It's basically a podcast!

I am leaning more towards not taking the orbital marker light and spend my EP on two high intensity one on interference op and one on my bloodied, one drone repair on drone controller and two target analysis on my weapon experts. I feel the 3ep for the orbital is to expensive for something that may only be useful once as your opponent will be aware of spacing after the first use.

Definitely enjoy batreps. FWIW, personally, I don’t get much from watching dice rolls. Much prefer a more narrative approach: “this guy shot that guy, got all crits and took him out” or “took a shot but forgot to charge the pulse pistol and missed” summation.

Really enjoyed the batrep and seeing your new Tau on the table!

Yes! And annoyingly I forgot to mention it in my summary. I am trying to play relatively strictly with myself when it comes to "once dice have rolled, things can't be changed". So if I forget to tell me opponent there is AP that's my fault and I need to remember it for next time. I just played Necrons the other day and forgot about half the time that I had AP1 until after the dice had been rolled. That's on me! As either they rolled really well so you're telling them to reroll a good roll which seems gamey and like I'm a sore loser.

How convenient, the two teams I am considering picking up!

Turn 2, looks like the wyche fighting your gun drone is a fighter with a shardnet/impaler. That should explain why you only rolled two melee dice. Shardnets reduce the attack characteristic of enemy operatives in engagement range by one.

dice in the tray; laying flat= valid. dice out of tray or in tray cocked: reroll.

This was fun to watch, I like that you used the tac ops. I haven't seen them used much. I love Tau and am glad they are fun to play. I’m getting my box next week. Any tips or tricks you recommend from your first game?

Interesting matchup; it makes me wonder what a bespoke Drukhari team might be able to do in the future.

Was it a conscious choice on your part to not use the Stand and Fire tactical ploy? It seems like it would have been really beneficial when your Ion Rifle was charged by the Wych.

It was very intentional, yes, because Pathfinders don't have access to that ploy. That is a Compendium Tau (Hunter Cadre) ploy, this is the Tau Pathfinders team from Chalnath. As with all bespoke teams the faction keywords are not the same as the Compendium so there is no crossover in rules :)

Those Drukhari minis look amazing. They look custom. Are they available somewhere or personally kitbashed?

Are those Moon Base Klaisus boards the same size as Kill Team boards? I was gonna get a copy but I read they were a bit larger, can anyone confirm?

They are annoyingly larger, yes. I think the cut of this was 22.5x34 but it was all the flgs had.

Interesting. At least the width is similar and they're just a bit longer. For my table, width is the bigger issue so I guess I might still get it. I really like how the base/outpost design joins up, we haven't had that style of joining urban boards since the OG kill team set.

One point that I think would improve this style of Battle Report would be to either show us the movement or use overlays and an arrow. I like to know where a model has moved from as I'm not able to track the whole board as you are zoomed in on the models. So either video the actual movements or use stills with arrows when talking about "Model X moved up to here from here."

Ahh yes, well that's where we run into problems. So, if I filmed every movement then it would basically be how I did my previous battle reports, which simply aren't worth doing. They end up taking 16 man hours and get 2k views. So that's out (sadly, as I think my old batreps are some of the best videos I've done!). I'll look into some way of marking movements... it might end up as a single summary shot at the end of the turn. I agree with you, though. But I'm just trying to actually get videos out and the less effort the more likely that's going to happen. I'm back at work properly now and simply don't have time to edit a "good" battle report anymore. So the question becomes do we want 1 good batrep a year, or 2 passable batreps a month.

Can tau marker light a enemy behind cover and concealed? Or obstructed and concealed if they are visible?

Markerlighting ONLY requires visibility, not line of sight, yes :)

@@GlassHalfDead so the transpectral interference pathfinder using the new broken walls terrain from chalnath can stand 3 inches away looking through the busted window, and use marker light and shoot using multi spectral sensor ability that disregards obscure

Is it unusual there a no UK killteam tournaments for next year yet or is it just because of the time of year?

I think the LGT company plans to hold more tournaments for it, potentially up to 3 in the year, but at least 2. They just need a TO for it. I did the last event but I've since decided that I don't want to be a TO for anyone other than myself from now on. There are plenty of other people I'm sure will be willing to TO!

Any thoughts on the Pathfinders vs Compendium Tau? I feel like Compendium Tau are better with the Stealth Suit concealment trick. Thoughts?

I think Pathfinders are better and no one will question that, if I'm entirely honest. Stealth Suits are an interesting mechanic but I don't think they stand up next to what the Pathfinders can do.

Minor lore nerd correction: I believe the Blooded Pathfinder (assuming you assemble it with the head that GW used) is female. You can tell by the shape of the head slit, on femaleTau it has a "Y" shape

Really enjoyed the batrep, one minor crit would be that im not take by the vid sections being in portrait. Ive never been a fan if lard blackout areas on the left and right of my screen.

Great battle report. With their new rules do you think Tau will tend to just see 2 teams of pathfinders with Stealth suits and Fire Warriors being rarely used due to having no new rules ? For those with existing models, so you think the new upgrade sprue is necessary ?

To be clear, the way Kill Team does its list building is that compendium teams are NOT compatible with the bespoke teams (from the boxes or white dwarf). They all have different faction keywords so can't be mixed. So the Pathfinders team is pathfinders and drones only as shown in the Chalnath book. I've seen some people make good conversions for the pathfinders, so the sprue isn't needed. Personally, I like to, but if you enjoy converting, it's possible :)

The tokens have been available all this time, yup! They have nothing to do with me, I just picked them up off the guy's shop art-of-war-studios-ltd.myshopify.com/collections/kill-team-2021

I personally would get more enjoyment if there were more stills as opposed to video of the dice. I "watch" most batreps similarly to how Ben described on the podcast: They're on in the background while I paint, and I look up occasionally.

I agree. Only my second time doing this format and ended up recording a lot of dice rolls. Ultimately, the rolls aren't supposed to be the point of this format, but it's what I had. Going forwards it will be much more picture heavy and probably no rolling.

As Tau player I'm wondering if you dont have too many operatives? as you can have 10 operatives + recon drone? how did you manage to include another 2 dnores to it?

You have 12 slots to pick from. I only took 1 gun drone and 1 recon drone. The leader is an ADDITIONAL operative. If you don't take a recon drone you can have 13 models on the board.

Congratulations on the battle report, I really liked the format for the length and the focus on what was relevant. On the other hand, stop with that hipster nonsense about not using your tau XD, they look too good to stay on a shelf !!!
