I'm 54, and have been an avid fan since day one of the release of Fatal Portrait. That and Abigail are still my all-time favourite metal tracks to listen to and to still be able to play (guitar), to my nephews in an attempt to explain what they missed out on. It was a fantastic time to be alive.

As a 14 year old on acid who attended this show at the "brawl room" in Chicago, looking into this mans face as he sang those lyrics was mind bending, soul twisting, and eye opening. His contribution to the genre can only really Be appreciated by the few. When you identify yourself as a king diamond fan to someone it's like you both know a secret handshake.

King Diamond and his other band Mercyful Fate were precursors to Black Metal and were most definitely part of the first wave movement (more so Mercyful Fate), along with Venom, Celtic Frost/ Hellhammer and Bathory
