I love the hypocrisy of Proximus. He claims to follow Caesars words, yet he has his kingdom go out and kill and capture other apes , violating the "ape no kill ape" philosophy Caesar created, under the excuse if his other teaching "apes together strong" to excuse his violent actions. He's also into Roman history, and I realized that I like the contrast of the two Caesars influencing Proximis. So he blends their teachings into the worst version he could possibly end up being, a violent conquerer of other apes who burns other clans and tortures any who resist the glory of his kingdom.

Proximus' hypocrisy was evident in every line he spoke. Half the time, he would talk to Noa about apekind banding together against mankind and evolving as a species. Then on the other half, he would talk about "my vault" and "having apes to spare" on throwing against the vault door. Like the best villains, his valid points and utter bullshit were tightly intertwined.

One thing I LOVED about what they did with this movie (spoilers obviously) is when they had the human reader read history books to Proximus, specifically history - showing that Proximus was hearing about Julius Caesar this entire time and was convinced that this was this the Caesar that lead the apes. Just explains why he has such a skewed mindset with how he runs his kingdom. The continued worldbuilding in the movie just expanded on the setting from the trilogy in such an amazing way

The “What a Wonderful Day” scene was one of the deepest parts in the entire movie. Proximus using Caesar’s words which were originally meant for good and twisting them into something very bad. It also shows how religion can quickly become a cult if it is misinterpreted and people are misled.

Reboots tend to turn a lot of people off, but the Planet of the Apes reboot is probably one of the most well received reboots of all time where even the OG fans seem to enjoy it. It shows that reboots can be good when care is put into them and they’re not just a quick cash grab. I loved the movies with Caesar and exploring his character arch throughout the movies. I’m glad to see that the franchise is finally getting more recognition because it’s very slept on overall and doesn’t get near as much praise or attention as it deserves.

Actually, I have a thought about how Caesar's teachings got so twisted. Aside from time, being many generations after Caesar, they had a human that could read. The old guy read to Proximus, and he said that Proximus' favorite info to learn about was Roman history. The apes are getting hearing about Roman Emperor Caesar and thinking that it's the same Caesar they worship as their progenitor. So they know "ape together strong", but they're now also learning how Caesar led a huge army and conquered those around him for the Roman Empire, so they're following the "wrong" Caesar's ambitions

The rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy is probably one of the most underrated franchises of our time. It’s not necessarily ignored, but doesn’t get near as much recognition as most other franchises do. Which is a real shame because the movies are so well received by almost everyone. The CGI is absolutely incredible and the story telling is so well done. Caesar’s character arch in other movies was phenomenal and his character truly represents what a leader should be. Koba’s character arch was also interesting and showed how hate can destroy relationships with your loved ones. When I heard it was getting a 4th movie I was both excited for it, but also nervous that it wouldn’t live up to the other three movie’s expectations. I’m glad to hear people enjoyed this movie and it’s giving the franchise more spotlight.

Noa was definitely a great character, and is perfect leading into how the world became the way it was in the original movie. I see him adopting technology and innovating more, helping build ape civilization. While he has a good heart, he also clearly has no innate compassion for humans like Caesar did, and I could even see him leading the charge to war in this new trilogy. Edit: Also, this movie is great at show don’t tell. When Noa saw the model of Saturn, you can tell that’s what he first saw in the telescope from how he reacted.

The most impressive part being that this franchise has had several directors but they all feel like they were made by the same person, like they feel as if they have all had the same vision and the progression of the story has just made so much sense crafted from beginning with care where it is believable that a scientist trying to cure Alzheimer's and play God would create a chain reaction leading to a new evolution of a species. from the beginning and watching rise to this is one of the best prequel-sequel film progressions maybe ever honestly.

In the original series, there are 5 films and part 4 and 5 focus on Ceaser. In the reboot with ceaser dead, it seems they will focus on it becoming a full circle and the reboot will be like the beginning of the original films. A very interesting take but I think it will go far.

It's interesting that the main tribe is the Eagle Clan considering that the Roman flag was an eagle. I wonder what the Clan will turn into over the next movies considering that Noe said he's going to make the clan stronger, that he agrees with Proximus, and doesn't know how humans and apes can coexist. And they're likely going to become more militarized as they face many more threats both from apes and humans
@thomabow8949Ай бұрын
I think Mae's inclusion wasn't exactly "flat' more so than a more stoic and guarded performance; it's supposed to inverse the first trilogy where apes are under-estimated and turn out to be extremely dangerous. It also is necessary to explore the theme the new film and its upcoming sequels explore regarding human vs. ape coexistence. I enjoyed her part in the film, especially because of Raka's openness to humans because of how they were to Caesar and how this shed Noa's biases, and especially how this all turned out by the end

Rokka was definitely shafted, but in a "Hero's Journey" kind of way where, once the template was established (see: "The Mentor" trope), you could immediately guess where it was going. Kind of the same thing with Mae (see: "The Lancer" trope). The story is more of a character study that uses the classic Hero's Journey cycle.

