Lack of traction off the rip is a big reason. Thats a drawback of FWD cars without strong LSD. But K5 GT is Overall a superior car

Carwow usually has it's focus on higher performance and higher cost vehicles too. I like that Sam tends to focus on more attainable vehicles. To me, it is way more interesting.

KIA's traction control was actually hurting traction at launch. Even with the fierce wheelspin at sport plus with TC off, KIA launched better.

My fiance has the K5 same color with red seats... Its a great riding car , but I love my Stinger GT1!!! Great race...

I think racing cars in "comfort" mode is a bit silly as no one that enjoys street racing will ever use that mode when they need to go faster. All races should be in sport mode for both vehicles, then maybe another one in sport+ if the vehicle has it. Replace the comfort mode races with Trac off/launch control races

Unfortunately, Canada doesn't currently get the GT-Line Stinger with the engine of the K5 GT. And with Covid restrictions it wouldn't be possible to get a Stinger from across the border.

Thought the same about kia. Always a ford guy then leased a Mazda 3. After lease got a 2010 kia forte sx. Car is still going strong and was waiting for it to die to look at a stinger. Still enjoy driving it actually. 140000kms and serpentine belt change only..

Until you start cornering, then the kia looses by leaps and bounds as all it will do is understeer. The kia is serious speed for the money, but its only a one trick pony being limited to fwd only.

My brother just got a 2021 K5 GT line AWD premium with red seats fully loaded. Not a GT but still pretty zippy. At least over here K5 AWDs are pretty hard to find.

There is no other car in it’s segment that is like the K5 GT. BMW is a luxury brand the zf is good but the 8 sp DCT in the K5 is better. The people wanted a Mazda speed with the new 2.5t……….they got a relaxed car with mediocre at best acceleration 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jetta GLI with a simple tune would smoke it and no one does dual clutches like VW. Same with the Arteon R that has the 7 speed dual clutch but that's only sold in Europe for the moment. And while the K5 may eventually catch up to the BMW in a straight line, it's not going to handle nearly as well.

@@nickmotsarsky4382 bottom line it does not have the direct/mechanical shifts like a dual clutch. Just because bmw uses it in the new m3/m4 does not mean it’s better then a good DCT. I’ve seen plenty reviews of them complaining about the zf 8 sp in new m3/m4 just doesn’t give the same feeling as the 7 sp DCT.

@@SimonStrother anything with a tune can smoke anything stock eventually…….put a tune on the K5 n then we’ll see. Many reviews say the 8 sp wet dual clutch is on par with VW/Audi DSG. This is a economy family sedan I hope the bmw would handle better🤦🏻‍♂️.

I don't know about BMW's, but My stinger, I've discovered, if I smack the steering wheel, Giddi up, it doesn't make it go any faster, sadly :-) Haa... Sam, I couldn't resist.. that was awesome to see your enthusiasm... Well Done.. Nice Race.. The K5 is a Great Car and Competition to the BMW, in IMHO, especially since I manage to get a test drive with it, in the same car in this race. It's really well built, fast and cool car !!

I have a 2013 Optima SXL and I have beat cars I never thought I would. I don't know if the new K5 has the same deal but with my engine the engineers designed the ecu to be able to take advantage of higher octane and actually adds 10 to 15hp on premium fuel. It's a high compression boosted GDI engine.

I like how Sam would mention the mileage on each car prior to the race. It's very important information so people can draw their conclusion when looking at the race (i.e if a car only has a few hundred km/miles on it, the engine may not be operating at its peak performance as it's still in the break-in period and the ECU can be limiting power). Also would love to see how a 330i RWD would fare in this race. I suspect ditching the AWD system won't affect the launch much since it's under 300hp. But the 200lb weight saving and less drivetrain loss may make it harder for the K5 GT to reel it or pull as much as a gap in a roll race.

@@Starscream8896 my guy I own a Audi S4 nogaro blue edition (1 of 79) I can afford one(although tbf I bought mine used ofc for a steal so I paid less then a new 330i). But no I'm not interested in the 330i, I don't care for the BMW nickel and diming and lackluster features(unless you option it out the wazoo). I'ma need more from it since it doesn't have the performance for me. Better then the 2 series though, the 2023 refresh seems better with updated interior though BMW went for the stuck on monitor look instead of actually integrating it into the dash like Audi and Hyundai. Can't win everything. But I'm chilling though my car is damn near unique and is a monster w/ FBO + tune.

Kia seems to add more horsepower to their cars for each segment in order to shine all the way around. styling cues and amenities plus performance.

Just bought a 2022 Kia K5 Gt in Wolf Grey. Pick it up on Saturday, can’t wait! I heard with stickier summer tires it breaks 5 seconds in the 0-60.

This Kia k5 on normal mode is a beast after 50 to 60 meters. The BMW on normal mode is quicker but the k5 seems to catch up. On a longer stretch the kia will murder the bmw. Very impressive

What a great video.. As a 330i Xdrive owner, I enjoyed this a lot. I still don't understand Kia's decision not to put AWD in K5 GT though when lower-trim K5 has AWD. Maybe they didn't want to create a Stinger competitor by themselves?

