Kidney Transplant Recovery - Week 4, 5 and 6 (Advice and Tips To Help Recovery in 2019)

In this video, I talk about how my kidney transplant recovery story (2019) from week 4, 5 and 6. I talk about what happened during each week and how I felt physically and mentally.
During week 4, I was asked to come back and spend a few more nights in hospital so my doctors could perform a biopsy. The results from this biopsy were very eye opening and caused lots of changes to my medication.
In week 5, I managed to spend more time at home and only had to go into hospital for my regular check ups and to have my staples removed.
Finally week 6 was my least stressful week and I felt I had finally turned a corner and things were starting to improve.
Hope you enjoy 😊

Wow I guess I was lucky. I did not have a stent or anything. I was back to college and work at an assisted living facility week 4. My creatinine is always 0.4-0.6. Sorry you had a rough go of it.

Wow your creatinine is fantastic! Hoping mine gets there soon. Its strange you didn't have a stent - at least you didn't have to have it pulled out of you 😊 hope you're still keeping well! 💜

I'm hoping to get on a transplant list soon. I am worried they'll say no because I keep losing weight, and I don't know why. They're not taking any fluids off at dialysis, and I'm eating as much as I can. It's hard to find food I can eat that's high in calories, but low in sodium, phosphorus, and potassium.

Im 51 days post transplant and my creatinine has been gradually going up to 1.8 and stayed at that for 2 weeks since my last test. Today im going to have it checked again and if its higher again my doctor said the next move will be biopsy. My doctor said it could be acute tubulr necrosis since i didnt stop bleeding for 3 hours right after surgery and they had to do blood and plasma infusion just to make my blood clot and stop the bleeding. Im not worried but i sometimes cant help but think if it will ever improve or am i gonna have to go back to dialysis again.

Ahh I'm so sorry to hear about your issues post transplant. And that thought of 'will it ever improve' is something that's been going through my head over the last 2 months as I've also had issue after issue. I was so confident and excited about the transplant I never really gave much thought to what recovery would be like. Its a grind everyday but one we know we have to stick at. We've been giving a second chance and we'll do everything to make the most of it. Sending postive vibes your way my friend - hope things settle down soon!

Are you avoiding the sun due to the immune suppressant drug ?

  • @TransplantFitness

Yes before my transplant I was only taking Mycophenolate (MMF) and was avoiding the sun. Since my transplant I'm now taking MMF and Tacrolimus (Adaport) and I've been told to wear sun protection whenever I can. Even if it's not hot, as long as the sun is out I've been advised to use sun cream.

I took a lot of those meds before I started dialysis. I had a lot of side effects. I guess I was hoping they would have improved some of the meds. Have you experienced gout as a side effect or any hip pain? I’m trying to chose between staying on dialysis or going with a transplant

  • @TransplantFitness

I'm going to be taking my MMF and Tacrolimus for the life of my kidney. I did experience gout before my transplant but haven't had it since and haven't had any hip pain. I had my transplant pre-dialysis so I'm not fully aware of the struggles of dialysis. What my doctor told me though is dialysis is only a way of sustaining your quality of life whereas a transplant will improve your quality of life. It must be a tough decision but make sure you ask all your loved ones how they feel and make the decision together.