I don't think any of us expect something extremely deep and profound from these movies but for the trilogy of the last 10 years, they literally haven't missed. This has to be one of the greatest and highest quality franchises of the 2010's and 2020's. Just non stop, consistently good movies. I'm glad to hear you appreciated the latest one and I look forward to it.

You can watch this without seeing any others tbh as it's many generations later. Might even be interesting as characters have opinions based on stories of the original trilogy but aren't 100% accurate. I think it would have been neat to watch kingdom then go back and see how the truth has been warped by time and the narratives characters want to push. But if you do want to see them only the last three, rise, dawn, and war are in this films universe

To be honest, it did feel like it kind of insinuated, based on the trailers, that we would get an ape character and a human character finally be friends with one another, or allies in a way (kind of like how Malcolm almost became that in "Dawn of The Planet of The Apes" with Caesar), but in the film they didn't flesh out Mae as much as they could as an introduction to her, though I don't think her characterization was awful per se, and she also didn't exactly align to the fact that the Apes are basically their own people now; she also stated that the world didn't belong to the Apes, but back to the humans. I don't think she is yet to believe that maybe humans should be looking towards coexistence after rebuilding themselves, instead of domination. I just hope that at least in one of the future films going forward we can get that coexistence or friendship. Apes together, strong. All together, stronger.
@xproflipscarab
18 күн бұрын
Big problem i have with her character now is that it just doesn't make sense at this point in the timeline (100 - 300 years post WAR for the pota). The fact that this film is set so far into the future now but still having the Humans (who are the most intelligent beings on the planet) still act like entitled racists is beyond stupid... The Apes at this point are just people now, only limited by cultural experience... The Humans know this and should act like it, The planet doesn't belong to Human's in the first place never mind now only a handful are left on each continent. For Ape's as intelligent and forward thinking as Promixmas [Minus his selfishness and dislike towards humans] they should be looking to communicate and bargin with... Teaching apes how to read human languages and basic but powerful science... Just giving Ape communities the ability to read science books on figures like Newton, Tesla, Eeinstein, Etc. Would transform the world for the better nevermind figures in biology and chemistry... I mean come on simply giving Noa's Primitive tribe a bunch of children's first word books would give them the ability to unlock centuries of human knowledge that exists in the buildings around them...
@anothercarttogo1819

@@xproflipscarab Yeah, admittedly it does feel out of left field from Mae to not see the Apes as their own people, and it's not necessarily that she really states as such, but it is implied that she doesn't fully believe them to be; plus they may know *of* the Apes but don't try to interact with them unless they have to - or interactions with them had already been negative (such as Proximus taking over a human settlement to create his kingdom). The only thing that I can see happening here is that she, and generations before her as well, were raised being told about how humans deserve and even have the right to take back the world and become the dominate species again. It does still feel weird, but because we haven't yet seen how humans have been living these past few centuries, maybe we might get some answers as to why there are humans who still think this way.

Spoilers in this comment regarding Mei I found it weird that she was trying to oppose Noah towards the end. Especially the scene where she hides a gun behind her back cause she doesn’t trust him. If the market department was trying to put a human in the movie for relatability, it makes it hard to relate to someone who didn’t have good intentions at the end, when we already know our protagonist is a good character and helped her accomplish her goals.

This is a really good review, but does Charlie not know this is more than a trilogy? In the beginning he’s talking about it like the trilogy is all there is to the story. There are 8 other movies and a TV show. The series started and played out way in the distant future. The point of the trilogy and this new one are meant to fill in what happened between the present and the distant future we see in the very first Planet of the Apes. Making another after War for the Planet of the Apes isn’t extending a finished story. We already know how the story ultimately ends and how the planet dies and the subsequent alternate reality that gets birthed from it because of the old movies. Now we’re learning how it got to that point.

The Planet of The Apes Movies are some of the most slept on films from the last decade, It's always good to hear people enjoy them.

I liked how they passively made Noah into a Caesar with the “scar” he received in the beginning on his shoulder area as Caesar had a birthmark there too. I also predict that Proximus Caesar isn’t dead but with the injuries he received at the end he’ll look like Koba.

honestly knowing where the book goes i was so in the camp of 'fuck the humans'.. but i think its either that they have to have atleast some humans in the next films to have a B plot or they havent decided whether they want to go the route of the book where Humans devolve into just animals that the apes control.. its honestly probably both because the moment Mae and Noa talk at the end i was really hoping for a conclusion that Apes now believe humans are irredeemable or something but they do the very obvious cliffhanger of "Can Humans and apes live together?'

Thanks for the review - I've been rewatching the trilogy with a buddy recently and had no idea another film was in our midst. Feeling extra moist now so thanks!

I thought it was really good too.

I know people are at first thinking there is no need for more planet of the apes movies, but I just want to say to those who are unaware that this series is a reboot.

Let's see how this new trilogy will turn out.
i love how they twisted ceasers teachings and merged them with kobas ideoligys
@xproflipscarab

@anothercarttogo1819

Is it just me or are they hinting at making the storyline into the OG movie where they’re in space. Towards the end when Noah and his friend go to the telescope there is a stone carving of an astronaut and Noah and Meg both look into the stars at night. Just a theory.

So excited for this