@@ipeppers1 Stinger still would win 1/4 mile even if K5 had awd.. did you see the race with this K5 and My stinger gt ? from a dig, it's a beast..I was like 7-8 car lengths ahead.. so if it had awd, likely would be 5 cars ahead for sure.. better, but still back. Stinger GT Twins kick in at 1300 rpms, and the K5's at 1650 rpm... and less power.. I love this new K5, but Stinger in Canada prices, is worth the extra, for all the other extra features it has over the k5

@@rpmautoreviews9249 Skip Barber Driving School and SCCA racing. I've driven and owned FWD, RWD, and AWD. 6500 miles so far as my daily driver and I tried the launch control once. No need for it because I've got it down. I haven't driven on Michelins in over 20 years because they sucked in the rain. After talking to a few friends, I decided to give the PS4S a try and I freely admit, they're a fantastic tire. I can get on it harder off the line in the wet than I can the P Zeros in the dry.

You should seriously rename this channel to "C'MON!"

It's not surprising that KIA doesn't offer AWD in the K5 GT. It's the same pattern as that found in the "high performance" versions of the Camry and the Altima turbo. Only about 5% of all Camrys are fitted with Toyota's V6 300 HP engine. And other manufacturers find much the same take rate for performance versions of their mainstream "family" sedans. It's simply not profitable to offer AWD in such models. On the other hand, as the driver of the K5 noted in the video, it could be fitted with a limited slip differential that would help significantly in putting 300HP and over 300 ft lbs of torque to the pavement in a FWD vehicle. It's one reason that a GTI with an electronic version of a LSD performs and handles so well despite a deficit in HP and Torque compared to other "hot hatches." Fortunately, in the US the GT-Line Stinger with the same engine as the K5 GT in a RWD platform or RWD-biased AWD and a significantly more upscale interior is available at a modest price premium over a fully loaded K5 GT. Unfortunately, that model is not currently available in Canada.

am loving these k5 videos, and its honestly convincing me to trade in my base trim k5 for the GT, i can only imagine what it would do with a different turbo and a tune

As an owner of of G20 330i I have ran up against the K5 and other similar competitors with different results. Sam I know you mentioned you were on sport mode.. However, did you have the shifter to the left and engaged launch control? I never lost to a K5 turbo utilizing launch control and my car is RWD with the m sport package..🤔

Glad you decided to run these cars today. I still think with launch control it shouldn’t be that close… However, a better competitor would be the G70 2.5t against the 330i . That is more likely cross shop. I’ve owned 7 Bmw’s to this point.😉 Thx again for appeasing us BMW fans!

KIA is doing fine in the segment it's in. I don't see it investing the money it needs to compete for a tiny share of the executive class market when it's just as profitable where it is.

You get what you pay for? 🤔 Or maybe not in this case. Way to go Kia. Did you use launch control on the K5? Very impressed with the 2.5T and that 8spd dct. That 330i will destroy the K5 on a winding road or track though. The K5 and Sonata N-Line would benefit greatly from an LSD. Can't wait to see the sooner than later race involving the just introduced Elantra N. Very impressive on paper so far.

If you've still got the CT4 with the 2.7L, I'd sure like to see that go against the K5 GT. I assume the CT4 would win, due to sheer power, but, the K5 isn't slow by any means.

Pretty interesting indeed. A 4wd on the Kia would have made it impossible for the BMW to beat in any mode. Kia/Hyundai have been doing some serious work behind the scenes to make their vehicles as good as any when it comes to comfort and performance. In a few years from now theirs is what everyone else will have to beat! I love it :)

From a roll the K5 GT will walk the 330x drive . But from a dig will be interesting cause of the xdrive

@@nallis01 some of the races don’t make sense, but they’re just races to see how much of a gap they have between each other. This is why he doesn’t post times either. It’s more real world entertainment. You can easily look up their 0-60 or their 1/4 mile times but what’s the fun in that? I think a lot of ppl who enjoy this channel is because they feature rather obtainable cars in which they might have or planning to get and they’re just curious. If I stopped next to a stinger at a red light what would happen? Relatable stuff sir. You understand now ? You’ll definitely see the race you mentioned as well.

@@nallis01 With BMW sandbagging their numbers, the Q50 Silver Sport surely is comparable with the 330i. The 340i outclasses Silver Sport, and matches the Red Sport. However, I don't think the 340i (320hp) exists anymore as they're all now M340i (with the engine update), at least in the U.S. market. I'm not 100% but I think the same applies to the global market.

My prayers have been answered finally the 330.

It looks like the k5 GT is actually lighter based on the stats in the beginning of the video. Either way these new 3 series are too heavy and actually has less hp than the older f30s with the N20 motors stock for stock on a dyno. Would love to see you do last Gen vs new Gen versions of these videos, for example f30 vs g20. No one seems to do those type of videos.
