Honda Accord Sport vs. Kia K5 GT Comparison Test | Which Sport Sedan Is Best? | Price, Specs & More

It's Honda versus Kia in this sport sedan comparison test! The Honda Accord has been at the top of our best sedan list for years now. At Edmunds, we named it our Top Rated Sedan for 2020. But 2021 is a new year, and with it brings a new competitor: the 2021 Kia K5. As the replacement for the long-running Optima, the K5 burst on to the scene and topped the Accord as the Edmunds Top Rated Sedan for 2021.
In this video, Mark Takahashi takes these two popular midsize family sedans to our test track. But we didn't take just any old Accord or K5. Since this is a "sport" sedan comparison test, we have the sporty versions of the two top midsize sedans: the Kia K5 GT and the Honda Accord Sport. These sport versions have more performance, power and speed. Can the Kia K5 GT out-sport the Honda Accord Sport? We answer this and a whole lot more in our sport sedan comparison test. It's the Honda Accord Sport vs. the Kia K5 GT!

Just got the GT-Line with premium package installed. So is somewhere around 35k. So definitely price competitive especially considering it's AWD which you don't see that often in this class of sedan. Car is absolute knockout gorgeous in passion red. It handles surprisingly well & is a lot more comfortable than the Honda I used to have. If you go for the EX that is nicer than some BMW's I've been in. If they have given that Trim in the GT-Line They would have sold like hotcakes. But then it would have cut into the Stinger sales so I guess I understand that. Personally they should have just had three trim levels. But still is a much better car than I was expecting. :b

There's no denying the accord but I'd go with the K5 GT. Too me it's just more exciting and it looks better. I'm not gonna be going to the track with the car so I could care less about not being able to put power down out of the corners I won't be taking corner hard and the car also struggles taking off from a stand still due to traction issues but where it shines is merging and passing power. Great for highway pulls and that's where I drive the most. Honda just doesn't excite me anymore. I'm not even that excited about the TLX. I guess I been with Honda Acura for a while and before that I know what to expect and it's more of the same and that's a compliment. I've just out grown Honda and Acura it's time to venture off and see what other brands offer and the K5 GT is definitely a bull's-eye. I feel the exact same way, exact. I have a 2.0 Accord and it is boring me. I actually just stopped by the Kia dealership and am seeing the K5 GT for the first time and it is a slick looking car. I have a tremendous appetite to trade this car in right now for either an N-line or the K5 GT. The deals on the N-line are signifant and a dealer is trying hard to get me to buy one. The big issue is that I really want a Stinger with the 3.3 liter but at the moment is a bit out of my price range. I know if I get one of these 2 once the euphoria wears off I am going to still wish I had the Stinger. At the end of the day these cars are still too similar to the Accord despite some added features. The other thing has to do with launching the car. Conditions have to perfect and you have to have expensive tires in order to get the best possible launch which is annoying. The Accord destroys these cars off the line and barely loses in a roll race. Just can't justify an investment that large for a car like that. No more 4 cylinder turbos. I want that Stinger 3.3 liter V6 which would never get boring and the car gets off the line unbelievably for just a bit more money.

  • @wbwayne8887

@@XWXW-lk4jf I know you said no more 4 cyl Turbos, but keep in mind in a few months the 2022 base Stinger is getting the 2.5T of the K5 GT. It is rated at 300hp in the Stinger as well. It will also be going up $3K, but the increased performance and fuel efficiency will be worth it alone imo.

@@wbwayne8887 I guess that would be possible but I would always still want that 3.3 liter. With the AWD though it can probably actually put the power down at least. That is what is so maddening about the K5GT and NLINE is they just can't put the power down, especially in cold weather from the sounds of it. Also, if you notice, there are so many unbelievably positive reviews on those cars, basically saying they are the best cars ever made. They talk about how fast they are and how much better than the Accord and the 5 seconds to 60 but if you notice, none actually do an actual timed 0-60 test, they only talk about having done it. I have never seen an actual test where the timer says 5 seconds at 60. Maybe it exists, I just have not seen it. That makes me very suspicious because no one has any criticism of these K5GT and Nline at all. There should be pros and cons talked about more extensively. If Throttlehouse did not do that race video with the Accord and Nline I'd be in one now with tremendous buyers remorse. I think that this video does a good jobs of showing the pros and cons of the Nline. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lqymzZWfYrfYg8o.html

Kias are "disposable." Oh? Kias have gotten better over time. I had a 1997 Sephia and I took it to 110,502 miles by the time I traded it in. (After a break from Kia for a 2006 Chevy Cobalt from 2007 to 2019, I got myself a 2016 Kia Forte.) How did I do it? Routine maintenance, everybody. I kept up with the oil change schedule and had necessary fixes done before they turned into huge headaches. If you take care of your car, no matter what make it is, it will take care of you. The owner's manual is your Bible when it comes to car ownership. And, yes, Kia vehicles have gotten better. It's not 1997 anymore, guys. Kia is kickin' butt! (1/2/2022)

This test really shows why Kia sould not have put on junk all season tires on the GT here. If both were on summer tires, the GT would win in all tests due to the extra torque needing traction. I really wish Kia gave the GT a mechanical LSD and not dumb down the interior. Looks so dark and dreary inside the GT spec. The Accord needs an LSD and not a detuned engine. At $35k I a looking at a deal on a Kia Stinger which is a proper drive

I have no loyalty to either company. Currently own a 9th gen accord, used to own a 2011 optima sx (it truly did suck). I'd love to consider the new accord, but the interior design is not welcoming to a taller driver unless you're sitting on the floor. Properly adjusted seat results in my knee being in the center stack/start button. I haven't driven a k5 gt yet but have driven several nline sonata's. I have to say they've come a long way. Lack of engine history/reliability data is concerning for the kia/hyundai. Probably a good idea to give it a few years before committing to one. The 10 year powertrain warranty is nice, but nicer yet is not having to make any repairs during that period either. Did anyone catch the k5 geting some air in the rear right wheel in the video. That's pretty aggressive cornering. A limited slip diff would def be helpful and shouldn't add too much in terms of cost/weight. Or at least a cost/expensive most would be willing to pay for. Also, those all season tires are trash. Put some michelin pilot super sport or sport a/s 3+'s. Much better traction.

Both are nice cars! Edmunds did a fair review. The K5 GT & Accord SPORT 2.0 are its top picks among mid-sized sedans. I agree that K5 GT could benefit from a LSD and the Accord 2.0 needs a sport tuned suspension. AWD on the K5 GT would weight it down more. I still think the 10 speed automatic of the Accord delivers torque better in the various gears especially on the lower end! K5 GT is subjectively the most attractive mid-sized car for 2021. The Mazda 6 is beginning to show its age. Plain hood, front grill looks much like when the body design was introduced in 2014. Older 6 spd transmission and infotainment system is obsolete. 2021 Camry V6 doesn't deliver the fun that the K5 GT and Accord 2.0 deliver. I don't like the Camry's front facia! It's interesting that the Honda & Toyota might be introducing V6 turbos in 2022. Then AWD will be a must for these proto types.
