This deleted scene from director Peter Jackson's King Kong-included in the extended edition-showcases another of Skull Island's prehistoric predators: the Piranhadon. Snapping up Carl Denham (Jack Black)'s crew in the swamp, it exposes the cynical capitalist for what he truly is.

To me this scene is great for a few reasons. CGI being well done especially for 2005, not having a "Red Shirt" boat, and like most large predators, the fish doesn't kill you on contact when biting you. You have plenty of time to suffer on the way out making it far worse.

@A.I_Play

@@thegoodfather1177 the water is way too clear for a swamp water filled with bunch of algae on top. You can't even see the bottom of it meanwhile while underwater, you can clearly see objects 5-10 meters away. And the scenes also lack on details as you can see while the piranhadon chasing the main character. It's so clean not even a bubble or muds were floating around the character. It kinda ruined the atmosphere (dangerous swampy water). Also, the camera works looks way too calm for such an intense moments it kinda makes it looks so lame instead. And if you swim underwater, you don't move in slow motion. You'll be moving in normal speed with more preassure. And it is not the same with moving in slow motion. You can find a bunch of movies with intense underwater scenes and you can clearly see the flaws in this scenes without even know the basics of movie making. The eiditing also got some flaws. As you can see in 4:48, the water ripples so much because of piranhadon. But in 4:52, looks like nothing happened behind them. I'm saying this not because I can make a better scene than this. This is the scariest scene in the entire movie. Not because of the Scorpio-pedes or even the Piranhadon, but the "sailor" that died at 5:26. He wasn't actually part of the crew. There are very clear shots showing all the men on the rafts and he isn't on either of them. What was he really, and what would he have done to the crew if he had gone undiscovered? It can't have been good. There is one extra (who can be seen to the left of Jimmy at at 1:05) who is neither on the shore at the end (or in any of the later scenes) nor shown to have been eaten by the Piranhadon. I highly doubt that it was the Piranhadon that killed him. The rest of crew probably never realized how much danger they were really in. Even though it killed two of them, the Piranhadon might have very well saved the lives of the rest of the expedition.

@Lightspeed Retro The different areas of the world would look a little similar to those today. The difference between the biome would be the climate (which was warmer in many places) and the constituents. The vegetation was somewhat different, e.g.. no flowering plants the place of which was filled with ferns, but fulfilled the same role. The trees were coniferous much like today, with fossils of redwoods, yews, pines, and many more being found. The animals filled similar niches to what we see in environments today. For example, some parts of the Jurassic biome would look quite like a Savannah in Africa (without grass as it hadn't evolved yet), medium-sized carnivores (relative to larger species that evolved later) such as Allosaurus would perform a similar role to lions (i.e. pack ambush predators smaller than their prey), with sauropod species (and other herbivorous dinosaurs) like Diplodocus filling the role of the wandering herbivores (like wildebeest etc). Some insects were quite large during this time compared to now, but much smaller when compared to earlier periods in Earth's history. Oxygen levels had decreased since then, and this is the fundamental limit on the size of arthropods on land as they breath through small holes in their exoskeleton and do not have lungs to facilitate oxygen exchange, though quite a few species also have gills (crustaceans etc). You can basically take any biome be it forest, sea, or plains etc and assume that different species would fill the same role, as they do now. The species then were larger yes, but I don't think the world would be any more hostile or alien than it is today (which is quite a bit). Most of the larger species were herbivorous, though in aquatic environments there were giant marine reptiles, giant crocodilians, giant fish species (Dunkleosteus was pretty terrifying though existed in the Devonian). I think the sea would be far more terrifying than the land concerning such times.
