that this is 300 years after War, where there is now relative peace with the exception being what the pretender Proximus is trying to cook up. The story and entry is magnificent.

  • @kaneeddy

    @kaneeddy

    I’m glad you enjoyed it, the movie has made it quite clear that it is a significant amount of time after war but there is still tension between the humans and the apes. That is the major question that this movie wants to ponder on if they will ever coexist and if the Apes will be Better than what the humans were now that they are the dominant species. Proximus stokes the fire of this conflict of ideologies between the apes, those who follow Caesar the right way vs those that took his words the wrong way. As I mentioned I quite liked those aspects of this film but other than that I don’t know if this needed to exist.
