This version of My Male Curiosity is the best I've heard. With its jazzy keys, cool guitars riffs and rhythms, not to mention live performance...Lyrics are great, backup dancers are exactly what the doctor ordered, musicians were bang on and the overall idea for this song is very relatable: you got a good thing but you're tempted by another. The musical era that this stems from was very, very strong and may explain why this song wasn't a super smash and yet it cleans the clock off of anything recent, hands down. The music of 35 years ago was so much, much better. Like all good things it had to go, I guess. Just another example of change not equalling progress. So long, 80's music. Love Ya!

this performance is pure perfection. This is the art of entertainment at its highest peaks. Everything in this stage performance is simply perfect (apart from the (in)famous hairy armpits, not so unusual way back then, though..). Some people say Michael, Prince, Madonna, and Bruce owned the eighties. It is true in global hype, and of course talent and work. But man, I saw the live shows, listened to all the albums more than I should have,. Kid Creole and his lot should have cleaned up. There was an authenticity, a purpose. I heard one single on KROQ in 1984, and, I was struck.. I combed record stores over the next few years, found so much grand diversity, I really today, can't do them justice as to what the music gave me. The music I found back then was a result of the present, past, passion, erudition, wit, discipline of whoever was of the camp Creole. I still feel very privileged I stumbled upon them way back then.

He was an amazing performer. I think esp in this clip he, and the girls are very good. The 'BooHoo' section is just flawless. But in a way he was a bit of a one trick pony. I think the Zoot Suit thing carried for a couple of tracks, and then it became something of a curio, and not more. I am just stating this because -yes, IMO he should have been bigger, and I am trying to figure out why. Prince and Michael embraced this look here maybe for a minute, or one video, and moved on to "Purple Rain" and "Billie Jean".

This might be the most perfect song ever written and performed. Everything about it compliments itself. It's mathematically PERFECT. This song was created at the perfect time. I don't think it would have been as good with just anybody singing it. Kid Creole is perfect. I think he wrote it or was one of the writers. The band is perfect. You can't really hear it on this video, but on the soundtrack to "Against All Odds", the combination of both techno and pop, again, compliment each other.

Now, that is so perfectly well said, ant10279, that you've nailed it completely. Like you, I have always felt the same way about this song from the very first time that I heard it in a large video bar in Greenwich Village, which inspired me to see the film 'Against All Odds' BECAUSE of Kid Creole's perfect arrangement, which is THE most extremely well synthesized video that I have ever seen (and, that's a large pool of competition). What an impressive tribute (and homage) to Kid Creole's mentor, the late Cab Calloway. He is, hands down, the Master of 'Techno/Pop' coolness like no one else!

I was the location manager/coordinator at "The Palace" nightclub where this was filmed. Unlike Kid's earlier videos with TSE Productions, the movie's B unit director handled this 6 camera shoot. It took 9 takes, the musicians are playing live, but the song's studio track is also on playback with them. There is a great staccato baritone saxophone accent note in the studio recording, but there wasn't a baritone player when this was filmed. For those of you old enough to remember the 60s, the club this was filmed in was the setting for the TV show "Hollywood Palace" in the late 1960s. Continuity on this movie was a constant problem in the final edit. One thing that always bothered me about the follow-up scene, is that when Terry and Jake are up in Jake's office, which was filmed days before Kid's performance, the music switches abruptly from Kid to a Mike Rutherford track.

Love Ya!

Don't know where you lived in the 80s, but girl's with hairy pits were rare in the developed part of the world where I lived.

For those of you old enough to remember the 60s, the club this was filmed in was the setting for the TV show "Hollywood Palace" in the late 1960s. Continuity on this movie was a constant problem in the final edit. One thing that always bothered me about the follow-up scene, is that when Terry and Jake are up in Jake's office, which was filmed days before Kid's performance, the music switches abruptly from Kid to a Mike Rutherford track.
excellent find!
Found it! I loved this song- So luxurious and sexy. It Came to mind last night. Started with a hum, then a few lines of lyric, finally remembered part of the chorus and now I'm here. Just going to bathe in it awhile, and allow those warm memories to wash over me. Thank you

This is, no doubt, the best performance ever delivered by Kid Creole. Nothing that he did before or after, came anywhere close to this one.
J'adore this man and his coconuts!
Totally underrated. Totally forgotten in France (where I live). I wonder why this amazing band was not more famous. They got creative talent, recreate the 20s atmosphere, got a great sound and choregraphy. I guess their mixed influence disturb and they got "too much" self irony and humor....
Wow going back to the 80s I was in the 7grade Charles R Drew..... Janet Ross it's been 30yrs..wow
I watched to this scene in a movie, Against All Odds, almost 30 years ago... Never forget both the music and the presentation.
Brilliant performance. The filming does the song justice. The Coconuts choreography is immaculate (as always). I love the armpits, but mentioning that by way of a compliment somehow sounds a bit odd

This was directly out of the film Against All Odds. A decent movie. Very 80's
I love it that the Coconuts didn’t shave their underarms
