From the drugs wearing off to the no sleeping, from the catheter being removed to the gas that got pumped into you, from always being worried about tugging to not being in pain to it definitely being better to heal at home... You guys have described my journey nearly to a T after donating my kidney a few weeks ago. You guys are amazing thank you Mark and Jason

Thank you guys so much for sharing your experience with us. I’m actually going to be donating a kidney next week. This video has been super helpful and truly reassuring. I’m donating my kidney through the Paired Exchange program since I wasn’t a match for my older brother. My brother received his new kidney today from an anonymous donor, and in return I will be giving my kidney to a different recipient. Very happy you guys recovered and are looking well. This video is a true gem. Definitely helped me mentally prepare for the upcoming operation. You guys are heroes. Thank you thank you thank you!

Transplant Fitness yes he’s doing great, thanks for asking. Discharged after 2 days and holidaying in Egypt 2 months later. He too had a lot of pain with very little in the way of Pain Meds. I’m ok I suppose on that score, I have Chronic Pancreatitis and take Oxycodone and Oxycodone for that. As for the Fentanyl Pump and Epidural, I told them to take them out as they weren’t helping much and to just give me my Oxycodone, I wasn’t on the slow release OxyContin then as I refused to go back on it after it nearly killed me. I had an Opiate Buildup when I was on Dialysis, not literally. It’s basically an overdose as having no kidneys it wasn’t being filtered out enough. I needed something for my Pancreatic Pain as well as the Oxycodone Liquid ( OxyNorm ), it took a lot of persuading by my Transplant Consultants, telling me I have a fully functioning kinder and I would be kept a close eye on, for me to go back on it.

You blokes are awesome! I'm going through the testing process at the moment, big day Monday, 24 hr urine test on Sunday goes to the lab, and bloods done for group and Creat. Fingers crossed they are good! I'm hoping to donate to my neighbours daughter, cannot understand why i'm actually excited to try and have a kidney 😅 "ripped outta me"! This is awesome info, i was actually a bit put off by having something shoved in my ...., but you made me feel better knowing they do it after i'm in dreamland! Hmmn, 3 weeks recovery, plenty of guitar practice! So you are a couple of years in now, how are both of you doing, It would be awesome to get an update vid, to let people know of any "mid term" issues you found, or mid term benefits, for both of you,(of course living is a pretty good benefit!). Many thanks for a such an honest feedback. Makes me feel good about my decision (strange but when my neighbour told me the first thing i said was where do i get tested, not a hesitation, and the only thing i'm alergic to is PAIN!). As a wise man once said, Live Long and Prosper!

I'm donating a kidney Friday 18th. Not going to lie, worrying about the pain after and the sodding catheter. Im told im getting morphine I control in the hospital, and either soluble morphine or cocodamol for home. Im potentially being discharged on the Monday, pain management depending, so I'm hoping im going to be up and about for Christmas day to watch my daughter open presents relatively pain free.

@@avtarsinghmalhotra7492 Heya, I'm currently 19 days post surgery and still in discomfort. The side they took the kidney from, left in my case, just feels heavy and achy. Not painful just uncomfortable. My back aches constantly, and I mean constantly, but they told me they cut a lot of muscle on my left side so think my back is over compensating for the weakness in that side. No issues with the peeing side of things except it smells stronger, number 2 is a whole other issue, I cannot go without laxatives and I cant bare down at all. Incision are healing well, I had 5, 1-2" sized for the keyhole part, then a large approx 6-7" Incision in my bikini area for where they pulled the kidney out. Aching but no pain. Cannot lie on either side, can only lie on my back, sleeping a lot and end of the day I get stitch like sensations in my sternum and left side. I have my 6 week check up end of Jan where they'll test kidney function, bloods etc so hoping by then ill be moving around better instead of bent double like a little old lady.

They took my left kidney & after surgery they shifted me to ICU for two days & rest 3 days i was in general ward. First 3 days i was in extreme pain. after surgery for 2-3 days i didn't feel like number 2 but after 3rd day i used bathroom my own coz i didn't like to take help from anyone cleaning my shit. I started walking on 8-9th day my own & 11-12day i started driving which was risky & after few days i stopped it. My surgery was in the month of sept but in the month of Dec i am feeling bit pain in my right side but today i ate some crisps & now i am felling pain in my right side beneath the ribs. I consulted doctor, she said i might be due to acidity & advised me medicine for 3 days. I wish it would be just acidity.

@@benicebehappy the 1st month is the hardest (specially for the pain and discomfort while sleeping). It has been 2 months since I donated and i'm back to work (i have a desk job). I can drive and walk a lot now but i can't use my full strength and I still waiting to get better so i can get back to the gym... Sometimes i still feel discomfort around my abdominal area... I'm not able to run yet and i try not to light heavy stuff still (i lift normal stuff but nothing that will require my full strength). @@BDRioga Morning, good to hear your recovery is going well. Today is 5 weeks post op. The back ache is significantly better, incisions on the outside look like they're healing well. Still swollen, heavy feeling and uncomfortable in the lower abdomen area. Ive tried a couple of short walks but surprising how much energy it uses and it triggers the aching off. However, it is massively better compared to those first 4 weeks. I still have bad days where all I want to do is sleep and the pain comes back, but overall definitely better. First check up is Wednesday so hopefully that comes back as things are all ok. Im not back at work until April 6th (my job is a lot of driving and walking/bending/stair climbing on construction sites), so in the meantime I'm giving the ps4 a good workout and hoping to try and start some gentle exercise in the next couple of weeks if the aching eases off. Hope your recovery continues to go well.

It will vary dramatically person to person. Im in a donor support group, I was bed bound for around 6 weeks and could just about shuffle to the loo and back. It took me around 3 and a half months to get back to semi normal but even now 4.5 months on im still getting burning/ripping sensations in my larger scars. Others in the group were up and moving around normally within a couple of weeks.
