Bucket of water is the best weapon, pour it on flat land and push any mob back. Its even more a treat with depth strider boots to gain advantage in maneuverability

​@AdaTheWatcher I had a similar situation but I was new and instead googled up that you need any fire started at the portal frame, and that wood starts burning next to lava. So what did I do? Crafted a crafting table out of wood that doesn't burn (now it burns lol) and waited for like 20 minutes for the fire to appear. It did work but I could've just died instead since I didn't have anything of value anyway.

I remember when my dad got me minecraft in 2014 he and me made a lot of dirt housed on the flat world's (since we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't let us make normal world) and we ended up making a nice little dirt house with a railway inside so I can move around and it was really fun :) I miss playing classic minecraft sometimes

I remember not too long ago I was on a world with my friends and we stumbled across a stronghold under our village. It’s was really small and had no portal. I copied the seed in creative and blew the thing up and there was nothing. That was my first time finding a stronghold legit too
