Exactly, the reasonable price for normal cars should not exceed $18,000 and with good maintenance during 10 years you can use the money difference of these pricey cars $5,000 - $8,000 to maintain your $18,000 car instead of buying $24,000-$30,000 cars & paying extra money for maintenance & spare part once the warranty expires which is ( 1-3 years in my country for Toyota & Honda ! )

I live in Calgary and I'd owed Honda's since my first car, until I bought a 2011 Sorento EX, and I'm still loving it, she's at 245,000 km (150k miles) and only visited the mechanic 2 years ago to get the front suspension fixed, at the time I had as well a 2006 honda civic which in 2014 I decided to replace it for a new Forte, and today, after 100k miles it hasn't been at the mechanic or the dealership for any repairs. Only things I do on my cars is brakes and oil changes. I still love Honda's but Kia has earned my trust.

KIA cars were all junk before 2012. My 2006 KIA Rio has 175k and its plagued with many electrical problems and more. The ECM fried at 150k miles (still runs okay), catalytic converter blew up at 100k miles, timing belt exploded and destroyed the cylinder head (cost $1,800 to fix), automatic transmission was sluggish and has sloppy shifting since it was brand new, and the radio and a/c climate controls are glitchy and they change the settings on there own. I had a 2006 Honda Civic, drove it 72,000 miles before totalling it. Under warrantee I had to have interior trim replaced, driver's side power window motor replaced (twice), passenger side power window motor (once), rear passenger side power door lock replaced, power trunk latch replaced, and air conditioning went out and took a month to fix in the middle of summer. Thank God I'd gotten an extended warrantee. Brakes were done at 60,000 miles and the guy at Midas was shocked, said he usually saw cars like mine go through brakes in about half the time. After totalling it I got a Hyundai Sonata. Long story; I'd been trying to negotiate the price on an Accord but the dealership refused to negotiate, so I went across the street to the Hyubdai dealer to spite them. I traded that car in at 52,000 miles with not a single problem. I traded it in on a Santa Fe Sport (2.0t). It's 7 years old and I've put 96,000 miles on it. I've only had to replace a fuel pump under warrantee and I'm currently having a problem with the transmission fluid temp sensor, which is getting repaired under warrantee. Those have been the only issues with it. No interior trim falling off, no power window or door lock issues, the brakes are still the factory set but will need to be replaced soon, the battery was finally replaced about a month ago. I just change the oil every 5,000 miles and she keeps treating me well. After paying off the Santa Fe I bought a 2018 Accord, before the 1.5t engine issues became a popular topic. No major issues mechanically, but I'm seeing a number of fit and finish issues again; trim falling off, not properly attached to begin with, and now chipping paint is becoming a discussion topic that has me worried. Suffice it to say, I've been more impressed with my Hyundai ownership experience than my Honda one. The only reason for getting a Honda over a Hyundai IMO is the better driving dynamics.

@Skyelord Phoenix It's my first CVT and honestly it's not bad. You have to get used to the peculiar operation. We routinely average 35mpg combined on the Accord so if that is the tradeoff, I'm ok with it. I'm just frustrated that after owning Honda vehicles for over 25 years, this was the first one to break down on me. With the oil dilution issue on their turbo engines, my eyes are starting to drift towards other manufacturers when I put my 2003 Pilot out to pasture this summer. My confidence in Honda has been severely damaged.

Jury is still out on the longevity of those more highly stressed newer engines, but the 07-08 Elantra is every bit as good as a Civic or Corolla. 250k miles is nothing if you bother doing minimal maintenance, especially oil changes and timing belts every 100k.

I've owned both brands (a Civic Si, an Accord (6MT), an Integra GSR, a Sonata, an Elantra, a Sedona, and a Odyssey). The only problems I ever had with any of the cars was with the gears starting to grind (syncros) on the Si and the GSR, and with the Si/GSR engines burning some oil at VTEC. I'd factor in owner "abuse" or "lack of maintenance" as a major factor in how long any car lasts.

