    i love the phenomenon where something is powerful only because its not used. like if fishing rods were the meta they would be easily countered, i mean for one that slot is better used for totems or rockets for crossbow, or a shield, but its being used by a fishing rod. not to mention the pulling back although useful could also have just been a pearl. and the visual obstruction is solved via a resource pack. anyways yeah i just think its cool that something is good because its not used. it certainly helped in the fight, especially at the end pulling them back when you ran out of pearls

    That is how certain historical militaries managed to turn out so successful. The reason Napoleon managed to conquer so much of Europe so easily is because his strategies weren't expected by his enemies at all. They expected traditional warfare, but he combatted them with his own obscure strategies which caught them off guard, resulting in insanely successful campaigns. The same happened in WW2. The German military used Blitzkrieg strategies which were, just like with Napoleon's case, so unexpected by their enemies that they managed to conquer Europe using them in less than 3 years. The sheer speed of the tanks and aircraft rushing toward the enemy lines were irrestistable as the enemy armies were prepared for trench warfare, which is designed for long wars of attrition, which the Second World War was the opposite of.

  • @oswaldrabbit1409

    @oswaldrabbit1409

    @@FilipSrbin hmmm, while I agree the skilled and unexpected strategies he and his army could implement played an important role in his victories, I would say with Napoleon a lot of it had to do more with the effectiveness of his military bureaucracy and his logistical superiority, and the general superior training and professionalism of his army. I suppose they also support each other, since with a better organized army with better trained and superior officers it's easier to implement sudden changes in strategy and tactics.

  • @lythd

    @lythd

    @@FilipSrbin hm i think that for both of those examples although the surprise helped, they were simply superior strategies too. unlike this which is only good because its not expected, if ppl were aware of it it would be trivial to stop (resource pack can be gotten very easily) whereas in ur examples its also not easy to stop even once ur aware.

    9:20 Sapient gamer cat discovers "lost" pvp technique Edit: Sidenote, the pvp combat handbook does have a few good tips. One of the first things that really started me on getting better at pvp was... well, fighting mobs. Also, mushroom stews are the cheapest way to get potion effects, so like... yeah. Not a bad idea in a pinch. Having a second set of armor would help a lot, as we can see in the fight. He lost a helmet, it was pretty much game over there. The fishing rod is a very valid technique, especially against floaty mobs, but also against players trying to escape. There's several useful tips there, but it takes a sharp mind to read into it enough to learn.

    Own a diamond sword for home defense, since that's what Mojang intended. Four players break into my base. "What the devil?" As I equip my enchanted armor and blade. Stab a villager's nose wide hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my crossbow on the second man, miss him entirely because it's laggy and nails my teammate's wolf. I have to resort to the dispenser mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with arrows, "Tally ho lads" the arrows shred two men, the sound and extra arrows set off cow moos. Equip my trident and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since trident shaped wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as Mojang intended.

    I cannot believe the fishing rod slipped out of PVP since I stopped playing- it used to be a common tactic years ago and judging by this video, there was literally no reason for people to stop using it. How such a great tactic slipped away I don't have a clue but seeing it is nostalgic as hell for me.

    These guides are generally outdated, but a few actually still hold valid (such as Island Spawns being crap, turning a coal vein into a first base cave, and even most the redstone and builder's guides are good for beginners

    Unironically the combat book is a handy reference for when you want to do anything with potions. And that’s about the extent of its usefulness.
