Did you watch the movie on Netflix? She spent everyday thinking about her son. She put up a card every year for his birthday. And then when she was finally free, they tell her not to have contact with him?? I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Michelle’s story is heartbreaking beyond words.

She couldn’t help the people that was coming in and out with her mother and the boyfriends, and other family / people. Read her book you will see. It could happen to anyone. Wrong place wrong time, trusted the wrong people type thing.

I agree I believe once child is 18 the adoptive parents have an obligation to tell child if the ask about parent especially since a adult has right to know. I understand its not good tell children but once kid is 18 they should have to tell the child if asked.

@@Yousayimcrazee She said that initially, but since the year 2020 he's been legally an adult. Unless the parents just never told him, the ball is in his court. We also don't know how well her son is doing. Maybe he has behavioral issues where it made sense. News reports say that the family has shared pictures with Michelle and let her know how he is doing, but that's it.

Whats even more shocking is that she has the gall to say that Ariel made a mistake even though he allegedly beat 5 babies out of her(a complete lie) but she cant forgive Amanda for getting dealt with a shitty operator and not getting the time to mention her name specifically for the clout(Amanda did mention there was two other women in the house).

Sad that her sons adoption was somehow legal. Statutes of limitations should go out of the window in a case like this. I am an adopted kid and know that they will hate their parents, when they find out that they denied her. If I was the adoptive parent, I could see the injustice and want her in my child's life.

Who gives the adopted parents the right to make such a decision that she CANNOT see her child?? That's ridiculousness, and I hope she is able to see her child sooner, rather than later. The Law and besides that, good parents do what's in the Best Interest of Their child ! Good for them. If the Kid's an adult he can make his own decisions. Maybe he or she doesn' t want to meet his or her biological parents. Not every or maybe even most adopted kid do not have that desire. Even if they do, most of the time it doesn't end up in a succesful and lasting contact. Their only real parents will always be the adoptive parents.

Joey will find you one day and be incredibly proud to be born to such an incredibly brave and strong woman. However in the initial days of your release he would have been a young teenager and the trauma of your story and the attention surrounding it may have been extremely difficult for him. You needed time to heal also as strong as that urge was to be reunited. In saying that, it's been years now and I hope he has been given the information he needs and one day when he is ready he can one day meet you. ❤️

What I don't understand is that her son was 2 years old when she was abducted in 2002. That would mean that he is a legal adult now. Why would his adoptive parents have any say at this point in 2020?

They wouldn't have any say legally anymore, but, remember that her son was raised by them and would have emotional ties with them. If he feels or knows they don't support a reunion, he might feel too guilty and would prefer to remain loyal to his adoptive parents wishes. It sucks and is selfish on the part of the adoptive parents to be unsupportive like that but I can see a child of legal adult age refusing to reach out because of it. They are made to feel like they would he betraying the parents who raised them. I feel bad for Michelle.

She could have easily gotten herself a really good lawyer & went to court to regain custody & reverse the adoption due to the circumstances but she didn't. She made a very difficult decision to NOT proceed with it. She did that because of the love she has for her son, she did not want to traumatize her son by taking him away from the only parents he knew since he was a small child. And this is how you repay her? Are you people that insecure?"

Are you crazy. The son didn’t know her hasn’t been with her since he was two or three. He was a teenager maybe 15 when she got free. No court would ever grant her custody for the pure fact that he lived most of his life with his parents and doesn’t know her. Obviously she loves him but I think all parties involved made the right decision. He is an adult now so if he wants to seek her out he should be able to.

@@pugfan6866 I would guess they are more worried about losing his affection. Most adoptive parents have this fear even though it is generally unfounded. She has become a celebrity, written books, been on numerous talk shows you can see how they might think he would want to run off and live with his real mom especially knowing now that she didn't abandon him. Nevertheless it is cruel to both of them to keep them apart. She clearly has shown she respects his parents and is grateful they have given him a good life. They should show her the same respect.

I absolutely love her and has especially prayed for her strength and stability as she continues her healing journey. Very happy for her.

Michelle essentially went from her early 20's to being almost 40 in 8 years. I'm talking in reference to all her life experiences since being freed. She's changed quite a bit in the last 8 years. Being held captive for 11 years left her development and life experience delayed. That's why she seemed less mature for 32/33, sorta naive to the outside world, that's what I mean. She learned the hard knocks of being in your 20's at age 34/35; figuring out who her friends were, etc. Once she found herself, she travelled the world, had a book tour, got married, bought a house, etc. She did all those things in 8 years. I'm almost the same age as her and have yet to do a lot of the things she's done. She deserve happiness and hopefully one day she can reunite with her son. The pain in her face is heartbreaking when she talks about him.

Well, actually I've read she lost custody of her son before she was kidnapped. But, in her behalf it was circumstances out of her control. Michelle's mother is a complete fluke! Michelle is an unsung hero as she delivered Amanda's baby, then when she wouldn't start breathing, Michelle saved her by CPR under the duress of the monster threatening to kill her.

It's like she's being victimized all over again by not being allowed to see her son. This is not ok and rules need to change on that. She did not willingly give him up. So she should be able to able to see him at times