I've always been impressed with how sturdy my 1991 Honda Civic was, as it's chassis and rear bumper were built like a truck, which I found out about from a side-swiped collision it was in. Possibly one, of many, reasons that car dealers scrimp on warranty work: Pressure from the auto makers when it comes to reimbursements to the dealers. My brother used to work for Isuzu as a parts-and-service zone manager, where he did well in the company when it came to minimizing the dollar amounts of warranty repair claims the car dealers were making to Isuzu. Basically, part of his job was was to contend with the dealers, and customers, about the merits of warranty repair claims; as he would either approve or deny the claims . . . which meant that either Isuzu would have to pay-up, or not, to the dealers. So, with that kind of approach with looking after the financial bottom-line, dealers could likely do the warranty repairs "on-the-cheap" and not necessarily do it right. I can imagine that the short-term financial savings done by Isuzu, ended up with long-term ill-feelings by customers, with likely no repeat business. As an aside, my brother was working for Isuzu in 1991 when I was looking for a new car, and he could have cut me a good deal with buying their Stylus. I drove the Stylus, where I thought it was a "tin-box" with its three-speed auto transmission. The Honda Civic, on the other hand, felt solid, with a four-speed transmission. To say the least, my brother was miffed by my choice of the Honda over the Isuzu. But, the 235K miles I put on that Civic confirmed I made the right choice.

Turbo, transmision, engine failures, whels, turbo cooler or something like that. Problems problems problems. I am a huge volvo fan but if kia is reliable i might buy a 2011 kia sorento if its reliable after that many years? What do you think? I also prefer stick over auto. Bad thing is that i drive 4km total per day

Ok, I had both. I first had a Civic and it had 450,000 miles and then got stolen in 2012. Parts ripped out, it was a shame because engine and transmission where going strong. So I went to look to buy 2012 Accord but during that time, you needed to buy the EX-L (top of line) to have hands free Bluetooth and satellite radio. They also were expensive, $30K. So I got a Hyundai Sonata, they had a base car with leather (they were trying a local company) and it came standard with Bluetooth and satellite for only $21,700. I drove a lot, a year ago I took my car in for taillight issue and just mentioned that engine ran rough at times but rare. They ended changing my engine out under warranty even though I had 118,000 miles at no cost! I got a great deal with both cars so I don't think you could go wrong based on my years of experience with both brands.

7 months ago I brought second hand 2014 Kia Ceed SW 1.6CRDI 6speed manual for for 8000USD. Car had 128.000km on the clock only two owners, it looks like brand new inside and outside and it runs great, no error or any code... After less then 2 months both front LED day running lights start to flicker and after week or so they both stop to working. I thought OK, big deal... I will replace them myself, how hard it can be.. BUT! These KIA LED daylights are sealed inside of headlights and they can not be replaced separately! Basically you have to replace whole headlight! In Kia service repair cost for replacing two front Headlights was 2400USD!!! CRAZY! Luckily car was still under warranty and KIA agree to replace free of charge both headlights and other stuff that I reported: noise in rear left wheel bearing, driver seat-belt mechanism(it was sticking), cabin air fan blower(it had clicking noise when running)... Cost for all that repairs was over 3200USD!! Almost half of the car value! Thank god that I had warranty! In meanwhile when my Kia was at the service on those warranty repairs I was still driving my old 1991 Honda Accord 2.2L which has 225.000km on the clock and it runs perfectly, I never had problems with it and I brought it for 600USD years ago... Best buy ever made! My Honda was cheaper then my mobile phone that year and car passed last year inspection without a single error or glitch and it burns no oil. BTW, that day/night light bulb on my Honda cost 3 bucks to replace, cabin fan still runs nice even after 29 years as well seat-belt mechanism, wheel bearings etc... Everything still works great on my 29 year young Honda Accord Best car I ever owned :) P.S. Something tells me that my 1991 Honda Accord will outlast my 2014 Kia Ceed SW :D

I have a 2014 KIA Soul+. Just turned 50,000 miles trouble free. I live here in Arizona where we are in the triple temp. digits most of the summer and the car runs great. It has had three cross country round trips to New Jersey. It is a great long trip touring car.(7000 miles each trip) I traded a Toyota Highlander in on my Soul and it is the best move I made, This is my 49th car and without a doubt the best.
