Kibler's Woodsrunner Review
Inspired by an original rifle, commonly referred to as the "Woodsrunner" which many believe to have been made in the valley in Virginia during the 1760s.

Congrats on an exceptional rifle. Had m y eye on a Kibler Colonia rifle for a while.
Have a colonial in 50, hoping to get an SMR later this year. Kibler makes a great product. The woods runner is definitely tempting though!
Just got my Kibler Colonial in 50, cant wait to get her together!!
Outstanding video. Kibler should give you a commission. I bet you sell alot for him.
I LOVE when I hear someone tell me that a flintlock rifle isn't very accurate out past 100 yards. I have a flintlock Traditions Kentucky .50 rifle, hardly the gold standard when it comes to quality guns, it's not a bad gun but certainly not on the level of a Kibler or Pedersoli, and offhand at 125 yards (the longest distance at my local range ) I can put roundballs into a man sized silhouette with ease one after another offhand and would bet it would keep them in one out to at least 150 yards. Too many people have gotten into thinking that the only muzzleloaders that are capable of getting good accuracy past 100 yards HAS to be an inline and has to be wearing a scope. During the Civil War Jack Hinson was whacking Union officers from a bluff on the Tennessee river with what was essentially a .50 percussion Kentucky rifle out to 300 yards and better on moving boats.
Great to see your Woodsrunner put together and running. You did an awesome job! Good shootin’!

SMR 45 here, probably will get a .36 at some point. I want a Woodsrunner really badly but will have to build it from parts on account of the cast off. I need a 3/16" cast ON and nothing else will do. Good news is Kibler sells parts so I can get everything but the stock and can build it from a blank.
Good Morning guys. That Kibler is a fine musket. Kibler is known to be one of the best builders of muskets in the U.S. The only thing I have to compare is a Pedersoli Frontier, which is like comparing a crab apple to a Red delicious. You stated it came with a swamped barrel which is sweet, but what is the weight and is the Lock an L & R. I myself am building a North west trade musket with a L & R Lock. Great video guys.

Thanks Ethan! I have 1 ordered in .54, haven't been waiting near as long as you, anticipation is putting it lightly. Back in the 80's my buddy and I at BP shoots would ring a 9 inch iron skillet at 200 yds reliably with 45 cal flintlocks, we got bored with that and started shooting at 250 yds I could hit 4 outta 5 x! All off hand, no bench rest..

Really nice shooting offhand. I thought my last couple flintlocks would satisfy any further desire for another - and then I heard Jim was reproducing the Woodsrunner - a rifle I've thought was just perfect from the first time I saw pics of the original. I like unboiled linseed oil as a stock finish you can reapply it over the yrs as needed. I like curly maple or walnut stocks too. I plan to buy one later this summer..
Beautiful, great video thank you.
I keep wanting a Kibler, but between bills and the need for food. Wonder how long I can feed the kid bread and water before I get in trouble, and I can read by candle light. Walking is good for your health too, maybe the wife will like walking to work, it's only 12 miles or so, that's half a marathon. People run those all the time.

I ended up waiting 9 months but that was because they were having a hard time getting Green mountain to send them 45 caliber barrels which is what I originally ordered mine in. But I see that they just drop the time down to 2 to 4 months. So I will tell you this. It is definitely worth the wait
I'd be very careful charging the pan directly from the horn,it's just possible for the powder in the horn to ignite.
I just got mine, very excited. Question: did yours also have a hole through the wood, right above the lock? It's about an inch long and without the barrel you can see right through to the lock
I want one so bad!!!!!!

Quality made flintlocks are accurate out to as far as the rifle will throw the ball, provided the marksman knows his rifle well. Hence the age old adage "beware the man who shoots one rifle".

Just beautiful. I will be buying or building a Flintlock rifle soon. My biggest hang-up is overall length. I know that Kibler's Colonial and SMR are too long to go in either of my safes . shooting homemade powder,, have you chrono'd it compared to swiss?? i just switched to swiss because it is so much cleaner burning & cleaning is so much easier. nice shooting, nice video,, super rifle!!! idaho lewis shoots his muzzleloaders routinely out past 1000 yds!! @Real11BangBang

no i have not cronagraphed it but itd the same mix as every thing black powders and as far as when we shoot swiss out bullets drop 2 inches lower at 150 yards and ours tends to be cleaner then goex not quite as clean as swiss

@@Real11BangBang Chrono testing shows "swiss" as several hundred fps faster than other commercial powders.. (the testing i'm aware of is with conicals in caplock).. Your making great powder if its "clean" as swiss!! Good job! Chrono it,, maybe your making the cat's meow powder!
